Mobius Studios was hired to design and develop a complete smart anti-theft zipper lock solution combining a mechanical locking system with Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity.

The scope of work included research and discovery, concept development, industrial/product design, CAD modeling, PCB design, firmware architecture, engineering validation, technical documentation, mobile application development, physical prototyping, sample production, and the development of the complete retail packaging.

The main deliverables included: Research and discovery documentation Product concepts and design sketches 3D CAD / STEP files PCB schematics and Gerber files Firmware architecture Detailed engineering drawings and BOM Mechanical and electronic integration files Mobile application development for device connectivity and control A fully assembled physical prototype Functional product samples for validation Complete retail packaging / product box ready for presentation

The project was structured around the development of a complete market-ready product, from initial concept through engineering, software integration, prototyping, samples and final packaging.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project did not achieve the expected measurable outcomes and did not reach a market-ready stage.

VOLTEK invested around €16,450 paid to Mobius Studios for hardware design, biometric programming and prototyping, plus approximately €2,000 paid as an advance for the companion mobile application.

Several key deliverables remained incomplete: Firmware was expected by June 22, 2026. A version was delivered, but it was outdated and missing validation elements, preventing us from testing the new functionalities properly.

The product casing was expected by June 30, 2026 and was not delivered. The companion mobile application was not delivered.

The complete functional sample was not delivered. The final retail packaging was not delivered in a complete market-ready form.

Despite multiple follow-ups, Mobius Studios stopped responding. VOLTEK sent a formal notice in early July 2026, with a final deadline of July 9, 2026, but the project remained blocked. As a result, there was no functional prototype ready for manufacturing, no validated final firmware, no usable companion application, and no commercial launch.

The measurable result at the end of the engagement was therefore a project that remained incomplete despite substantial payments and repeated attempts to obtain the outstanding deliverables.

Project management was one of the main issues during the engagement.

Several key deliverables were not provided on time. The firmware was expected by June 22, 2026, but the version delivered was incomplete and could not be properly validated. The product casing was expected by June 30, 2026 and was not delivered. The companion mobile application was also not delivered.

We repeatedly followed up with Mobius Studios to obtain updates and the missing deliverables. Communication became increasingly difficult, and by mid-July 2026 the company had stopped responding entirely. VOLTEK ultimately sent a formal notice with a final deadline in early July 2026, but the project remained blocked and the outstanding items were still not delivered.

In our experience, deadlines were not respected, communication deteriorated over time, and our requests for completion and clarification were not addressed satisfactorily.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What initially impressed us was Mobius Studios’ ability to present a complete end-to-end product development offering.

They appeared capable of handling industrial design, mechanical engineering, electronics, firmware, prototyping and application development within the same project.

Their initial proposal was detailed and gave the impression of a structured process with clear milestones, technical deliverables and a path from concept to a functional market-ready product.

Unfortunately, the execution did not ultimately match the quality and completeness of the initial presentation.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Mobius Studios could have done differently?

The main areas for improvement would be project management, communication, deadline management and completion of agreed deliverables.

Mobius Studios should have provided realistic timelines and respected the agreed milestones. When delays occurred, they should have communicated proactively, explained the reasons, and provided revised delivery dates instead of allowing the project to remain blocked.

They also should have ensured that the firmware, casing, mobile application, functional sample and final packaging were completed and properly validated before considering the relevant milestones finished.

Most importantly, communication should not have stopped while major deliverables were still outstanding. 

Even when a project encounters technical difficulties, the client needs regular updates, clear accountability and a concrete recovery plan. In our case, better transparency, stronger quality control and consistent communication could have prevented the situation from escalating.

They were also notably supportive and flexible in responding to our needs. Even after the final invoice had been paid, Mobius continued to assist by refining an additional grease-pouring shot to enhance the quality of our final product video. This willingness to go above and beyond showed a genuine commitment to the project’s success and to delivering the highest-quality visuals possible.

While the overall experience with Mobius Studios was very positive, there are is one minor area where the process could be even smoother in future collaborations. More proactive check-ins during key stages of the project, such as early modeling, texturing, or animation drafts, would help ensure alignment before assets move into final rendering.

After the final approval of the single worksteps Mobius rendered the 3D data in high resolution format and build the final video.

Our sales saw a boost of 51% on the first month of implementation of the POS system, we also noticed an enhanced scrutiny of employees and evaluation of KPIs utilising the admin dashboard.
