I’m a senior localization manager working for an online technology and solutions company. My job is to help our company expand globally by adapting all the content we create — websites, international campaigns, etc. — for foreign markets.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jootbox?

They’ve been working with a number of our teams to localize our website into German, Spanish, and Japanese. These are the languages we currently support, but when you publish content internationally, there are lots of technical issues around the expansion of text: forms of address in different countries, decimal points being utilized differently, and other linguistic characteristics that make the content feel authentic to an area. When we launched our website in these three languages, we had very limited engineering support.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us work through over a few hundred internationalization issues, enabling us to launch our website. The site is very big — over half-a-million words for the non-US markets. Ever since the launch, they’ve been fixing bugs and begun acting as an advisory board that focuses on internationalization strategy. They help us put in place processes that will address these issues long-term.

What is the team composition?

I’ve been working with two people on a regular basis, but many more people work to resolve our Jira tickets. Over the past few years, I’ve worked with around 6–7 people in total. Everyone is an engineer.

How did you come to work with Jootbox?

I can’t speak about the interviewing process because my engineering manager hired them, but our requirements were that the supplier had to have extensive experience with internationalization, localization, and launching international sites.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend around $6,000 per month.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since March 2021. Our current goal is to expand our collaboration to localize our site into other languages.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve had a number of bugs and issues that we hand over via Jira tickets, and there are clear turnaround times written into our SLA. I get a report from Dropbox every two weeks that sums up the bugs they’ve fixed and the hours they’ve spent working on them. They’ve fixed over 95% of the bugs we’ve seen.

How did Jootbox perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t use any specific tools, other than Jira.

What did you find most impressive about them?

After two years of working with Jootbox, I can confirm that they have the experience they said they had. They cover German, Spanish, and Japanese, and Japanese is one of the most difficult from a localization and internationalization standpoint.

Their expertise and their flexibility when it comes to internationalization and localization stand out. For example, we have global campaigns that we launch quite quickly, and time frame that Jootbox has for fixing all of these issues — and there can be around 50 — is extremely tight. They had 24 hours to fix 50 issues during the last campaign, some of which were quite serious.

Regarding flexibility, we have a number of issues that are linguistic, and not technical. As web engineers, linguistics is out of their area of expertise, but they’ve been able to help out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a bit more proactive about measuring the progress of their work. I went to them with questions about how to measure the success of the work, and a company of their size should be more proactive about how to measure success and customer satisfaction.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Even if you come with a clear idea of what you need, utilize Jootbox’s expertise and ask questions about the best way to do things. If you simply throw them an idea, they’ll come back to you with a solution that’s completely different than what you envisioned, and that’s a good thing.

What we found impressive was the great working relationship we were able to establish very soon after starting the project. The flow of information has been smooth and we've always known we could trust them with the project.

We started the work by conducting discovery phase and identifying examples of what we wanted - based on that Jootbox worked on wireframes, which were finally translated into designs. After the UX and UI phase they have conducted the implementation of the Front-end and Back-end layers.

Jootbox has assigned a fully dedicated project team to our project. The team consisted of an Art Director, Fullstack Developer and a Project Manager who was responsible for a day to day communication.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since the website has been designed and implemented according to the best UX and tech practices, we have already seen a huge increase in the performance and SEO optimization of our website.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The team included a Project Manager, who was making sure that the whole process is smooth and that the final results meet our expectations. We’ve used Trello as a project management tool. Other than that, there was a lot of direct communication.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The project was completed quite fast. They’ve produced excellent designs with a user- and performance-oriented approach. Everyone we worked with had been curious, self-driven, and structured. It seems that they are always going the extra mile to make sure that their Clients are fully satisfied.

We selected Jootbox after several rounds of interviews and tests that required extensive programming knowledge. We were looking for someone who was easy to communicate with, had flexible hours, and diligent. Chris and his team met all of those requirements.

Scope of work included continuous maintenance of pewpewtactical.com. Work entailed setting up Google Optimize to test various front-end changes to the website, creating new landing pages where needed, creating page templates in Wordpress, making visual changes, etc. Expertise needed was experience with Wordpress, PHP, Javascript, and other programming languages that is required to maintaining a Wordpress blog.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Chris and his team were able to follow instructions and deliver projects in a very timely manner. Every task we add to our shared task board would be completed within a week or less. Some projects that were assigned last minute would also be completed very timely.

We used Trello and Slack to communicate and assign monthly tasks. The team has been very easy to work with and communicate with.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their communication stood out compared to all the other companies we worked with and interviewed. If there was ever any questions about a task, they would communicate with us right away to get clarification. Their expertise in their work also stood out. The entire team is very knowledgeable and never came across something they couldn't fix or find a solution for.

I hired Jootbox to assist with front and back end web development, AWS, graphic design, and UI/UX design. My goal was to completely offload the development while I took care of the marketing and so far it has been going extremely well.

A referral from a trusted friend and family member. After a few calls and smaller projects showing me just how much attention to detail they pay and how well they communicate I was sold.

Connexity, a retail performance marketing company, hired Joyride Consulting to build a new CMS-driven website to represent their refreshed corporate branding and positioning. We brought in Jootbox as our development partners for the project.

To provide a CMS-driven (WordPress), responsive corporate website, that reflects the new brand identity and positioning. To have a clear user experience and message for prospective clients, talent, and current employees.

Jootbox came highly recommended to me via a developer partner I have worked with on other projects. After evaluating and interviewing several candidates to partner on this project, I was most impressed with Jootbox's capabilities and approach.

Using a Kanban approach, we collaborated with Jootbox, provided them with specifications, designs, and assets in which they built the entire Connexity web app on a WordPress CMS to allow the client to maintain their own content moving forward. There was integration into the client's CRM to allow Connexity's business development team to follow up with prospects.

For this project, I primarily worked with two developers and a technical project manager. For some smaller tasks, Jootbox took it upon themselves to provide design resources when needed to keep the process moving forward which was extremely helpful.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

As a "consult-agency", a true sign of success is when a client is not only satisfied with a successful launch but wants to continue doing work with you. In this case, Connexity has follow-up projects they are pursuing with us and I will continue partnering with Jootbox on these.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

For this project, I served as the client strategist/account manager and worked very closely with Jootbox's project manager from start to finish. Chris (the PM and I had weekly check-ins and used Trello and Slack to communicate on all the daily project details, questions, etc, with the team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Not only are they outstanding developers, but Jootbox also has a an easy-going "can-do" attitude that you don't come across commonly. These guys don't drop the ball and consistently came with ideas/solutions for any challenges we faced. They are true partners in every sense of the word.

Our API integrates with many third party services to keep our clients working productively together. Jootbox was instrumental in shipping our Slack App. Thanks to their solution we were able to notify teams with relevant company updates to keep them in sync.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

When you're shipping features to a large app, ensuring code quality consistently with new features is the top concern. Not only has their work not had any issues, they've actually increased our test coverage and provided a greater degree of confidence. Our customers are enjoying increased engagement from their work and we are enjoying the relief that comes from robustly tested and Q/A'ed work.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We started off projects with high level descriptions of what we were looking to accomplish. Once we had a general idea if it was a good idea to collaborate we send Jootbox our user stories, had a little back and forth with their knowledgable developer and they were ready to begin work. In less than 24 hours the had a pull request waiting for our review!

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Aside from the obvious skill of the development team, the professionalism across the board stood out the most. Even the team members that don't usually spend much time with clients were communicative and easy to work with. In addition they were on top of the projects we sent them and consistently asked for feedback at important milestones.

Overall no, they've been extremely flexible around our unusual distributed team's process. Also they're English was exceptional across the board, so much so I would forget I wasn't talking with native English speakers.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We didn’t have a clear vision of what we wanted to be presented on the site. Jootbox offered an end-to-end solution from the conception and ideation phase. In the beginning, we had creative workshops where we created wireframes and mockups. After that, there was a UX/UI phase before the development of the CMS and frontend began.

Through the creative workshops, we were able to define our business needs and potential customers. Based on their advice, we decided on WordPress because it is an open-source solution. Since it’s a corporate platform, we’ve added a virtual 3D map of the investment of the buildings that we build. Users can see their future slots and can choose through different ones.
