Using Sketch and InVision, Newwaves Solutions developed wireframes while focusing on user experience, ultimately resulting in a distinctive and visually appealing platform accessible to all users.

Upon completing the interface mapping and operational flow of the app, we progressed into the development phase. At present, Newwaves Solutions is utilizing native programming languages to construct both iOS and Android versions of the platform. Upon completion and release, users will be able to download the app and commence our comprehensive registration process.

We delivered a fabulous project to our client, who was satisfied with the outcome and validated our technology - this played an important role for us. In addition, they could integrate our technology into theirs, which was key to the engagement’s success.

Their team delivered everything on time and within budget. Although there was a lack of efficient communication between our developers and the Newwave Solutions team initially, we solved that.

In addition, they could make more resources available for us whenever we were under time pressure, which was necessary due to the enormous deadline our customers set up for us. We communicated through Skype and tracked tasks through Jira.

Our project was to develop a MVP to help users connect with caregivers with a certain specialty. The goal was to develop a functional MVP for ios and android and web app, with minimal bugs.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Found the vendor on Upwork. The agency seemed to have credentials in the development area, and that they had a large team for the technology we wanted to build on. Seems like the expertise was there. We had an initial trial for $7600. The developer we worked with seemed to understand the vision and was a seasoned developer who was also willing to work on our US timeline. After signing the contract, we received a new set of developers with less experiences.

We wanted to use Flutter because of its agility and flexibility to deploy across multiple platforms (app, web). The agreement was to develop the app first then roll it out to web app. The agency used flutter 1.0 which did not include web app capability. Then when it upgraded to 2.0 to attempt to roll out the web app, it created tremendous bug issues (the previous version seemed to have a great deal of incompatibility which was extremely challenging to fix.)

It took them at least 4 months before sharing with us the news that the upgrade (which we were not aware of the upgrade) was the reason to create lots of bugs, and they would need 4 months to fix them. At this point, we are deeply invested in this project. And their approach to communication and lack of transparency left us with a super buggy product.

Fluctuates at times, but we dealt with about 5 main people: CEO, CTO, Sr. dev, BA, PM, etc

Our app was constantly buggy. Some features would work for a couple months, then the next version rolled out, it stopped working. It was as if there was not version control. We have gotten 1 star reviews quite a few times because of that. It took 6 months for the team to tell us the web app we wanted to develop was not feasible because it required an upgrade from Flutter 1.0 to 2.0. It created tons of bugs. The last couple months before us severing ties were spent on fixing bugs for the most part. Limited new features that were on the original plan were deployed.

Communication was not the easiest. Language barrier is one thing, which we could overcome; another thing is the tools. Every new BA has a different way to track bugs. We had used Trello, excel, Jira, you name it. At the end, we were still unable to track them well. Every new BA, we had to spend a few weeks to help retrain them and get them up to speed.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were dedicated in the beginning, the quality was as expected for about 6 months, then it started to derail. High member turnover, limited documentation & knowledge transfer (we had to constantly re-educate their new teams), then the bugs started to happen from upgrade of technology, without informing us. If you were to engage them, engage them for the first few months in the development journey. They may be more applicable to projects like staff augmentation or a quick prototype. Definitely not a long term partner as we've learned our lesson.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Be upfront with your shortcomings. Don't hide them. It created tons of tension between us and had imposed a lot of unnecessary stress for everyone. When we transitioned, we were left with a long list of issue logs for our new team to fix, and with very limited documentation and not a full list of credentials (we had to recreate them).
