I have worked with Philly Marketing Labs in the past and have found them to be great partners. With the website update project, their recommendations were strategic based on our brand goals and budget. It felt like they were an extension of our internal team with how they balanced what was best for the brand, while staying within budget.

We had a kick off meeting where we discussed the brand objectives for the website and objectives. We provided creative examples of how we wanted the design. In turn, PML provided strategic recommendations on ways to improve the shopping experience for consumers based on layout, site performance, etc.

We had about 4-5 people working on the project from PML. Our main points of contact were the President, web developer and project manager - all of whom were exceptional.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We are three weeks post launch and we already seem to have improved engagement rates on the site during a seasonally slow period for the brand. In addition, we have gotten great feedback from consumers on the new look and feel of the updated site.

We were trying to raise awareness of our flagship brand, so we needed someone who could help us raise awareness through YouTube and search engines.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Philly Marketing Labs helps us increase our brand awareness by utilizing YouTube and search engine marketing. They take on a strategic role by monitoring and analyzing the performance of our YouTube videos. They also conduct awareness studies and optimize our content accordingly.

Additionally, Philly Marketing Labs started providing web security services after our website was hacked. They fixed it and have set up a long-term security system. If our site ever goes down, they’ll work on it immediately. They’ve also provided some web design services.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

When we started, we only had roughly around 16% ad recall. However, with the team’s strategies in place, we’ve almost doubled our ad recall.

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The team is always available when we need them. Furthermore, they keep us updated on how things are performing. Philly Marketing Labs has weekly video calls with some of my internal team members, and I would join the call every two weeks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Philly Marketing Labs is willing to find solutions to challenges that are out of the box and go against the status quo. They’re willing to hear our challenges and work with us to find practical solutions. The team is just always up to the task when it comes to any challenge. In addition, they’re good listeners and are always available.

There’s nothing they could do differently. However, everyone can improve, and the team should keep going to find new and better solutions.

They also help us manage our website and optimize it according to SEO metrics. They research and provide trending keywords, and we develop content to target those keywords.

We’ve invested between $500,000–$600,000 so far. Our budget varies per search, and we spend between $200,000–$300,000 for each of my brands.

I started working with them in January 2018, and our contract is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

In terms of our SERPs performance, we measure success using cost-per-view, cost-per-click, and impression metrics. Based on these metrics, Philly Marketing Labs has overdelivered. They’re also great at SERPs management and coming up with new opportunities for my brands. Overall, they’re one of the better agencies that we’ve worked with. I like working with them and how responsive they are. Above all, everyone in their team is fantastic.

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is fantastic. I don’t know exactly what tools they use for SERPs management, but I know that they’re good at scheduling regular meetings and follow-ups to make sure that we move things along. For the most part, delays come from our end because of the regulatory and legal reviews that we go through. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Philly Marketing Labs is truly an expert in their area, particularly around SERPs. They respond quickly to feedback, and they’re very creative. They always know what’s going on, so they come back with ideas that are extremely relevant to our brands. Above all, they can use our feedback and their learnings about business performance to come up with strategic recommendations.

No, there aren’t any.

Go for them. They’re great experts in the areas of SERPs and digital videos. Make sure you talk to their various teams, which are small but are experts in their respective areas. Don’t hesitate — go ahead and work with Philly Marketing Labs.

We look at KPIs offered by advertising platforms for efficiency and engagement measures. As part of our monthly reports, we look for Philly Marketing to exceed the industry benchmarks provided by these platforms. The other metrics we look at include cost-per-click and CTR. We also check how our sales are improving alongside their activations — and we’ve certainly seen our sales increase. 

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re very good in terms of project management. We communicate weekly over email when we have active projects. On an ongoing reporting basis, we communicate over video chat. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their responsiveness and willingness to help are most impressive. We never have to chase them down for answers or updates. They go above and beyond to add value and help the business wherever there’s an opportunity for them to do so.

They can try to be a bit more proactive in bringing new ideas to the forefront of our engagement.

They’re great at responding to requests for suggestions that fall outside of their scope. If something comes up and we ask them what they think, they give truly good answers.

It has been a very good partnership. They’re very focused on data and over time they’ve been able to identify search trends that work for us. The team gives us really good estimates for each project. Above all, we have a pretty small search budget and they’ve been able to maximize that for us and get us some good results at the same time.

Philly Marketing responds quickly. They’re good at updating us with any information about the projects we’re working on. Moreover, they’re also good at identifying and fixing any problems that they notice. On the other hand, if we’re the one who notices the problems first, they jump right away to solve our issues efficiently.

Their communication skills are wonderful. Furthermore, over the course of our relationship, they’ve been able to do great things when it comes to our website performance.

We don’t do outbound cold calling. Instead, we rely on inbound calls generated from our digital marketing. I work with Philly Marketing Labs (PML) on online/digital marketing. They manage and optimize our ad campaigns on Google Ads, YouTube, Microsoft ads, and they design and maintain our website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Philly Marketing Labs manages and optimizes our ad campaigns on Google Ads, YouTube, Microsoft ads, and they design and maintain our website. They have full visibility into our lead attributions so they can direct our working dollars to drive the biggest results. Bechara (Co-Founder & CEO) is involved in our account and provides us monthly reports covering our profit margins, revenue, bounce rate, percentage of walk-ins, conversion rates, and everything else. They also report on our salespeople’s closing ratios, how they’re doing, and what they’re doing. 

Their team has redesigned the layout of our website via Magento. We’ve already done our second redesign, and we’re talking about the third one on a different platform. We recently shifted our focus from self-contained pieces of equipment to walk-ins, and they've designed several site pages for that type of equipment. In the past, they've written blogs and other content to redirect people to our site.

We work with Bechara, who also communicates with our company’s owner.

We are very happy with them. Philly Marketing Labs gives us a lot of information about our performance. We are a leader in commercial refrigeration and possess a leading market share because of the marketing they do for us. Our KPI exceeds industry standards by a large margin.  They’re extremely responsive and knowledgeable, and their attention to detail is amazing. 

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The team’s project management is great. They’re very responsive, so I’m on the phone with them a lot. I can text or call them any time. We could be talking every day and sometimes twice a day as we’re working on a project. They want our feedback, and we want theirs, so we’re working together all the time. They’re constantly there to communicate. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Philly Marketing’s attention to detail is impressive. They’re truly knowledgeable and detail-oriented, and they give us more information than we even request at this point. We get something brand new every month to look at, so it’s amazing.

No, there aren’t. I can’t think of anything they could improve. They’re extremely good at what they do.

Focus on communication. They’re very responsive, so if you communicate with them, they’ll communicate with you. You just need to let them know what you’re looking for and where you want to go. Tell them what your aim is, and they’ll take care of it.

We needed PML to help us improve our SEO for key campaign destinations. We also needed them to scale our targeted campaigns through Google, Bing, and other search engines across different regions.

What was the scope of their involvement?

PML helps us with audience segmentation. Moreover, they prepare and analyze keywords and ads for us. They also run a handful of our campaigns in different geographies.

The team keeps track of what’s happening and optimizes the things that are working well while turning off things that are dull. They also act as a consultant or adviser when we’re strategizing around new potential campaigns.

They’re running around six projects for me right now. Some of them started when we made the change in their role in early 2020, while some are fairly new and have been started only in the last few weeks.

Before my time at the company, they were already there, so I didn’t know how they came to us and what the process was for qualifying them. However, I quickly saw the value of what they’re doing. We pivoted and changed their role to be a bit more of a strategic partner for us rather than just running and executing branded campaigns.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It’s a real collaboration and partnership with complete visibility and transparency to the information flow and data. There are specific KPIs associated with every project or anything that we do internally. That’s our baseline. The framework for all of the things we do with PML has goals tied to them, such as conversion tracking goals, so we can quickly figure out and measure what’s working and what’s not.

They’ve also built dashboards where they give us directions and suggestions for improvement. We use the methodology enabled by our tech to measure the conversion goals. Then, we compare them to our KPIs to determine whether they’re trending in the right direction. 

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

PML does a great job managing the project. They’re great collaborators and communicators. The dashboard they've created helps us access information without having to reach out to them and wait. 

They've made the partnership very easy for us. They’re very good partners to talk with in terms of ideas. They’re good not just in execution but also in brainstorming. Overall, they have good communication, collaboration, and project management skills. 

From a collaboration standpoint, we’re pretty close on the tech side. We use various tools to communicate. We use Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, as well as Zoom. We also use Google Data Studio to communicate data.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a part of our team. It’s not “us” and “them” — it’s a “we”. PML thinks about things from our point of view, and they suggest things as if they’re employees of our company. They look at the campaigns and solutions smartly, as if we’re not a client and we’re a single team. I very much respect that about them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. I’m happy with them. They proactively come up with innovative ideas and suggestions. They should keep up what they’re doing.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If someone’s going to work with them, and if they want the best results, they should let PML bring their expertise. Don’t be prescriptive and tell them what they need to do. Be open-minded and tell them what you’re trying to solve. Tell them what assets they can work on to solve the problem.

Ask for their guidance, input, and counsel because you’ll get much better results since you’ll be solving the problem together. They have excellent skills and experience, and if you’re not tapping into that because you’re being prescriptive, then you’re selling yourself short because they’re great at what they do.

I was the senior marketing director at a healthcare manufacturer. We manufacture over-the-counter (OTC) medications and other light medical treatments. We’re a manufacturer and importer of 60–70 different brands. My role initially was to oversee all aspects of digital marketing then that expanded to having responsibility over all media.

What challenge were you trying to address with Philly Marketing Labs?

The objective was twofold. One part was to always make sure there was a professional, usable, functional, and intuitive destination for any consumer seeking information about our product, namely a website. Because our company had grown through acquisitions over many years, there were over 50 different websites on different platforms in different states of maintenance and needs of repair.

Managing all of those was very inefficient, cumbersome, and expensive. The initial remit for Philly Marketing Labs was to wrangle all of that into a centralized and streamlined platform so we could maintain, update, and present it in a much more efficient manner while also being pleasing to our consumers.

Philly Marketing Labs’s other responsibility was for our paid search marketing, primarily Google and a little bit of Microsoft. That objective was to make sure our brands were presented so any consumer seeking a relevant solution could actively search for a specific condition or remedy. We needed to make sure that our brands were front and center.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

On the web front, they handled our 50 different websites where some sites were simply rebuilt, some fully redesigned, but all deployed on a centralized distribution so that each function and skeleton was universal. This helped us save on maintenance, hosting, and so on. During that time, we launched the 50+ websites and did so ahead of schedule.

In the three years following that, they’ve handled maintenance in a more streamlined manner Philly Marketing Labs’s job was not just to work with me, but to work with over dozen brand managers to ensure they could request changes and updates as well as manage their websites. I was the project manager interfacing with all of them.

On the search side, Philly Marketing Labs digests each brand’s objective and strategies for the upcoming year and make recommendations based on different tiers of needs. They consider the search keywords, bidding strategies, and budgets in order to make a plan for paid search. The result of that is a certain amount of coverage or impression share.

We set objectives for reach brand and category of intent and then executed on that. Although most of these efforts were predominantly through Google. Philly Marketing Labs also managed our paid YouTube campaigns. They brought in Microsoft Ads, and we’ve been investing there.

I worked closely with Bechara (Co-Founder & CEO). Over time there were a number of other individuals including Tommy (Executive Vice President - Paid Search & Video), Trisha (Hybrid Designer & Web Development Specialist), and Natalia (Digital Marketer). I didn’t directly interface with their programmers that much, but on occasion, I’d interact with Mike (Full-Stack Developer). There were also a number of individuals working on their search team under Tommy.

How did you come to work with Philly Marketing Labs?

They were contracted through an RFP process just before I joined the company. My predecessor hired them and I inherited that responsibility to rebuild and replatform 50 different websites.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started in May 2015.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The work for the 50+ websites was scheduled for 24 months, and we accelerated it into 15 months. The system that was put into place was very intuitive, simple, and generally speaking, everyone has been happy.

In terms of KPIs, our website bounce rate, time on site, pages per visit, visits to certain functions, and load times all improved substantially. However, the central KPI was the happiness of our brand managers and that was a resounding yes. The project was on time and within budget.

On the search side, Philly Marketing Labs has done really well. Over five years, the metrics have improved. We had a joke that the metrics couldn’t get any better than what they were. I’d tell Philly Marketing Labs to make them better anyway, and they did. We’re very pleased with how that went.

Philly Marketing Labs is very proactive. They successfully manage 50 websites with a lot of brand managers who have other priorities. They’d often find an issue or opportunity long before we’d be aware of it. Their team is efficient, flexible, and easy to work with.

Most of all, they never nickel and dime us. We felt we were already getting a great rate on maintenance but there was almost never an extra cost. I trust them with my professional life. They’ve been immensely great partners, and we wouldn’t have been successful without their help.

How did Philly Marketing Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management is good, I’m sure they use a tool behind the scenes but our team didn’t have the attention for it. Making our lives easy was one of their goals and they did that. We use a tool for ticket logging; it made things very easy because it’s intuitive and simple. Philly Marketing Labs is extremely responsive and collaborative. They’re great at collaborating with our other partners and agencies, even when some of those companies weren’t so communicative.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s how committed they are to their clients. They really dig in and got to know the business inside and out. There’s a lot to know about OTC healthcare, especially when you’re managing over 30 brands on a regular basis out of the 60 that are really active.

Philly Marketing Labs had to become experts on some very unique and sometimes uncomfortable topics. They’re exceptional at customer service. Their team was dedicated to making sure people were happy and not distracted or frustrated.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should be a little more willing to say no. On occasion clients, like my company, may take advantage of how much leverage they have over them or how committed they are. Occasionally, they should be willing to say no. Otherwise, it’s going to be a scramble to deliver. They definitely would deliver, but sometimes they backed themselves into a corner.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Don’t expect big-agency bureaucracy if that’s what you’re into. That’s not what you’re going to get. Philly Marketing Labs is going to bring extensive knowledge, capability, and professionalism but they won’t dazzle you with 50 extra slides that serve no purpose.

Recognize that if you’re working with them, you’re working with a relatively small company. They can deliver what they say they can but don’t expect them to magically have a capability they never claimed to have in the first place.
