I’m the owner and CEO of a home decor e-commerce company.

We needed assistance with e-commerce development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They did all the design and back- and frontend development. The site was developed in Magento 1.9. They merged the site with our CRM system and other third-party tools.

There were about three or four people including a project manager, designer, and a few developers.

I think I received a recommendation.

We invested around $30,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April 2018–November 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They had excellent project management and were available 24/7 for website maintenance and assistance. Their development was good, any qualms we have are with Magento, not their team. 

How did MOJAM perform from a project management standpoint?

They had clear plans, and if they ever had to delay a deadline, they communicated that to us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed with their 24/7 availability. They also provided accurate time estimates and pricing. If they estimated that a task would take 10 hours, that is what they would charge us for, even if it took them longer. 

Are there any areas they could improve? 

My only issues were with Magento itself.

Be sure you know what you want from the project.

Visual Society is an e-commerce platform photographers use to sell photos and grow business online. As the founder, I balance my time between software and business development.

For what projects/services did your company hire MOJAM?

I hired MOJAM to help optimize our existing backend codebase and build new software features. They first worked on implementing a new SCA-compliant checkout process for both our user subscription plans as well as product purchases (one-off purchases). They have assisted with everything from database improvements to software architecture changes to testing to bug fixes.

What were your goals for this project?

The goals for this project is to deliver a stable product experience to our users.

How did you select this vendor?

I posted a job to UpWork and they were the top candidate based on past experience.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They reengineered parts our backend codebase related to the buying process, subscription purchases, product pricing, API requests to vendors, database changes, messaging and more. We collaborated over Slack and Asana. They were quick to understand the complicated project codebase and suggest ways to improve it, which ultimately improved the product for our users.

What was the team composition?

I was project lead and interfaced directly with both a MOJAM project manager and their lead developer. I assigned tasks in Asana to the project manager and the project manager communicated with the developer. Eventually, I started working directly with the developer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Before working with MOJAM, only about 50% of checkouts were successful largely due to many different edge cases in the checkout process. Now, 100% of checkouts are successful. They also helped us implement SCA compliance, which transformed our business from a US-only business to one with a global presence.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I first worked directly with a MOJAM project manager through Slack and Asana. Their PM then assigned tasks to one of their developers. Eventually, I started working more directly with their developer to streamline communications. Both the PM and developer were very knowledgeable in the technologies we use.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed with their vast knowledge of best practices related to e-commerce software development. They implemented rigid development architecture that made our codebase easier to work with, and fewer bugs for our users.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Timezone issues (we are based in US, they are in Ukraine) was an issue at times. This affected communications at times and caused delays.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were to develop working, high quality plugins within a reasonable time.

How did you select this vendor?

We found Mojam on Upwork and hired them after discussing the project online. At the same time we were travelling to Ukraine for a conference, where we met the owner of Mojam in real life. We discussed the rest of the projects and eventually decided to do more business with them.

With the use of plugins, it was easier for our customers to install and use our SaaS product.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The speed in which they can take on a project, communicate and start working on it impressed us. Also the delivery was fast and good.

Expand the team and grow, they can for sure do that!

We put a job up on upwork and got multiple people to do the same task. We assessed each one on communication, responsiveness and quality of work. Mojam nailed all three aspects of this approach.

The team was awesome. They responded very well to our requests and actively participated on designing the best architecture.

Having a project manager on their side really helped to make this effective. The communication issues were non-existant because of this.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The quality and the cost. I felt they really delivered well on a scope that suited our budget

Some UX areas could be improved but we'll bring in that expertise for the next project.
