Designed to connect institutions, investors, and entrepreneurs, KIC’s mission is to transform the Commonwealth’s fragmented innovation landscape into a unified engine for venture-backed growth. Through initiatives such as the Keystone Pipeline, University Consortium, and Equity Accelerator, KIC is laying the foundation for a more connected and investable Pennsylvania where research, capital, and entrepreneurial talent can thrive together without leaving the state. As KIC plans to scale, clarity and consistency in its brand have become critical. Simultaneously, we engage with marketing and sales teams to gather crucial user feedback. 

This dual insight informs our strategic coordination with our UI/UX team and the development teams. Our primary goal is to ensure that app modifications are systematic and prioritized, effectively aligning with the stakeholders' vision and user expectations. In environments where diverse and often conflicting demands can lead to delays and a loss of focus, our role is crucial.

What challenge were you trying to address with NOVO?

We needed help designing a new website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started the project with a visual language exercise to develop the visual direction for our brand. We used images, colors, textures, and design styles to create a visual mood board that brought our brand aesthetic to life. This exercise gave us the confidence that NOVO fully understood our vision and was used as a visual reference point throughout the entire brand enhancement process. NOVO also provided a digital collection of relevant, inspirational images that reflected our brand, including photography and video inspiration to drive future content production.Then, NOVO designed two example web pages, each showcasing a distinct design direction. Each example included a few representative sections of a webpage to demonstrate layout, typography, and visual hierarchy. The purpose of these style tiles was to explore design concepts based on the approved visual language. After reviewing these with our team, NOVO refined and finalized a single style tile that established the creative foundation and visual direction for the website design moving forward.After that, NOVO created low-fidelity wireframes for each page outlined in the approved sitemap. These wireframes defined the content hierarchy, page structure, and overall user flow. Website-ready copy was incorporated to provide a clear sense of how information would appear and guide the user experience. The wireframes were reviewed and refined collaboratively to finalize the content flow and address any UX considerations. Once approved by our team, the wireframes served as the foundation for webpage design.NOVO designed both desktop and mobile versions for each webpage included in the approved sitemap. These designs were fully prepared for developer handoff, ensuring a smooth transition into development. Finalized designs included website-ready copy and all layout specifications, though final media content was not included in this scope. Each webpage design was reviewed and approved by our team prior to moving into development.Finally, NOVO conducted two rounds of QA review for each webpage developed. During these reviews, the development work was compared against the approved web designs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail. Any necessary revisions were documented and communicated clearly to the development team to ensure the final website matched the approved design and functioned as intended.

We've heard from lots of people in our community how impressed they are with the brand change. Our vehicle redesign looks awesome, and people see our trucks on the road all the time. We also had a lot of morale boosts; everyone loves our new gear.
