SideQuests is a productivity and task-management app, and we brought in MarsDevs to deliver the product end to end. The engagement covered the full platform rather than a single piece of it: a cross-platform Flutter mobile app for iOS and Android, a companion web application, and the supporting backend and deployment infrastructure.

The clearest outcome was a complete, launch-ready platform: mobile and web both reached production quality together, rather than one lagging behind the other.

Clean handover — the codebase was in a state our team could pick up and extend without a rework phase

The result was a product we could take to launch directly, which is not the norm with outsourced full-platform builds.

Project management was one of the stronger parts of the engagement. We ran a shared WhatsApp group for anything immediate, plus a weekly standup for progress, blockers, and upcoming priorities. That combination worked well — the standup kept the project structured and predictable, while the group meant urgent questions never sat waiting for the next scheduled call.

Delivery was on time. Milestones landed when they said they would, and where something needed more time, we heard about it early rather than at the deadline.

Responsiveness was consistently good. Messages were answered quickly, feedback was picked up without needing to be repeated, and change requests were absorbed into the plan without derailing the schedule. We never had to chase for status updates — visibility into progress was there throughout.

Overall, the engagement required very little management overhead on our side, which is what you want from a full-platform build.

What stood out most was how little they needed from us to move. Most vendors on a full-platform build require constant direction; MarsDevs took the product goal, made sensible technical calls on their own, and came back with work that held together across mobile and web. That combination of technical judgment and genuine ownership is rare, and it's the reason the project stayed on schedule without us having to manage it closely.

Are there any areas for improvement or something MarsDevs could have done differently?

Nothing significant. If anything, slightly more documentation alongside the handover would have been a nice-to-have, but it wasn't something that held us up.

I’m an executive for SaaS platform that provides services to hospitals and universities.

We hired MarsDevs for staff augmentation.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our technical team normally takes care of onboarding the developers from MarsDevs to work on our product. We provide them with documentation on our processes and how we work, and then give them tasks and training for different projects we need to build.

MarsDevs provides us with full stack developers, but our platform specifically uses a Python and Django framework on the backend and Vue.js on the frontend. The platform the developers are working on includes functionalities like scheduling, performance evaluations, and automation of the performance evaluations for employees and trainees.
It also has modules for onboarding, logging hours, and curriculum development. The SaaS platform is used by many employees at various hospitals and covers about 15 different modules. Occasionally, the developers coordinate with our technical team for architecture discussions, but they usually just handle development.

We work with four full stack developers and work directly with the CEO of MarsDevs.

Overall, we’ve been happy with their quality of work, and when we need someone new, MarsDevs has been able to find someone reliable.

How did MarsDevs perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t have any specific measurements for project management, but whenever we’ve needed something in a certain amount of time, they’ve been able to deliver, even if that means working outside of regular hours. We use Jira and GitLab for project management and communicate via Zoom, Slack, and Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We have a great relationship with MarsDevs and know they care. They collaborate with our developers, understand our requirements, and we have effective communication with them. We’ve appreciated the personal relationships we’ve been able to build. Their CEO is also a very experienced developer. We’ve appreciated working with him because when we have technical needs, he’s always been able to handle them, which we think is an added value.

They’re a smaller team, so they might not be the best fit for larger companies.

I would give this advice when working with any offshore development team, but just make sure that you have proper internal processes and team members to manage the work. Having an internal review process and architecting is always helpful to ensure that everything is moving in the right direction.

If something slips or changes, you hear it from us early, not at the deadline.

We run projects in an agile, sprint-based way, usually in one or two week cycles. Every engagement starts with a kickoff where we align on goals, scope, and success criteria, then break the work into a prioritized backlog. From there the flow is steady and repeatable. We plan each sprint together, build and test in short cycles, and demo working software at the end of every sprint so you see real progress, not just status updates. We use tools like Jira or Trello to track tasks, and every client has visibility into the board at any time.
