The SaaS platform is live and functional, the front-end works well with the back-end (which has been developed and maintained in-house).

Softcircles delivered key milestones on time and always gave very timely responses, especially when we encountered a challenging deadline. Qamar and his team tried their best to help us achieve it.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

As the CTO of two hotels in Oman, I am responsible for all technological improvements brought in to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations. Al-Maha International Hotel in Ghubra caters to business and leisure travelers and is near the Embassies, Ministries, Shopping Hyper Malls, Beach Clubs, and within 10 minutes from the Central Business District of Muscat. Boulevard Oman was supposed to open in May 2021. Due to pandemic restrictions, the opening got delayed. The hotel attends to the needs of vacationers and students from nearby universities.

For what projects/services did your company hire SoftCircles, and what were your goals?

Managing for many years has taught me the value of having an automated solution for capturing and managing hotel bookings including gym and banquet halls through the website. With Al-Maha International, we have struggled for several years with booking capture and management from the website. We manually had to ensure that no email booking was left out and that we don’t under- or overbook. Of course, this meant we invested many service hours managing bookings that may or may not convert into revenue.

Eventually, the owner had to maintain a staff to keep the process up to date. This time around, I proposed we do things differently by setting up automated email reports that keeps the owner updated on the bookings every week. Having the ability to promote business offers without relying on anyone but an IT assistant was another consideration in us deciding to make a change.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

They had previous work done in Oman. One of my friends who got his website and Inventory Management System built from them recommended me to them.

SoftCircles LLC had two initial meetings with me before we agreed to work together. During my first meeting, I was surprised how they were asking me all sorts of questions about my business model and target audience that were seemingly irrelevant to the website. Next meeting, their team talked about the website layout, positioning of services, and the offers within the website design. They showed me how my admin portal would look like; and the kind of reporting and promotion functionality I could expect.

All of this was within my expectation, so I approved. Their advice to build an online payment module into the website to only get visitors converting to leads was game-changing. The online visitors would register their card at the booking stage, but the hotel will charge at the check-out stage. We agreed to add the functionality to charge at the booking stage, also. They asked me to showcase three of my paid services Rooms, Gym, and Banquet separately to maximize engagement. They said they could drive better engagement from an SEO standpoint. I liked all their out of box ideas very much and gave my go-ahead.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Currently, the project is complete and live. They are currently working on our page rankings and social media marketing etc.

SoftCircles team brought a level of communication to the table I had not received from my other partners. I always received their reports on time; they communicated with me during our business hours and according to our time zone. Seeing as they base out of NY, USA, it must have been hard for them. They were always open about what was delivered during the week and what was left out with reasons.

They never tried to hide anything from me. They asked for six months to build the complete solution but amazingly delivered a fully functional solution in around 5 months, even with occasional delays on minor issues from our side and their side, as well.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Our first meeting surprised me because their approach was unconventional, and they were asking a lot of questions. It appeared to me then as if they didn’t know enough about the hospitality business and were new in the market although, they were claiming to be in the industry for the last 12 years. It was in the second meeting that I realized why they were asking those questions.

They used the knowledge I gave them and came back with some new-age ideas that were very useful. It was nice to see them go that extra mile for me, and I was happy to oblige them with the contract.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They are nice people; I have come to like them. They did their job professionally, and I’m happy that I hired them.

Not the most tech guy myself therefore hard to answer this in detail, that is why I hired SoftCircles :). They built a Java based app which had the capability to transfer data among different mobile operating systems e.g. Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
