Perform Labs took my product requirements document and fully coded the platform it envisioned. The platform had to integrate with Podchaser's API and perform novel functions such as scraping podcast show notes for URLs and automatically generating interactive prompt cards from those URLs. Additionally, the platform needed to perform standard podcast platform functionality such as playback, podcast subscription, and more.

Perform Labs built a platform that is fully functional and operates as-intended.

We ran into a number of unexpected obstacles and had to make some pivots to our originally intended API partners. Therefore, we didn't meet the originally envisioned product roadmap milestones. They were highly diligent and communicative and ensured my full satisfaction with the final product.

I was impressed by their willingness to let me sit in on their technical team meetings and weigh in with strategies for solving problems we were encountering.

Are there any areas for improvement or something {Perform Labs could have done differently?

Ultimately, we didn't achieve two important components of the product. First, there are no previews when someone shares a link from Intercast to any social media platform. I believe this greatly hampers the potential for virality. I was told this was because we used React and all of the content is hosted on a third party server via an API. I wish I would have understood this limitation at the outset. 

Second, several of the interactive prompts I'd envisioned didn't materialize as-designed. Instead, they were diminished. This is because our requests for information (such as profile photos, user handles, etc) were blocked by the sites we were pinging (Twitter, Facebook, etc). I feel like there has to be a solution to this.

I hired them for marketing services to grow my business.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Perform Labs provides us with advertising and marketing services. The team started with a discovery phase where they asked about my business, industry, where my customers come from, and our ideal customer. We also told them about our biggest challenges to growing the business and prior successes. 

They’ve provided us with web development using WordPress. My existing website wasn’t up to date and wasn’t generating leads. Perform Labs has recreated the website; they redesigned it and created wireframes, implemented the new design, set up hosting, and now provide maintenance. 

The website’s core features include a contact page, links to Google reviews, and a resource page with newsletters that Perform Labs has helped me design. We requested that the site could integrate with other real estate websites so that we could get all active listings on our site, and Perform Labs has handled that. I provided them with digital assets such as testimonials and news features, which Perform Labs has added to my website. The team has also written a lot of the site’s initial copy. 

Additionally, Perform Labs provides us with social media management (SMM). I create the content, and the team manages posting and scheduling.

I work with three teammates from Perform Labs, and Rob (Founder) acts as our CMO.

I had heard Rob speaking a number of times and realized he knew more about marketing and digital marketing than the vast majority of people, so I wanted him to lead my marketing team. His knowledge base, level-headedness, and understanding of marketing were deciding factors for hiring Perform Labs.

We started working with them around 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The engagement has already paid for itself; enough business has come our way that wouldn’t have come otherwise to return our investment. Perform Labs has helped establish our company’s authority and credibility through our website. 

Overall, the quality of Perform Labs’ work is excellent. They’re full-service, high-relationship, high-touch, accessible, good at listening, and very professional at every step. 

How did Perform Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

They deliver on time, within the budget, and drama-free. Perform Labs finished the website development within a few weeks. 

We have an ongoing Wednesday meeting where we go through progress and improvements. The meeting length depends on what’s happening, and Perform Labs is incredibly responsive, receptive, and engaged at all times. We also use email to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Perform Labs’ marketing intelligence distinguishes them from other providers. Their skills go beyond the bits and bytes of a computer; they think about how humans will interact with a digital device. Moreover, what they’re doing works, and I get unsolicited third-party validation for the website. 

There are many companies out there that understand how to do digital work on a technical level, and there are many others that understand how marketing and branding work, but they’re not good technically. Finding a team that understands how to combine branding, marketing, and campaigns with digital integration is hard, and Perform Labs does that extremely well.

There’s nothing they need to improve.

• Adding a blog section and comments to our website 
• In addition to providing consulting services on what to improve to optimize SEO scores of our website

• Our SEO scores increased and we had more flexibility with WordPress to set up multiple A/B tests, which has helped us increase our sign-up conversion very quickly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

As a paid traffic agency also working with clients across industries on their funnel conversions, we have to deliver results. We haven't found many vendors up to that bar. PerformLabs' name is spot on, since they build some of the most mobile-responsive and fastest-loading landing pages we’ve seen. 

When a page is proven to convert, that speed boost is especially huge for squeezing more juice from it. So many people visit pages on their phones with bad cell signals and bounce if it doesn’t load “insta” fast. Their speed doesn’t stop there, either. Noah and Chad are quick to reply with details when we want their opinions, work timelines or revisions. They’re easygoing folks, and they’re also lifesavers when we need out-of-the-blue changes. They know what’s required to delight our clients. 

What’s the catch? Well, PerformLabs often isn’t the cheapest way to get work done. They’re our go-to when stakes are high, especially when we’re ramping traffic way up. Sometimes, nothing is more expensive than a cheap vendor.

Some sort of shared project management system would give even more clarity about progress and timelines.

I am a co-founder of Train. We’re a basketball training platform looking to shake things up in the online space with a new type of online course streaming service.

For what projects/services did your company hire Perform Labs, and what were your goals?

We worked with Perform Labs to develop our premium level online platform. Our goals of having a dynamic, modern-looking and user-friendly web application for basketball course streaming required custom work so we felt like we needed specialists rather than an out-of-the-box product. Our primary focus is on establishing our brand as the premiere resource for quality basketball content, creating a community / user base around it and providing affordable online training to players.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I was intrigued by the on-time / within budget guarantee that Perform Labs offers. Even more, about the prospect that if we weren’t satisfied with the outcome, further work would be done until we were, at no extra cost. This put a considerable gap between them and other companies I was considering. We also had a very strict budget and, after receiving the first estimates for work time, delivery and features, I felt that we were getting everything we needed for the first version of our site.

We had a couple of discovery calls after deciding to work together, to outline high level parameters of how interaction would occur, what the development and design sprints would look like, what I should expect and what my contact points were. I then received initial wireframes of the entire UI and a mockup of the first iteration of the homepage as well as a description of the design language used.

The entire project was custom built using the React architecture and I received access to a tool called Pastel where I could easily add notes on design or functionality I felt were needed. They also used Trello as a project management tool and Slack for communication, so sharing feedback and input was really easy. During the entire process we had weekly online calls where I was presented with a detailed account of what was worked on and what we had upcoming.

I had a primary contact project manager and had 4 additional resources on the project: a full stack developer team leader, one front end developer, one back-end developer and a designer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Since the project is brand new and has a different profile than my other websites, there are no performance metrics to which I can compare, but I was extremely pleased to have received a large volume of positive feedback from people in my industry, particularly on the design and functionality of the website.

I was hoping we would be able to receive an easy-to-use solution that was comfortable to use even for non tech-savvy people and the fact that we are getting attention and attracting coaches and players at a good pace without any heavy advertising so far confirms that is the case.

As mentioned before, we had weekly scheduled calls throughout the process but I was very pleased to be kept in the loop even outside of that. Any custom project has variables and situations you can’t predict, or that we didn’t account for when presenting our request to the development team so it was sort of a surprise when I not only was informed in a timely fashion about such situations, but I also got good suggestions that actually made sense.

I could tell that the team did their homework and presented options based on an understanding of what demographic we were going for. The primary tools used were Slack, Zoom and Pastel.

I was really impressed with the constant communication and overall enthusiasm and involvement with the project.

Nothing stands out that I feel would be worthy of mentioning. Of course there were minor bugs here and there during the development process but everything I pointed out was quickly fixed.
