The National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC) works to enable access and choice by providing data, analytics, and connections that bring together investors and providers.

As the senior director of corporate communications and marketing, I lead all marketing activities and was accountable for the project we embarked on with Pumex.

We hired Pumux to develop a new networking portal or “community connector” to help our core constituents build and engage with a professional network during the pandemic when in-person meetings (like conferences and sales meetings) weren’t possible.

We choose Pumux in part because of their strong communication, fast response, and high-quality implementation. We experienced all of those values during our project. Additionally, we found Pumex to be very collaborative with ideas, and they even proposed a different pricing model, that benefited us, based on how the project was developing.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The community connector was built using the Salesforce Community cloud and integrated with our Salesforce instance. Features of the portal included logic-based profile and directory management, payment processing, and social/communications networking, along with UI/UX support. We worked in two-week sprint cycles to develop and build, test, demo and deploy each iteration.

This regular cadence of meeting to share requirements, provide updates, and review the development allowed us to ensure we were on course and to move swiftly.

The Pumex team was made up of a variety of disciplines to form a strong team including a Business Analyst, Project Manager, and several developers. Pumex leadership, including Chris Scirpoli, the president, was very involved throughout the project in ensuring its success.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Upon launch, approximately 30% of our typical audience logged into the platform, created a profile, and made connections.

Communications were clear and frequent. Working in multiple times zones didn't impede progress or communications. Depending on the purpose of the communications, information was provided in writing, then verbalized. We regularly used video conferencing, a messaging app, and email to stay in touch.

I'm the CIO at a medical certification organization certifying over 150,000 individuals worldwide.

For what projects/services did your company hire Pumex Computing, LLC?

We needed to add staff quickly in our development staff to accommodate some turnover and increase workload. Additionally we were looking for deeper talent than what was immediately available to the organization.

SOLUTION

How did you select this agency and what were the deciding factors?

Primarily, they offered excellent guidance on the best types of people to help solve the problems we described to them. They demonstrated this through providing flexible terms and very reasonable pricing for the resources we needed. Additionally, their depth of knowledge in the nonprofit space positioned them well to provide further advice as we've worked with them.

They have provided a senior developer that we were able to assign almost exclusively to a time-sensitive integration project. They have also provided us with a QA engineer and a BA to help us document and build a more robust automated QA stack that is helping us ship better code.

I met directly with the President at Pumex and discussed our business and needs. Next we were able to discuss the contracts and general pricing ranges for the types of skills we needed. Fairly quickly, Pumex was able to shortlist some candidates for us that we brought on-board very quickly.

Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

We have been able to meet our deadlines and build out better documentation and QA workflow for our development team. Some of this work is ongoing, but the quality of the work demonstrated will allow us to keep moving into new areas in the future.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The biggest hurdle continues to be our time zone differences. As a fully remote team, our meeting load tends to be high and so often the window of time to work together with the off-shore resources can be limited. But in general, the teams have blended well and provided excellent value for us.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their transparency and responsiveness are impressive. It is easy to reach key people within the organization, have meaningful conversations that then lends to better trust and more opportunities for both parties.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

None. We are really happy with our collaboration.

I'm the chief information officer of a healthcare company; we do certifications for foot and ankle surgeons.

We have a logging system where the surgeons upload the patients they have seen for examination requirements. The site we used for the application was outdated, so we hired Pumex Computing to build a modern, up-to-date application with responsive design and new features within it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Pumex Computing, LLC has been doing custom software development for us. It's a platform based on .NET and SQL servers. We signed the contract with the steps laid out and the payment established.

Currently, we are doing user testing on the website.

We worked with about seven people from their team, including a project manager, business analysts, a development team, and Antony (CEO).

We advertised the position and received about six submissions. We interviewed several companies and picked Pumex Computing based on their proposal and pricing.

The partnership began in August 2021, and it's still ongoing.

It's a small project; we will end up spending about $65,000.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had the initial round of feedback from the platform's internal and external users, and they were pleased with the design and the features. According to our timelines, they've also been meeting our established milestones of building the different website pieces.

Additionally, their QA process is detailed, their low testing is helpful, and our development team is delighted with their coding work.

How did Pumex Computing, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They're amazing with project management; we use in-person meetings, weekly sprint reviews on the code, emails, phone calls, GitHub, Jira, and Microsoft Teams sessions from a communication standpoint. In addition to that, we have monthly calls with their CEO to make sure everything's on time and within the budget.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their development staff is highly effective in project management, procedures, and achieving deadlines. Overall, they're good at what they do, and if there's an issue, they'll tell us right away.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think there's anything they can improve on — their team is ahead of the curve in achieving our requirements.

Any advice for potential customers?

Have your requirements defined and laid out for them; they're professional, have sound business judgment, and are an excellent development firm, so if you provide that, they'll deliver high-quality work.

Their project management style was great. They completed the project within the original timeline, hitting every milestone along the way. Also, we never had to follow up or double-check work.

In terms of communication, they were very responsive. Whenever I emailed Chris, he always got back to me within a couple of hours. Overall, their team was already ready to help, especially when we needed a quote.

I don’t have any specific KPIs, but the latest platform that ​​Pumex Computing, LLC developed has secured our website; we’ve avoided a number of potential security breaches because of the platform upgrade. Overall, 16 of our 65 affiliate websites have been upgraded to our common platform with a consistently branded look.

Pumex Computing, LLC shines when it comes to project management. Our blended PM team communicates via conference calls and email. Internally, Pumex Computing, LLC uses Confluence and Jira to manage our several concurrent projects.

Pumex Computing, LLC’s project management systems ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. They adhere to a PM framework on each project that ensures work is handled consistently. Issues, bugs, and scope changes are tracked until remediation and/or completion.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The current job market makes it difficult to retain talent. Pumex Computing, LLC has lost the occasional team member mid-stream.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d encourage customers to put their trust in Pumex Computing, LLC to deliver on time and to spec. Also, customers shouldn’t hesitate to utilize Pumex Computing, LLC’s team to help define the parameters of their project.

Everything that they’ve done for us is centered around the efficiency and optimization of their process, and how they enable our customers to make better decisions.

Their project management system is always on point so I’m very satisfied. They use a JIRA ticketing system which provides me with reports in terms of the progress they’ve made.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What distinguishes them from other providers is their ethics and execution. We trust them to get the job done on time and on budget.

I always feel like the ownership structure listens to my advice and implements them accordingly, so I don’t have any constructive criticism on their process.

I would advise knowing what your requirements are in order for the provider to help you integrate them into the project successfully.
