I needed help with the checkout part of building an ecommerce website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I explained the challenges we were facing, and they provided mockups, and solutions, to help streamline the checkout process. They helped identify the right apps for the process, as well, using Shopify apps and code.

I worked with Adam (Frontend Developer), Tom (CEO) most of the time. There were other people I interacted with occasionally.

I found them organically. I reached out to several agencies. I appreciated that they understood we were working with a limited budget, and I felt confident they could deliver what I wanted.

£9,000 (approximately $11,000).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April 2020 – July 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The website hasn’t launched yet. We have tested it, and all seems good. It looks great, and checks all the boxes of what I wanted. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but is functional for our customers, so I’m quite happy with their work. 

How did Noughts & Ones perform from a project management standpoint?

They were clear about deliverables and were receptive to feedback during the process. There was some confusion toward the end of the project, but it didn't cause us any major problems. For the most part, we communicated via Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They showed genuine interest in what we were doing and contributed great ideas. They didn’t try to scrape by with bare minimum effort. I was happy with their ability to identify the problems we needed to address, and provide appropriate solutions. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would’ve liked for them to hand off the website as soon as it was built so I could have a cooling down period to learn and work through it, and perhaps make changes. Most people want a fully finished website, as an end product, but I wanted a bit more autonomy with it.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Stay in close contact throughout the project. Transparency is important. Deal with issues immediately, and be honest about your opinion on their work.

I’m the CEO and co-founder of Novel Wines, a specialist retailer and wine merchant. We important different wines mainly from Central and Eastern Europe, with the idea of encouraging people to drink wine from lesser-known regions.

I built my website from scratch using Shopify, but I’m limited in my knowledge. I needed a developer to build a new website. Our conversion rate was fairly low at about 1.4% and I needed to reach my conversion goals of 2.5%.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Noughts & Ones changed the UX of the website and the layout of 280 product pages. They also made some of the Shopify app integrations a little more seamless so that the pages could load faster on mobile. The team worked in stages and did test runs on each one.

I chatted with Tom (Founding Director), but Adam (Senior Frontend Developer) did most of the work.

Noughts & Ones were recommended by a friend. I’d also seen some of the work they’d done, so I decided to give them go.

We worked together for three weeks, from November–December 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our conversion rate is regularly at about 2.3%, which is great. Additionally, the work they did to smooth out the experience for the user really helped. At the end of the engagement, I was very satisfied.

How did Noughts & Ones perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was great. We had a face-to-face brief to begin with and Tom sent us a schedule. Adam was great. When we discovered minute issues a month after going live, he would always jump back in and fix them at no extra charge, which was brilliant. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Noughts & Ones knew Shopify. I had no idea how to code liquid, so even though I could do the majority of the changes, any changes I did make were clunky. The team was able to jump straight into the liquid so that it worked seamlessly in the Shopify template.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not that I can think of. Their work has always been quick and impressive.

Be completely open and have a face-to-face conversation with Tom. He will take everything you say you want to achieve and put it down into practical elements that they can implement.

We’re an energy management consultancy that helps businesses procure the best energy for them, preferably green, renewable energy. We also help control consumption by measuring usage as well as undertaking sustainability projects. I’m the head of marketing here.

We needed a new website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We already had a website in place, but we were looking to revamp it. It didn’t need to offer new functionality, but we were hoping for a more streamlined, user-friendly interface through design templates. We have an in-house design team, so they worked collaboratively with the team to optimize our Squarespace site for design and functionality. 

From there, they built the website out for us. We provided the copy and imagery, but they undertook the technical implementation.

We had a project manager and a few other resources working on the project.

The project was handed off to me by my predecessor. However, our company typically searches for local companies with a strong portfolio. We also take recommendations into account.

We spent about £13,800 (approximately $17,400 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started with them in November 2019, and they wrapped up the site project in May 2020. They’re going to be employed for future work here, though.

We did an internal feedback survey, and it received almost entirely positive reviews. It makes us stand out against our competitors while being fresh and easy to use.

They have the patience of saints, putting up with plenty of chopping and changing from us. Every time we wanted to change something, they accommodated us and provided great customer service throughout.

We needed various improvements done to the website to make it clearer as well as a UX report.

We approached Noughts & Ones following on from a referral. They sat down with us and listened to what we were trying to achieve. We went through the current website and they made suggestions. They put the reports together. Work was broken it into projects, with each one costed ahead of approval. They were very helpful and fixing little bugs along the way at no extra cost. 

One of the features that they built was our size finder tool.

We used Slack, screen calls, face-to-face meetings, and Asana to manage the process. We had constant screenshots being sent between us and gave reviews, feedback, and updates prior to going live. They were very responsive and there were no issues with project management.

They came and took the time to sit down with us. They were very helpful with their Shopify knowledge.

We build a lot of websites for clients, but for a particular site, it needed to be in Squarespace and we hadn’t worked with that CMS before.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We supplied the initial design and the N&O helped us refine it fir Squarespace. From there, they developed the website using Squarespace, which was a straightforward process. Even though navigation is native to Squarespace, they worked with our client’s specific requirements to fulfill those needs.

Noughts & Ones did a great job. Even though our client had experience with Squarespace, they had never seen a site quite like this one before. They had a great experience.

Their communication was good. We used Slack and Google Hangouts a few times. Everything went very smoothly. Adam made everything really simple and straightforward for us and the client as well.

The way they pushed the limits with the platform was impressive—they were completely open to new things.

Website delivered on time and on budget, with all agreed pages/sections/apps installed and working.

Noughts & Ones' project management is fantastic. Excellent, clear and timely communication. If anything we felt we needed to slow down the project at points in the design process because the team were so efficient and we needed a little longer to discuss and calibrate internally.
