I'm the founder of CoffeeGrab, an app that lets people order ahead from local cafes and pick up their coffee without waiting in line.

What challenge were you trying to address with Psychoactive Studios?

We needed help rebuilding our brand and getting a website live for our initial launch.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Psychoactive helped us work through how CoffeeGrab should look, feel and explain itself. They worked on our brand strategy, visual identity and guidelines, designed and developed our website, and helped redesign our mobile app to fit the new branding.
The deliverables included our brand strategy and guidelines, website and app designs in Figma, the launch website and supporting launch assets. Andrew took the time to understand the business and made sure the brand, website and app all worked together.

Someone referred Psychoactive Studios to me.

What is the status of this engagement?

The original project ran in August 2024. We still work with them on occasional follow-on projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We came away with a brand and website we were proud to launch, and a redesigned mobile app that fitted the new branding. Andrew helped us get clear about how we presented CoffeeGrab and explained what the app offered.
The whole experience felt consistent, from the website to the app. What stood out was how closely the work reflected his understanding of the business. We've continued returning to him for additional projects because we value both the work and the experience of working with him.

How did Psychoactive Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

Andrew's project management was exceptional. The work was incredibly detailed, yet he handled it with ease and delivered on time. He kept us involved, listened carefully and made sure nothing was overlooked. His attention to detail never made the process feel heavy or difficult. He brought clarity to every discussion, and I always felt the project was in very capable hands. That combination of organisation, care and creative ability is rare.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Andrew's attention to detail and the depth of his understanding were extraordinary. He left no stone unturned and built a remarkably detailed picture of CoffeeGrab and what we needed. When he said he wanted to understand the business, he meant it, and that understanding came through in everything he did.
Every decision felt intentional. Every conversation added value. He could hold all that detail, make sense of it and turn it into something creative while making the whole process look easy. To me, Andrew is a creative genius. His talent, management skills and care for the work are an exceptional combination.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing significant comes to mind. We've been very happy with Andrew and the team, and we've continued working with them on other projects since.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would wholeheartedly recommend Andrew and Psychoactive. Give him the context and time to understand what you're building. The depth of thought, care and creativity he brings is worth it.

What challenge were you trying to address with Psychoactive Studios?

We needed a website that showcased Wildboy Studios and its games and captured the studio's creative, playful personality.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Psychoactive Studios designed and developed the Wildboy Studios website, a Webflow build that showcases the studio and its games to the press, players, and partners. The team had full creative agency and developed the visual language and brand for our studio website.

How did you come to work with Psychoactive Studios?

We operate in the same city and found out about them from a co-working space. We chose them over other options because they were close to my geographic location, had pricing that fit our budget, had a great culture fit, and had company values that aligned with ours.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September–November 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've been able to keep a professional presence online, which has led to an increased amount of organic outreach opening up business opportunities. We've also been told our website looks really good.

How did Psychoactive Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

They did an amazing job communicating with us and delivering every milestone on time. We primarily communicated in person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to capture the soul of a business and deliver their creative twist on it in a way that best represents the business while respecting the outlined budget was impressive.

We hired them to design and develop an entirely new website and branding.

Their previous experience and enthusiasm.

At least 5 different people worked with us. Developers, designers and hard to know what their other positions were.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Psychoactive Studios told me how great of a website they could build for me. They did a great job on design. They built a nice template and made big promises, charged a high price and failed to deliver many of the promises. First off, their product pages were all the same generic design. We had designed beautiful product pages on our old website and they said they would not redesign individual product pages or even migrate the actual design after we had begun developing the new site.

We were left stuck with all these generic product pages with the same bland look and feel. That was the first big disappointment, but then came much more. Even though they agreed to do the entire website including product page migration, they decided they "did not have time" to migrate the product pages because they "made a mistake in thinking the Wordpress pages could be exported automatically into a spreadsheet."

They broke the bad news and the agreement to me two days before the website was supposed to be completed by. In fact, the website had many missing items by the deadline which was already weeks overdue. They left me and my staff to do the migration of the product pages ourselves which was a huge slap in the face.

They had told us how they loved to create icons and then when it came time for the actual design of the website only 4 super basic ones were made and they said the reason for this was they did not think the site needed it, despite the fact that our product pages on our old website had tons of great ones made. There were many emails that we sent as we needed crucial information. They ignored many of our emails which was so frustrating.

Overall this was the most frustrating web development experience I have ever dealt with. I would not recommend this agency as they lack integrity, do not honor commitments, use leverage of payment as they ask that all payments be made upfront and then deliver and respond to you when it suits them. There is no clear leadership as you have sometimes 5 different staff members emailing you different things and they lay responsibility on those staff if something is amiss or not delivered on time.

The icing on the cake was that Webflow did not have a very basic thing we needed which was recurring payments. They claimed they told me this in the beginning, but there was zero evidence of this in any communication and it is also hard to believe because they designed our pages which had recurring payment options on many of them. We had to hire another developer to migrate the website from Webflow to another platform which cost a lot of money and time.

They left us with a website that still had many flaws and was far from ready, yet we still had to pay all the money for a complete website. In short, I absolutely do not recommend this agency to anyone and would never give them another dollar of mine. If you do end up working with them, record every conversation as they will say things and then claim not to remember or that it was a misunderstanding on your part. Do not pay them upfront except a small partial deposit and do not pay any more until the site is totally complete. Better yet, save yourself the headache and find another agency.

They do not respond to many emails so you must track what they do not respond to They do not follow what you request even if they agree verbally-everything must be in writing and must be in a contract as they will not honor anything else Do not pay before the website is complete They do not respect timelines or deadlines, they work at their own pace regardless of the agreement They cannot accept any criticisms and will ignore you for days if you give any They will shirk responsibility They will try to charge you for any little extra thing and even things they originally agreed to do

Their project management seemed very good at first, but then unwound and I saw how flawed their project management actually was. They used email primarily to communicate and also video calls.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

Psychoactive designed and developed the Hype Entertainment website, covering UX, visual design and front-end build. The initial site launched in 2020 and earned international recognition; a later update round (around 60 hours) and a relaunch in February 2023 kept it current.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The site won an Awwwards Honourable Mention (July 2020) and a CSSDA Website of the Day (October 2020). The relationship has continued since, with an update round in 2022 and a relaunch in February 2023.
