We've had multiple New Wave developers integrated into our teams for some years now - either on a project or ongoing basis for different clients we work with. They are fully committed to embedding with our team, and bring valuable skills and experience to allow us to flexibly scale up and down to meet our clients project demands. They deliver code support as well as being part of project teams delivering Ruby on Rails projects

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We measure the utlisation and code quality of our developers via different metrics, and have always been confident New Wave Developers meet the required metrics for us to continue to the relationships. They also enabled us to ship more work faster for our clients, ultimately meaning more revenue for the business. Another key outcome for us is the feedback from our core team about how great it is to work with them, and that they contribute to our pro-active and connected culture where it's more than just getting the task done, it's about enjoying the journey.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

For the vast majority of tasks delivery was on time and to a quality we require, both in a project style and also when New Wave staff were part of agile teams.

When there was the rare ocassion where delivery wasn't to our satisfaction, the New Wave team engaged constructively to offer solutions. We accept delivery isn't always perfect, especially with complex technology, but New Wave Devs was great at working with us through any problem.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Being based in the Ukraine we were working with New Wave when the conflict with Russia started, which has understandably been a huge challenge to everyone in the country. Their resilience to work via generators, attend meetings in the dark due to rolling blackouts, and still hit deadlines in that environment was remarkable, and ultimately connected us to working with them more.

Are there any areas for improvement or something New Wave Devs could have done differently?

For a minority of New Wave developers that have worked with us, it becomes apparent after a few months that the project isn't right for them. I feel New Wave in those instances kept trying to make it work, when it was most likely going to fail - my feedback would be to not to keep trying to find a solution if the person isn't right for the role.

I'm the founder and CEO of a tech company developing a mobile app for finding new friends by participating in activities in users' local areas.

What challenge were you trying to address with New Wave Devs?

We needed an iOS developer.

What was the scope of their involvement?

New Wave Devs provides us with a full-time iOS developer. We did an interview and asked about their technical skills. From there, they dove into our codebase. We had an existing app, and New Wave Devs has continued working on it. 

They've added features like user profile registration and a photo gallery. The app matches users based on their interests, values, and preferences. New Wave Devs has also helped integrate Sendbird, a third-party solution for chatting. The team participates in discussions to decide our approach to development.

They continually add new functions and improve the UX. We'll be releasing a new design, and they've been working on developing the latest version for the past month. After the design is released, New Wave Devs will focus on an event/activity function to ensure users can meet new friends in a group. 

What is the team composition?

We work with one consultant from New Wave Devs.

How did you come to work with New Wave Devs?

We found them on Upwork. We interviewed a candidate from New Wave Devs and told him what kind of technology we used and how we worked. He didn't need much more information, so we started working with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend around $4,000–$4,500 a month. In total, we've spent less than $50,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Of all our developers, we're most happy with the one New Wave Devs has supplied. They're independent, efficient, detail-oriented, and thorough. They do their own testing, so any bugs are found during the testing phase, avoiding errors on the live app. Overall, we're super happy with the quality they've delivered.

Our app is live, we have almost 30,000 users, and our metrics are pretty good. People are using the app for the purpose we want, and we have a good rating on the App Store. 

How did New Wave Devs perform from a project management standpoint?

They're very good with deadlines. Their time estimates are good, and they do whatever they need to meet them. We mostly communicate via Slack. We also use Twilio and Jira for project management. Overall, we haven't had any negative experiences with the team. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I'm impressed by how well New Wave Devs understand our needs. In the beginning, we were quite clear that we wanted a senior developer, and they didn't disappoint. All the candidates they presented were senior-level. Additionally, the team is pretty good at following up. They send me an email every month to check if we're happy and if there's anything we need, and it's easy to communicate with them. Overall, they're very professional.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they haven't disappointed me. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend you have an in-house tech wizard. Since I'm not technical, having an internal CTO who can help me communicate with New Wave Devs is quite important.

I am the Head of Engineering at POM Safe. At POM Safe our mission is to provide safety to all through use of a small iOT device and integrated mobile application. We partner with schools, hospitals, and direct with consumers as well to empower a safer world through the use of smart technologies.

For what projects/services did your company hire New Wave Devs, and what were your goals?

We were looking to move away from traditional iOS and Android development to be able to use a "build-once" framework. We decided we wanted to build a brand new app experience using Flutter. We needed expert Flutter developers who could help us build iteratively and quickly.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We searched online and decided to use New Wave Devs because of the great talent they were able to connect us with. We also really like that they are there to help with any issues and support both sides of the agreement. They provide safety and assurance in that if a developer were to no longer be available they will help us to quickly backfill to avoid interruptions. They always respond quickly and the developers we contract through them seem to really like working for New Wave Devs.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

We have aggressive timelines and started with an initial walkthrough of the prototype and began to refine user stories. We started sprinting almost immediately and our Flutter developers have worked incredibly hard to get all of the screens built. We are now in an integration phase and continue to be impressed by their diligence, aptitude, and dedication to the project and team. We will have an MVP release shortly and hope to continue to work with them for years to come.

We have 2 resources from New Wave Devs and are currently looking to bring on one more. The current resources hold Lead Developer and Senior Developer positions.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Almost exactly 3 months ago we began this process and we now have a nearly complete application. The developers are both excellent communicators and have delivered above and beyond our expectations.

We primarily use JIRA and Slack. The developers are fully integrated into our full stack development team and participate in all scrum ceremonies.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was impressed by the quality of talent & also the dedication they put in. This has not been my usual experience with contracted engineers. I also was very impressed with Roman (CEO) in how he promptly addresses and handles any confusion. He seems to be a good leader who truly cares about the people who work for him.

Wing is a new, digital-first US-based phone carrier that was created by people sick and tired of the tyrants of telecom. We offer a mobile experience for the new age, giving control back to the customers and making the carrier experience simpler, more transparent, and modern.

We were looking for a talented UI Designer to create amazing user experiences. The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior UI skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artifacts and transform them into beautiful, intuitive, and functional user interfaces.

These were the responsibilities assigned:

1. UI designer will be responsible for the graphic creation of user interfaces of mobile and web experiences for Wing users

2. Work closely with designers, web & app developers to conceptualize and prototype interface functionality, look and feel. Create conceptual wireframes, user flow diagrams, and high-fidelity prototypes to solidify design direction and plans.

3. Apply and maintain a consistent art style throughout the entire project interface and communicate designs in a technical manner with web & app developers

We worked directly with a UX/UI Designer, their representatives and have closely coordinated with the CEO as he wants to ensure the job will be successful.
