Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of Chimney.ai, a real estate recommendation website. We founded the startup almost three years ago; our focus is to help home buyers choose houses that are better matched for them in terms of location, price, and features.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoxi?

We needed help with website development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our first project with Neoxi was a price prediction engine. We provided them with the data and information, and they created an AI engine for us. 

The second project is on frontend and backend development in Figma. They’re working with our UX designer and the previous team, but they're not actively developing. Neoxi is also moving us to better and more scalable cloud options and developing a mobile version for us.

Additionally, they’re moving our servers to AWS and cleaning the code to make it functional. We’re using Node.js in the backend and React on the frontend. So far, we’ve gone through the MVP. When they’re done, we’ll launch the website. 

What is the team composition?

We work with two people for the AI project: the AI scientist and the AI developer. For the current project, we’re working with a frontend and a backend developer.

How did you come to work with Neoxi?

We were stuck with the work and couldn’t find the right company to come and help us. They reached out to me on LinkedIn, and we interviewed them to see their level of expertise. We were pleasantly surprised when I saw what a talented team they had; we were impressed.

How much have you invested with them?

In total, we’ve spent between €10,000–€50,000 (approximately $9,800–$49,000 USD) on both projects.

What is the status of the engagement?

We started working with them in February 2021 and are still engaged with them for more projects. They’re also in charge of maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website hasn’t been launched yet; we think it’ll be ready in 2–5 months. For the AI project, our best estimate for error of their model was 5%. Neoxi gave us 3%–4% in some cases. Additionally, we were looking at another year of development before they joined. They’ve decreased our launch significantly by about 60%.

Overall, they’ve beaten the targets that we’ve given them. It’s more than we expected.

How did Neoxi perform from a project management standpoint?

Their management is professional. They listen to our needs and bring the right people for the job. They’ve also been relatively on time. There were areas we thought would take a week; however, Neoxi recommended rewriting the sections, which took them a little longer.

We use Linear and Figma to track and manage the project. We communicate via Google Meet and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to track the project is impressive. Although they took it up halfway through the project, Neoxi was able to get on track.

Are there any areas they could improve?

If they continue to have the same level of development expertise, it's good. We have no complaints about their work.

Any advice for potential customers?

The more detail you give your project, the more relevant people they can bring in. Tell them exactly what you need, what you have in mind, and what you try to achieve; leave the rest to them.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Neoxi team had great experience in designing web applications and their price was very competitive for the quality of work they offered

A series of discovery calls with different stakeholders to understand the need, providing a rough wireframe design and iterate on it by seeking feedback from stakeholders, and finally providing a final design with a complete proposal breakdown for implementation of the design

Four people. Two UI/UX designers with one software engineer and their project manager

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

They did a fantastic job. First they provided the design according to the contract and it was on time and as described. The final document included a detailed design wireframe with their implementation estimate cost and time. There was limited friction working with the Neoxi team and they were very easy to work with and very understanding.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was very easy to communicate with and he was very accessible. I would usually ping him using his personal number and he would immediately get back to me. Their design team would make it also easy to give and receive feedback. They had proposed a workflow that we could review the design materials and provide feedback which was seemless

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Quality of work, competitive price, very customer oriented, and high ethics

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They could provide different quotes for different tier of engineers they have to be even more competitive

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoxi?

We hired them to develop our MVPs and to transfer them to our production-level solution.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neoxi developed an MVP. The solution is a customer dashboard, including the admin panel that enables us to control the information and organize online ordering. First, we developed the concept, then Neoxi helped us with development on the back- and frontend, with Python as one of the technologies used. Although we had a pre-MVP, they developed the software from scratch, starting with the structure.

The team also helped us connect this dashboard to our management system. Currently, they provide maintenance for us in case of bugs, and they’ll build the production-level solution.

What is the team composition?

The team composition has varied; at one point, 10 people from Neoxi were involved. However, we work with an average of four people at a time.

How did you come to work with Neoxi?

I knew them through my friendship with one of their teammates. I was introduced to Neoxi’s team and found them to be very talented. We did a really short project with them that was very satisfying, so we moved forward with them for this project. 

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent around $45,000 CAD (approximately $35,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our engagement with Neoxi has been very successful. We have our own project management that sets KPIs and a timeline, and Neoxi has met all the KPIs. Although we've had some hard times fixing bugs, the quality of their work hasn't been compromised. Additionally, they're very cost-effective. 

How did Neoxi perform from a project management standpoint?

Considering our startup status, they've handled the project very well. We mainly use Google Meet to communicate and Google Sheets and Jira for project management. Having clarity in communication and trust built with the team are also very important for us. Overall, the way that they communicate and handle the project is very good. Everything has gone well and within a reasonable timeline.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neoxi's biggest strengths are their responsibility and the variety of skills they have in their talent pool. I know they can find good talent to develop whatever I need, which gives me ease of mind. Since they have their internal project management, I don't need to invest in project management for small jobs, which is a huge help. Additionally, their prices are great. I've built a really good relationship with them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

At the beginning of the project, they weren't familiar with Jira and were using Slack instead. Although they handled our request to use Jira very well, I would suggest they handle more professional management systems to help improve their performance.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would suggest breaking down the project and increasing communication. You should know what you want by the end, so set up your KPIs and deliverables ahead of time. Also, I recommend having a very professional relationship with Neoxi. 

Most requirements from entrepreneurs are vague, and it causes conflict between what they're thinking and what the developer is thinking. In order to eliminate this miscommunication, it's better to set up all the requirements beforehand. Spend a little bit more time upfront, and even if you start a bit later, you'll move forward much faster than if you rush in the beginning.
