We discovered Purrweb through Dribbble. They have some beautiful projects out there and they made lots of efforts on the initial stage to prepare the estimations for us, and answer our questions. So we thought that we should give it a shot.

The main objective of our request was to create a design for an application. So a few days after a call we were given a time estimation document. Our project was divided into weekly sprints, which we followed throughout the whole work time. By the end of the project we also started the branding design in parallel.

I was also impressed by the fact that the Purrweb team not only gives you a quick response but they also provide you with more additional details on how to improve the current state of the app, even further, they bring you suggestions for future features and how it could be implemented.

We don’t really have any major complaints about the work process. Everything was delivered on time and for an adequate price.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Guys created a color branding for us, completely created an interface design with all states, prepared a cool UI kit for it, which is very easy for our developer to work with, it speeds up his work. Also, the guys made custom illustrations and animations for the interface that enriched the user experience, and were very flexible in transferring all the materials, since we asked to make different file formats for our needs.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We used Messenger for daily chats, Zoom for video calls with a shared screen during the demo. Everything was delivered on time and without any problems, and the working process was pretty flexible.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What I really like in Purrweb team? They are young, smart, open-minded guys, who pay great attention to customer focus and very receptive and open to feedback. I am always glad to get in touch with the team, to discuss some working moments, etc.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Based on my experience with Purrweb, I didn’t see anything in their work which needs improvement. The impressions are only positive :)

We searched online and found their work on Dribbble and Instagram to be very compelling. Their posts on IG showed that they had a deep understanding of modern UX/UI requirements.

We had a tight 3 week deadline, and were very happy that Purrweb was able to meet it (with time to spare!). The short time frame did not mean that quality was lower - they gave us great results as well.

We were in constant communication over Slack with the project manager who gave us quick updates so that we could rapidly work together to create the solution that we wanted. Their requirement gathering phase was unique and very useful in helping us reach our goals.

I am the CEO of an organization that acts as an online marketplace for content creators.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Purrweb?

I needed someone to build my MVP.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Purrweb created a web-based platform and a mobile app for iOS and Android for our startup. Our idea was to create an online marketplace for creators, so we wanted a platform where users can upload and display their work on their profile, which serves as their portfolio. These creations are then listed for distribution houses and channels to purchase, fund, or license.

Once they put together a team for us, we started by talking about the ideas we had for the platform. Afterward, we started working on the platform’s design, functions, and features. We collaborated on putting all of that together to form the wireframe. The team also connected it to the other third-party apps that we needed, like AWS, Stripe, Keap (formerly Infusionsoft), and more. These apps are integrated into our platform via the APIs that they built. 

We had a change of plans midway through due to COVID-19 — we wanted to make it easier for users to manage their profiles themselves, rather than having a touchpoint with our team. In response to this, the team added more functionalities and capabilities to the platform to make it more self-serviceable. We are currently in beta, with our in-house team working to refine it further.

What is the team composition?

We worked mainly with 2–3 people, but when we needed it, they assigned more people to jump in and work with us depending on what their role is. The most we had in the team was about 5–6 people. 

How did you come to work with Purrweb?

We started the company in September of 2019, and during our due diligence with our lead investor, we scoped out eight potential outsourced development teams. We considered them because they were recommended by a few colleagues who had previously worked with them to build their initial platforms. We went through a process of elimination, and Purrweb won out because of their flexibility and ability to work with us. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $50,000–$60,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The project was ongoing from February–December 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our team and investors were happy with the product. Our beta testers were also satisfied with it; however, they did request a different theme — the only thing we had to change was the color, but other than that, the functions and features are the same. We just hired UI designed to come in and change the colors. It was a very minor change, so they still did a great job. 

How did Purrweb perform from a project management standpoint?

They did their work with extreme precision by building out a sprint formula, so we had checkboxes to follow over a specified timeline. They moved as fast as we wanted them to move. They followed the schedule within the sprints, which allowed us to tick every box on all the functions, features, and the look and feel we wanted for the platform. They performed exactly how they promised us they would — the timeline was carefully scheduled, and they were very client-facing. Everything that we asked of them, they did well.

The only people that slowed it down were us — we switched gears a couple of times over last summer due to COVID-19, but they were able to adapt with us. We basically changed the whole plan because of COVID-19. They adjusted with us, and we kept moving forward together, which we appreciated. 

In terms of communication, we had Zoom calls thrice a week to go over our progress. They’re located in Russia, and we work in New York; we had these calls at 8:30 a.m. EST, which was evening on their side. Despite the time difference, they remained very accomodating. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were extremely flexible and switched gears with us as we moved — we’re a startup, so we make changes and adapt all the time. Whenever that happened, they adapted with us seamlessly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They never fell short on anything, but sometimes we had trouble understanding each other. It’s not the team’s fault — it's just that American English uses many slang words that they weren’t familiar with because English wasn’t their first language. We actually joked about it, and after a month, we got to know each other’s quirks. If there were any confusion, we would simply ask them to restate what they said.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Stay on top of them, which is what you have to do every time you outsource workers. Ensure that the team understand the project’s scope and goals, and watch over their progress. It’s essential to treat it as a collaboration and to be as communicative as possible. In the beginning, we didn't do that, and it was our fault, but we regrouped quickly — we collaborated much better once we understood the communication gaps that we had.

Purrweb have conducted the competitors research to figure out the best practices for our platform realisation, they have analysed the existing services we use to be able seamlessly integrate them to the platform.

After the discovery phase Purrweb came up with the Project Architecture, created the UI/UX design and started the development.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The development is not finished yet (we have a big roadmap), however the tool is live and it already helped our Security and Analytical departments to work with personnel profiles 20 times faster!

At the early stages Purrweb team had been providing me with the daily reports of the work planned and done. That was really helpfull in the beginning to keep the work transparent, but later I no longer needed such a detailed reports and we switched to the once-a-week reports.

We use email for reports, Slack and telegram for communication and Jira for Project Management. I have access to all these tools so it’s really convenient to stay updated.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I admire the flexibility of the Purrweb team. In some cases we needed to push back the arrangements a bit and guys had kindly accommodated all our requests delivering even more than they’d committed to.

I also love the transparency of the working process - I’m always aware of project status and I get an instant reply to every question I ask.

For what projects/services did your company hire Purrweb, and what were your goals?

The Purrweb team has helped us develop 2 of our products. At first, we hired Purrweb to add new features and improve the existing versions, however later decided to rebuild them completely, so in the result they built both products from scratch. These are cross-platform apps for event organizers which help them maximize exposure at exhibitions.

One provides visitors with a desktop interface, where they can explore the map (zoom in and out), check the schedule of speakers, get needed info about exhibitors, create checklists and then receive them as an email. The other is a cross-platform app, which is connected with digital displays at Business Events and provides a seamless multimedia experience for event organizers.

The app enables users to design and schedule monitors from the web, using computer, tablet or smartphone. One of the most important points of the project was stability and performance even on low spec devices: 4GB RAM and 2Ghz Celeron processor with 10k exhibitors and 10k stands as a target (almost 3X more than what we initially had).

The software was meant to display event information on large screens and support different screen ratios. Plus, we planned to support a large range of file formats, including video and presentations.

SOLUTION

How did you select Purrweb and what were the deciding factors?

I was impressed by their portfolio, so I contacted them and we discussed details on a video call.

Initially, we had an outdated and unsupported WinJS application, and needed to improve it. Purrweb team worked hard to make it as stable as possible, even implemented new features, reworked event analytics as agreed but architecture and code structure didn’t allow us to improve the app as much as we wanted originally.

So, their manager offered to re-write the app completely with a more modern tech stack. We agreed, and it turned out to be a great idea which really took our product to the next level. Purrweb team rebuilt both products from scratch, came up with a highly configurable interface, which allows users to add and manage content on the fly, set up the timetable and update event information, which adapts to any screen size and works stable even on low-spec devices.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The software they delivered has helped us reach and serve new customers around the world. The product works very stable, which significantly reduces our support costs. Also, it supports all possible screen sizes, and was successfully used at more than 180 exhibitions held by our clients, including Digital Transformation EXPO Europe 2019 (~ 15 000 visitors), Festival of Marketing 2019 (~ 4000 visitors), Big Data LDN 2019 (~ 7 000 visitors).

They assigned a Project Manager who was very comfortable to work with - everything was well-communicated, and the process was transparent. They were even able to make suggestions on product improvement, which really worked and took the whole thing to the next level.

They have a very talented and dedicated team of developers, and the quality of the final product was really-really high. I would definitely recommend Purrweb whether you are looking to build an MVP or a finished product. They are great developers and they will help make your idea a reality.

What were your goals for this project?

I wanted to create a solution which would help students in learning, as well as help tutors share their knowledge in a convenient and modern way. I already had another team who will do the development, so regarding Purrweb my goal was only UI/UX Design.

I saw Purrweb on Instagram, and then I also checked their Behance profile - their portfolio is amazing, so I contacted them in DM and we scheduled a video call to discuss the project, our next steps and the whole process.

This project is an app that connects students with tutors. The student can look for tutors in a subject he/she needs help with. The chosen tutor will give the student personal lessons. Purrweb provided UI/UX Design services, supplying all the deliverables needed for further development.

The design is ready, and I can hand it off to developers for further implementation.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I don’t do that kind of projects very often, so I don’t have many examples for comparison, however everything was great - their Project Manager was very responsive, it was maximum 2 hours to get a reply from him. I know usually designers don’t like modifications, however this wasn’t the case with Purrweb - they were very patient and comfortable to work with. They made the price and project stages very clear, and I was aware of everything happening on the project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They provided a top-notch design, and also they were able to provide me suggestions on how to save budget on later stages, e.g. if we do it this way, it will cost you more on the programming stage, and so on. I’ve already recommended Purrweb to all my friends who may need UI/UX Design - I even annoyed them trying to make them check out Purrweb’s Instagram profile. I know that 10 out of 10 exists only in a perfect world or a vacuum, however these guys are really close to it. They even exceeded my expectations.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Just one suggestion - maybe they could have asked more questions about the project in the beginning. However, communication was great and they provided awesome results after all.

The most complex part of my project was the information visualisation. As I’m a tech-guy, it was tough for me to imagine how it should look like. The guys from Purrweb have helped me with that and the visualization they created will help my future users to easily navigate through the platform.

I love my assigned project manager, she is nice and communicates clearly. I was always aware of the project current stage, we had regular video calls and feedback sessions.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Purrweb has an impressive portfolio of really beautiful UI/UX works. I also love the way they were working with my feedback and comments on the work done. The improvements were quick and the result is perfect.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I’d probably prefer the designer to attend the video calls together with me and PM. On the other hand, I understand it could be time consuming and distract the designer from their daily tasks.

It is too early to provide tangible project results, however the work Purrweb performed exceeded our expectations and so we hope to be able to report on results in the coming months.

We hired the Purrweb team to design a web platform for building SMS/email campaigns for people with little or no coding experience, especially for small business owners who want to link a marketing campaign to a website and promote themselves by increasing the traffic load of new customers.

Our goal was to create a web-based service for people with little or no coding experience, with a user-friendly interface, which would be a more accessible, convenient, and transparent solution than the existing alternatives. As for Purrweb, our goal was to create UI/UX design, because we already had a development team working on the project.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I published a UI/UX design job post on Upwork, and received about 50 bids in several hours, however I stopped at Purrweb without even shortlisting others - I liked their portfolio and was happy about the fact that they had solid experience designing apps with CRM features.

We signed an NDA and scheduled a call after a few messages, and discussed my ideas and their approach in more detail. They offered me to start with a test contract to check our working relations. By the end of the test period, I was happy with everything, so we continued working together.

They’ve created the UI/UX design from scratch, based on the list of competitor apps which I’ve pointed out for reference. Their manager combined my ideas and competitors’ best practices, and together with the designer they transformed it into an outstanding and unique concept.

We even extended our contract and decided to add a landing page builder to the project. It was nice working with the Purrweb team, due to their great communication skills and perfect working ethics. They provided the highest quality deliverables, always on time, along with detailed reports after every update.

PurrWeb provided us with a complete service solution for designing our customer-facing platform, so we can launch our platform as soon as we finish the development part. We’ll come back to this team for further enhancements and design of new features, and I would recommend them to everyone who looks for an awesome UX/UI team.

The work was organized in weekly sprints, and we’ve had video conferences after every sprint to track progress and share ideas. Thanks to the product manager's presence on the project, I didn’t have to worry about short-term daily management at all, which was great. However, I’ve always had the full picture of what’s going on.

They provided brilliant results, the working process was transparent, and their punctuality was perfect - so I would say that Purrweb’s management effectiveness is 100%.

They are extremely talented, as well as upfront and honest. Their attention to detail, and care on a whole, was of the highest level - Purrweb is a very client-oriented team.
