LO CNITI is a leading Russian developer and supplier of solutions for building digital production. The company is engaged in integrated supply and implementation of CAD/CAM systems, development of post processors and virtual machines, training users to work with engineering software. LO CNITI is the official distributor of ESPRIT, Tehtran, CIMCO, CheckbitB4 and Machining Cloud in Russia.

Fast data exchange between CAD and CAM systems is an important condition for effective collaboration between a design engineer and an engineering technologist. Integration with key 3D modeling systems is vital for the competitiveness of CAM.

ESPRIT has already been integrated with Solidworks and AutoCAD, which cover most of the world's users. But in Russia KOMPAS-3D is widespread. The total number of its users reaches 12,000 enterprises. To increase sales in the Russian market, it was important to integrate ESPRIT with KOMPAS-3D. And so we got this integration module made by Rubius.

Integration with KOMPAS-3D would expand the ESPRIT sales market by 12,000 user enterprises. For them, ESPRIT would become the most successful solution for digitizing of manufacturing.

Rubius have already had a successful experience in developing plug-ins for KOMPAS-3D and the KOMPAS-3D developers themselves recommended contacting Rubius. The team took part in the development of the C3D geometric modeling kernel, which is used in KOMPAS-3D. We were also impressed by the team's attitude to work and the comfortable price.

The work on the module was performed in short iterations. The first version of the module was created in just a month. Then the program was evolved, focusing on user feedback.

As a result, we implemented the import of 3D models with a design tree into ESPRIT, support for all file formats, work with assemblies and executions, recalculation of models within the tolerance field. And in KOMPAS-3D, it became possible to start the calculation of the trajectories of part processing (G-code generation).

After the release of the ESPRIT FX, we have increased the volume of CAM system implementations. The Kompas 3D + ESPRIT solution has become one of the most convenient and profitable ways to digitize manufacturing at machine-building enterprises.

Thanks to constant modifications of the module by Rubius, ESPRIT FX provides the best level of integration with KOMPAS-3D among CAM systems. Today it is used by design engineers and engineering technologists from all over Russia and the CIS countries.

Our website is one of the key patient touchpoints. Patients can use it to learn about the doctors' schedule, departments’ addresses and their test results, or make an appointment with a doctor.

However, its design is obsolete. Having worked out a modernization plan, we decided to start with the booking interface.So we reached out to Rubius to develop a prototype of the booking section and a few other pages.

Doctor booking is a popular feature among our clients. It affects the clinic’s load and its revenue.

At the second stage, the team prepared two cases for us: booking an appointment with one doctor and several.

Finally, they prepared a detailed technical task. As a result, we received prototypes that we are now using to design our website.

I am one of the engineers at Elvis-Neotech which specializes in developing IT security solutions. We develop video surveillance systems based on computer vision, solutions based on radar, etc.

Our video analytics system has a classic set of possibilities: face and license plate recognition, fire and crowds detection, and counting the number of abandoned objects. Sometimes we receive requests from customers for unusual video analytics functions.

In this case, we give them to partners who practise in the field of computer vision. When a large Russian bank which wanted to improve the security level of its ATMs approached us, we handed this task over to Rubius.

It was necessary to develop a neural network to identify suspicious actions with ATMs from video. The purpose of the development was to reduce the events of fraud and prevent them.

Rubius has its own video analytics product - Visius - and strong development experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

They worked on Agile. They collected a dataset; for this they used records of hacking ATMs from open sources and from the bank's archives. After preparing the model, they had performed a test and began approbation in several of the most problematic locations: ATMs at bus stops in separate kiosks, in deprived areas without people.

The system worked this way: the neural network detected suspicious actions (objects similar to crowbars and other weapons, a face hidden behind a mask, etc.) and sent a notification to the dispatcher. The dispatcher can make the decision to call the security or the rapid intervention team.

The team consisted of 3 people: 1 project manager and 2 data scientists.

Based on the results of approbation, we got 80% accuracy of the model.

Rubius has its own project office, so the work was well organized and planned. Our manager gathered the right people in one room, answered any questions, regularly prepared interim reports for us. So there was no need for additional control.

Their adherence to the project's purpose was impressive. The task was set; while solving, employees Rubius openly pointed out errors in our code which we had previously missed; following the Scrum methodology allowed us to combine the processes of companies.

Becker Mining Systems RUS is the official distributor of Becker Mining Systems AG (Germany) products in Russia. The company provides solutions for the automation of coal mining and transportation, power management, radio communications and personnel location.

BMS RUS clients are mining industry enterprises. For them, the safety of people and technology is critical. We decided to create a system that would allow real-time tracking of the location of employees and equipment in the mine, control the entrance to hazardous areas and promptly notify personnel in the event of an emergency.

BMS RUS specialists have invented hardware and precise terrain positioning algorithms that solve this problem. To complete the system, we needed a reliable software development partner.

To select a contractor, we examined a pool of software developers with the required competencies. Rubius was not on the initial list of candidates, we turned to another organization. But our main applicant, having studied the problem, advised us to contact Rubius, a company with strong expertise in the field of automation and positioning systems.

Rubius helped turn our idea into a finished product. Development took a year and took place in 4 stages. At the first stage, Rubius analyst drew up a detailed technical task and technical project with a well-thought-out solution architecture, design prototypes and an implementation plan. Based on them, the team developed MVP programs with the ability to visualize the location of people and equipment on the mine map. 

At the second stage, a working prototype was made and put into trial operation at a real mine. At this time, Rubius specialists were in touch 24 * 7 in order to promptly resolve emerging issues. Since the mine was located in a different time zone, the programmers started working early in the morning in order to eliminate all problems by 8.00 Moscow time. 

Feedback from users after trial operation at the second stage formed the basis for the third stage. 

At the fourth stage, Rubius specialists finalized the program to the state of a finished product, which we can safely implement at our customers' sites. 

Recently, we launched the fifth stage - at our request, Rubius specialists expand the capabilities of the software by integrating with other systems.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our collaboration with Rubius has resulted in a unique mine positioning and safety monitoring system. It helps to track the location of people and equipment, check the perimeter and the entrance to hazardous areas, promptly notify about accidents and emergencies and conduct a retrospective of any events.

It can also be used to monitor technological indicators in different sections of the mine, monitor the execution of tasks and keep track of the working time of employees. The solution is based on a scripting engine for collecting, processing and visualizing data, which allows BMS RUS as a vendor to quickly customize the software for the user.

Already today, our positioning system has been implemented and is successfully operating at two Russian mines.

During the implementation of the project, Rubius proved to be a competent and conscientious contractor. At each stage, the team prescribed a front of tasks. We worked with weekly sprints, after each one called on Skype and discussed the results. We used the usual Google Doc or email to exchange analytics and documents. The program was designed in Figma.

On the part of Rubius, all processes were coordinated by a dedicated project manager, on the part of BMS RUS, we also created a working group that oversaw the process of creating the product.

I am the CCO, of the Mednord-Technic company. Our company is engaged in the production of medical equipment for the assessment of the blood coagulation system – piezoelectric thromboelastographs.

Our equipment allows us to conduct studies of the state of the hemostasis system using native blood in the 'point-of-care' mode.

Due to the possibility of conducting operational monitoring of disorders of the blood coagulation system at the patient's bedside, the thromboelastogaphs produced by our company are widely used in clinical diagnostic and express laboratories, intensive care units and operating rooms.

When conducting a study on a thromboelastography, on a PC a graph of the analysis of the blood coagulation system is plotted in real time with control numerical indicators in relative units. Deciphering of them requires time and high qualifications from doctors.

How did you select Rubius and what were the deciding factors?

We've known this company for a long time. Rubius has extensive expertise in machine learning and big data, and especially in using these technologies in healthcare.

A large percentage of the people employed by the company's machine learning team hold postgraduate degrees, and they have developed an impressive portfolio of solid AI solutions.

We have heard a great deal about their solutions for forecasting major cardiovascular events and diagnosing internal organ diseases, so when we had to choose a contractor, Rubious was our first choice from the start.

We supplied Rubius experts with 1,300 results of real tests conducted using a thromboelastography analyzer that we manufacture. Every medical record had 20 blood clotting indicators and a corresponding diagnosis.

The Rubius team processed these data, developed a machine learning algorithm to classify blood clotting disorders and then created a medical decision support system based on it.

The machine learning system was implemented in Python, and made use of such libraries as Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-learn and Keras in conjunction with TensorFlow.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The decision support system allows doctors to analyze the state of the blood clotting indicators measured by the thromboelastography analyzer, makes a diagnosis of the blood clotting disorder the patient is suffering from and generates a description of the overall hemostatic potential that the doctor can understand.

The system takes just a few seconds to produce a result and delivers an accuracy of 98.4%. The system is currently being integrated into the software running the new generation Mednord thromboelastography analyzer. In the future it is going to allow doctors to make error-free diagnoses right at the patient's bed and prescribe the correct treatment.

We worked with Rubius in weekly sprints, with the process being supervised by a dedicated project manager. Every week we had face-to-face meetings during which he presented brief progress reports to us.

The project manager was also always willing to answer not only our questions about the process but also questions about various technical details such as which tools, frameworks and machine learning algorithms were selected, what kind of architecture the final solution was going to have, how the finished system was going to interface with the software of the thromboelastography analyzer and so on and so forth.

This kind of well-oiled communication allowed us to get a high quality product within a very short period of just 2 months.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What we especially liked about Rubious was the transparency and professionalism of their team.

Even though during the work on the product we on several occasions came up with new ideas that required for what was by then a practically finished product to be further refined and expanded, we were never told that the extra work needed was outside the scope of the agreed-upon specification.

We were also very much impressed by the team's eagerness to drill down to the core of the problem: Rubius technicians immersed themselves into blood clotting research, learning everything they could about this rather specialized domain, which allowed them to deliver a top-quality product in the end.

WOSAD is an acronym for web oriented structural design. We were developing web-based application software that was aimed to help structural designers (construction industry) in their daily routine.

It was a start-up established in 2011-12 in New York, USA. Company was shut down in 2015-16 years. I was one of the co-founders, my responsibility was software architecture and application development.

We hired Rubius to provide technical support while we were developing our MVP. They assigned engineers who were helping us to make architectural decisions, gave us advises in from of prototypes or code sketches.

Additionally, some of the application modules and their parts were written by Rubius engineers.

Also, Rubius offered us to use their infrastructure (including access to the cloud based systems, particularly Microsoft Azure) and dev-ops support.

How did you select Rubius and what were the deciding factors?

I knew one of the Rubius' co-founder, we had common experience working with Autodesk Development Network, and for me it was obvious that Rubius have all the professionals who could help us with our plans.

We also had several contractors at this moment, but Rubius eventually filled all the gaps and we have begun to work with Rubius only.

1. We hired Rubius when we already selected technologies, so the first task was to check our choices and determine if architectural decisions were appropriate. Also, this work helped us to prepare documents that were used to find investors. Rubius allocated few developers and software architect for that work.
2. The second main task was to move server side (backend) to cloud system, originally it was done in old fashion manner, i.e. on premise. On this stage we developed new database schema and rewrote WCF service that was used as a main communication channel (frontend-backend). The frontend was written using Microsoft Silverlight, which required special attention too. Rubius provided us specialists who consulted us in questions related to XAML (animations, styles, templates, user controls, etc.) Microsoft Azure was selected as cloud platform, where we resided our web site and hosted application. MS SQL was used as a database engine. NHibernate was an ORM that helped to talk to database and develop persistent layer. Rubius allocated software architect for that work, and the developers, who helped to write persistent layer. Dev-ops engineers helped to spin web app, Azure VMs and SQL instance... All was written using c# language.
3. There were a lot of micro tasks which will be hard to explain, the whole work lasted 12-15 months, during this period WOSAD matured a lot and become real MVP product.
4. The one of the last tasks was to rewrite WOSAD web site. Rubius provided designer and Microsoft MVC professional who helped to write MS ASP.NET MVC web site.

The general outcome is we got professional services and were covered 100% in all our daily needs, the cooperation with Rubius converted our product from homemade app to professional Minimum Viable Product.

We used SVN as a source control service and JIRA for task management, when we started to work with Rubius we switched to TFS.

Nobody is innocent, of course we had some expectation-reality problems and some 'time-expansion' issues, but I mean it is an IT, you never know... I cannot remember something we could not figure out.

DKC online catalog contains 35 000 items. Most of them are sophisticated equipment that needs to be adapted to enterprise needs. To reduce the amount of manual work, we publish system configurators on our website.

Configurators allow our clients design custom systems themselves while for us they facilitate cost estimation. We reached out to Rubius to update and improve one of these configurators.

Rubius developed a desktop application for switchgear cabinet configuration. The solution consists of two modules: one for the clients, another for DKC specialists. With the built-in graphic editor, users can create a custom system choosing from existing blocks and available parts, such as boards, contacts, interfaces, indicators.

The configurator automatically selects a compatible enclosure for the equipment and generates system specification documents. Our engineers can update the catalogs and database via a web panel, send specifications to the warehouse and estimate the project price.

The configurator is already used by our customers. It allowed us to reduce costs and time per client. Managers now can process more leads over the same time, while design, which didn't always result in sales, no longer takes up their working hours.

Our company is one of the largest cadastral agencies in Russia. We provide a range of services, such as registration of land, apartment buildings and municipal facilities, architectural replanning as well as development of technical passports and other documentation. I am one of the co-founders of the agency.

We keep up with the development of IT in cadastral registration, so when 3D cadastre became the global trend, we started offering 3D cadastre certificates to our customers.

But we soon discovered a problem: it took an engineer up to 14 days to prepare a 3D certificate, which made the end-user price too expensive. High price scared away the customers and prevented us from increasing sales. To automate the process, we partnered with Rubius.

Rubius developed an AutoCAD-based system that automatically creates 3D cadastral documentation for buildings and structures. Our engineers were already using AutoCAD, so there was no need to implement new software and train employees.

The system automatically checks window openings and doorways for standard compliance, and corrects geometry errors. With this system, even basement and attic rooms can be registered.

All object information is verified against construction directories and standards. Then, a cadastral certificate is automatically generated based on the existing template.

We worked closely with Rubius team right from the start of the project. First, they prepared a detailed roadmap. Then, we had meetups every two weeks where we discussed the progress of work and further steps.

Rubius actively responded to our requests and flexibly adjusted the work so the result met our expectations. The system was well tested before implementation, so we there were no bug-related issues.

We've long wanted to incorporate augmented reality into our marketing activities. Once we came up with the idea for an application, we started looking for a development team with AR experience. We were looking for an end-to-end development: backend, mobile app and a web administration panel.

We wanted to receive an MVP to test AR for our business. An application for iOS and Android that would help a sales manager to quickly arrange furniture in a room and demonstrate the result to a customer. This would remove some deal stages and shorten the sales cycle.

They had to develop the concept, write a technical assignment and create the software from scratch. At first, Rubius analysts gathered all our expectations and ideas, prepared a working user story and helped specify the features of the future application.

There were lots of good suggestions that turned the intiial idea into a great prototype. After that, the team got down to development. We actively cooperated throughout the project: had weekly calls, reviewed work progress and tested the prototype.

However, converting CAD files to 3D printable STL files, and optimizing the geometry (making them watertight, zero thickness walls, etc) took too much time which prevented them from using 3D printers. I was the CEO.

For what projects/services did your company hire Rubius, and what were your goals?

Preparing BIM models for 3D printing turned out to be too time-consuming. Users had to manually solve the following problems:

• Scaling and positioning of the model to fit the printer configuration
• Removal of zero area and holes zero thickness walls
• Correction of normals, degenerated geometry, and non-manifold components
• Exporting file into STL.

Thus, we had to make the use of our 3D-printer less time-consuming and more simple for designers and architects. We realized that preparation of models for printing had to be automated.

Rubius' task was to develop several CAD plug-ins for automated data preparation and export of CAD-files directly to the printer. With the use of the plugins we intended to reduce time-to-market and improve usability of our 3D printer.

How did you select Rubius and what were the deciding factors?

We met Rubius team at a big business accelerator in Finland. They shared their expertise and turned out to be a perfect contractor. We were looking for a partner with good experience in CAD development and 3D printer software.

Therefore, Rubius understanding of additive manufacturing, expertise with geometry kernel development, and CAD integrations played a key role in our decision.

We received great feedback from the customers after introducing automated data preparation and export by Rubius.

Rubius team is very client-oriented and takes a deep dive into the customer's business goal and subject domains. They also provided excellent project management so we didn't have to invest our time and resources into it.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They have profound expertise in CAD development and 3D printing.

I was very reluctant to collaborate with Russian/Eastern European development firms at the beginning. But after meeting Rubius founders, and seeing how professional and thorough they are, I will definitely work with them again.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not really, it was a great experience working with them and I will definitely do it again.
