We worked with Dan at Open House to create a promotional video that would showcase our town centre and highlight some of the major regeneration projects we’re working on.

Dan supported us through every stage, whether it was developing the concept, filming on location (including some stunning drone shots), and adding animated overlays to show the scale and ambition of the plans. The attention to detail and creative input really brought the vision to life.

The final video was polished, professional, and was better than what we were expecting. It’s already had a big impact in conversations with stakeholders, and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

The quality of the video was brilliant, but it was the combination of creativity, professionalism, and how easy they were to work with that really made them stand out. They felt like part of the team throughout the project.

Honestly, there’s very little we would have changed. If anything, having a bit more time at the start to explore different creative directions could have been useful but that was more down to our tight deadlines than anything on their side.

When working with Open House Pictures I was a 'Work Experience Coordinator' at Sheffield Hallam University, working alongside local organisations and academics to develop in-curriculum work experiences for students.

I worked alongside Open House on developing three case studies that would display how the Applied Projects scheme at SHU achieves the university's commitment to the Civic University Agenda.

My goal for the case studies was to introduce the concept of Applied Projects and display the benefits of students working within the local community. I wanted this introduction to be told first-hand by the stakeholders involved in the Applied Projects scheme (Students/Academics/ Organisations).

I looked at other organisations in the community, Open House had worked on some similar case studies within SHU previously which really matched the concept I was looking for.

I met with Joe and Dan to discuss my brief, and what I was hoping to achieve. They provided me with a proposal of different options for the case studies (this was really helpful so I could understand the different ways the case studies could look at the end of the production process). Once I selected my preferred option, I provided the dates and locations on which our stakeholders were available for filming.

Dan attended each of the filming dates with our stakeholders, he was great a putting their minds at rest and making them comfortable throughout filming (they all commented despite being initially nervous about featuring in the case studies how much they enjoyed the process).

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

I worked with Dan, who produced the case studies. Dan really understood the concept I was hoping to achieve, he was able to ask the right questions of our stakeholders throughout the filming process to really get the best answers from them.

The feedback process was very simple and straightforward, I received each of the videos and was able to provide written feedback (which was edited and sent back very quickly).

My line manager was very impressed with the videos produced and was really happy that the brief we had set was met! The civic team at SHU where really please with how the case studies displayed the commitment to the agenda which was the main aim of the case studies.

The project management at Open House was great, we had multiple locations for the filming of the case studies and Open House where more than happy to accommodate. Any questions I had throughout the process were answered very quickly.

Open House have a really great personable approach. They are really supportive of getting ideas off the ground and understanding what you want to achieve. As mentioned they were wonderful in ensuring all of our stakeholders were comfortable throughout the filming process which was really important to us.

We wanted a local film company that could meet the flexible needs of our project as it evolved but also had the expertise to guide us through the process and advise and inform our decisions.

1. Activity development with teachers, university academics, and industry partners. Open House Pictures provided CPD and expert input to support the development of the professionals at this stage.
2. Planning the filming and content of the videos, first an introduction to the professional and their workplace, then a studio activity with a presenter and then a video explaining the next steps.
3. Filming at the studio with the presenter and then in various locations.
4. Production and editing of the videos were done with edits being shared and feedback being contributed by our organisation, that process felt very well led by OHP, but also included our input and opinions.

We worked closely with Joe, and he is great communication, support, and advice. His skills and expertise are an asset and he is always keen to make processes smooth and efficient.

We are about to launch the video series and we'll be able to share the success and number of views soon. We've had several educators and professionals review the materials and the feedback has been excellent.

We started with an idea to promote our music business. They kindly found an excellent venue and helped set up for the days work. We helped with the filming on the day and all editing work was completed afterwards in a timely manner.

We worked with Joe, Dan and one assistant. They gave us constant feedback throughout the process and were informative and knowledgeable (especially as we didn’t have much experience in this area).

We filmed one overall video and a few separate individual videos. After sharing our video on social media sites, we were inundated with responses. So much so we’ve never needed the individual videos. We had a roughly 800% return on investment (and counting). It was certainly worth it!
