What challenge were you trying to address with Riotters?

We were trying to develop a SaaS product and needed an MVP to help us launch, so we needed someone to help us with the design.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Riotters provides design services for us. First, our founders sent them some travel websites and apps to help them come up with designs. The team then created different wireframes for us to choose from. They’ve also produced various design elements that we could combine to build more user flows and features.

Throughout the project, they’ve used Sketch to create the designs and Marvel to hand off the wireframes, which our in-house development team implements. The Riotters team continues to help us add more functionality to the app.

We work with 2–7 teammates, including a project manager. The number of people working on the project depends on where we are in the process.

I wasn’t there when the partnership started, but I believe our founders found them through Dribbble, a site that showcased various designers.

The project started in September 2020 and is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re still in the early stages, so we don’t have any metrics yet, but it’s been a successful project. The MVP has caught the attention of several stakeholders and prospects. They find that our solution is better than others in the marketplace, and they seem happy with it.

How did Riotters perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is great. We try to plan the timeline as best as possible, and they’ve worked overtime to help us meet specific deadlines. Riotters has also been willing to scale up the design team if we need more resources. We use Jira to manage the project and Slack to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with the amount of exploration the Riotters team does when it comes to greenfield projects. They put a lot of care into the process and provide well-thought-out ideas. Overall, the partnership has been going pretty well, which is why we’ve continued working with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could better understand how certain design elements will affect other parts of the app.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Provide very clear documentation for them to follow. Additionally, help Riotters understand the reasoning behind certain features and how your industry makes use of them. Having that base knowledge will help them solve your problems better.

What challenge were you trying to address with Riotters?

We needed help to develop the interface of our app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I’ve been working with Riotters’ team on our platform’s initial UI/UX design work — we needed a redesign of our interface, so we’re transitioning from the first version of our app to the second one. They started by supporting our in-house designer with out-of-the-box approaches and pushing his ideas from a third-party perspective to enhance the platform’s look and feel. Then they continued into building the new features we wanted to include. We’re also doing a rebrand that we’re incorporating into the application to expand its functionality.

What is the team composition?

We’re working with 3–4 people from their team; we have a designer who is also acting as a project manager, another couple of designers, and an illustrator.

How did you come to work with Riotters?

We found them online, and we liked their portfolio. We chose them because they seemed to have great UI designers pushing the edge of their work with their interface. We were looking for someone who could bring that to my team and drive our internal designers to think a little bit differently from what they’re used to.

We’ve spent less than $10,000 with them so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in March 2020, and the engagement is ongoing; we’re now trying to involve them in more projects with our business.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’re a great solution to figure out the visual aspect of our app and make it stand out. We now moved our tens of thousands of workers to the new app version Riotters redesigned for us, and we’ve grown by 130% since then.

How did Riotters perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management has been great, and we haven’t had any issues with translation. At first, I was nervous about them being overseas. Still, they’re turning out to be phenomenal in terms of design quality, and they’ve been an affordable way to boost up our team and bring different thinking to our processes, which has been helpful for us. In terms of communication, we use a Slack channel, which has been our effective way to talk to each other, and we’ve also done Zoom calls.

They’re professional and don’t mind working late on their day to overlap with the beginning of our day due to the time zone difference.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their design style is different from what I see in the US; they have a tremendous aesthetic and fantastic UI design. Riotters bring a unique approach to their work and try new things to make it a strong product without breaking the bank.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We switched around on designers for a while, which we don’t mind, but it’s also great to work with the same team throughout the project and build a strong relationship — consistency would be helpful.

What was the scope of their involvement?

To kickstart the project, I gave Riotters rough ideas of what I wanted and then brainstormed with Dawid (Owner) to come up with designs, which we also tweaked. For the software UI/UX design, Riotters helped us around our logo and color schemes by creating wireframes. Then, they worked on the frontend of our website.

At present, we still send them work every now and then.

We work with Dawid, who helps us with strategies. Then, a designer helps us with the UI/UX design of the software. Two other people help us with website design.

I found Riotters on Dribble, a platform where people could share their design work. I hired them because they had a portfolio that matched the style I wanted. On top of that, it looked like they’d done some apps that seemed relevant to our platform.

Our website traffic has increased by 50% since launching its redesigned version, though that’s also partially attributed to the software itself. We’ve also been getting a 75% increase in installs since launching the software’s new version. 

How did Riotters perform from a project management standpoint?

Riotters’ project management was good. I’ve been pretty hands-off with them; they’re self-starters, so I don’t have to handhold them a lot. To communicate, we use emails and Slack.

Their design expertise is the best part of working with them.

They should check in more with me before finishing designs and send more progress updates while designing.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of The Build, and we're the developers of a project management tool for residential contractors. It integrates the execution of ordering building materials and the management of projects.

What challenge were you trying to address with Riotters?

We needed someone to help us with the UI/UX design of our mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The bulk of the work we have with Riotters is basically the design and wireframe of the overall look and feel of the mobile app. They helped me develop some critical features in terms of providing me with feedback and overall direction.

One of the app’s core features is the ability to link distributors with contractors. This is initiated by having contractors create a materials list — which is a process that’s currently done via email. After which we’ll automate it so that the contractor can have a database with all the previous materials they requested for a project.

These materials are then bid on or quoted by local distributors, depending on the contractor’s angle. What separates us from other project management software is that all of our gathered data are then brought into the tool, where users can take advantage of other features such as crew management, budgeting, data management, and calendar management.

Apart from that, they also created an animated promotional video for us, to basically showcase the app’s features.

We’ve currently re-engaged with them to pivot our product's MVP in terms of strategy and approach — they’re now helping us build a web version of the app for our contractor. They’re working on taking the project management features to the next level, so that we can have a paid version of the app. This app will be more comprehensive with newly added features such as invoicing and communication.

We mainly work with the owner, but there are probably 3–4 people involved in the project.

I was searching for companies that were focused on global subcontracting when I found Riotters — I interviewed and hired them then.

My engagement with them started in February 2018, and it’s been ongoing since then.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We launched the free version of the app back in July, and we’ve received positive feedback about the look and feel of it. It’s simplistic but sleek, and we’ve heard good things about the overall aesthetic and flow of it.

How did Riotters perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been very good from a project management standpoint. They basically underpromise and overdeliver — they would never commit to something they can’t do.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed by their listening skills and how they execute what we discuss — they stay on point, on budget, and actively listen to our requests.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would say to have a more junior person involved in the project to basically continue the management of the relationship. Having someone handle the day-to-day and to engage with would be great at the moment. However, I can’t complain too much because I love the fact that I always have the owner of the company’s ear.

The best advice I could give is to get to know what you want and narrow down your focus, so you can figure out what you need to accomplish.

I’m the founder and CEO of a mobile app for musicians. The platform allows users to play songs and songwriters to interact with their audience.

We needed help with the general interface design for our app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Riotters helps us with the UI/UX design in terms of wireframing, color schemes, and everything in that regard for our Android and iOS app. The deliverables also include a clickable prototype for user testing and high-fidelity designs that we can hand off to our app developer. 

At the beginning of the project, we made a discovery and whiteboard for the development. The following month and a half after that, we made a lo-fi version of the interface, which is where they designed the app and got the aesthetic aspects done, like our logo and brand guidelines. In addition to those efforts, they also created a dashboard for our marketing website on WordPress.

Currently, they’re working on a new feature for our platform.

We’ve been working with 6–7 people, including the logo designer, the website developer, the app developer, and so on.

As of today, we have over 15,000 downloads and 12,000 different artists with $500,000 in transactions on the platform. People love our app; it’s easy to use, and they’re making money with it, so we’ve had positive feedback.

Communication has been great; we use Slack to talk to each other in a responsive approach. They also meet deadlines in teme, which is top-notch.

They understand and get the full scope of the project, which is essential. They know our needs and combine that with their incredible eye for design.

Riotters took our existing brand and created unique 3D assets just for name.com. The team created assets that were in brand and told an abstract story. The deliverables included: one primary 3D asset and a library of supporting 3D graphics. Riotters handled the entire design process once we showed them our current brand and met a few times to discuss our goals.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

While we had a tight deadline, it just meant that we needed product meetings. The focused and targeted meetings, combined with our existing working relationship, allowed for fluid conversations, enabling quick planning and decision-making. Additionally, Riotters’ team effort to understand the industry helped them ask pertinent questions, further streamlining the process.

The quality of work delivered by Riotters was exceptional. Their designs were intuitive and easily understood by both users and engineers. This clarity in design, coupled with their quality of execution, directly led to a high-quality product and saved us significant time in explaining it. A notable aspect was the team’s ability to self-manage and build modules directly from the wireframes Riotters provided. The designs themselves were also described as elegant, modern, and crisp.

How did Riotters perform from a project management standpoint?

Riotters demonstrated excellent project management, particularly through their lead UI/UX individual, who was described as exceptional. They were flexible and accommodating to changes that arose during delivery. Crucially, they delivered on time and on budget. We communicated via Slack and Google Hangouts.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What I found most impressive and unique about working with Riotters was their profound investment in the project; they treated it as if it were their own, making my success their success. This level of commitment, combined with their top-notch, detail-oriented team, provided me with the flexibility to focus on the broader strategic aspects of the project. I had complete trust in their ability to manage their part without fear of failure or miscommunication.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While the project with Riotters was largely successful, the onboarding and invoicing process presented some challenges. These issues weren’t necessarily Riotters’ fault but rather stemmed from the client’s unfamiliarity with working with an international design shop and their stricter accounting protocols, which required more handholding. Specifically, the invoicing process was bumpy because, after the initial payment, no further invoices were sent until May. It would have been beneficial for Riotters to implement monthly or milestone-based invoicing, though this delay may have been due to changes that emerged during the discovery phase.
