Goal: Omnichannel Awareness and Increased Traffic to Website The goal was to focus the majority of advertising dollars and strategy creating more awareness of our agency with Massachusetts employers and begin a pipeline of potential new partners to hire qualified candidates who are legally blind. 

90% of the budget was targeted to the tactics and channels that would best reach these employers across digital and traditional channels they are most likely to consume. This campaign garnered a high number of overall impressions, clicks, and direct leads to the landing page form. 

The remaining 10% of the budget was used to do a smaller, almost exclusively digital awareness campaign, focused on the legally blind population in Massachusetts. The campaign made a significant impact in the market based on Impressions and Clicks, as well as calls to the answering service.

Allison and Sarah were terrific to work with. Everything was delivered ahead of time. We met virtually every other week, and they kept us updated via email in between. The creative for this campaign was not created around our target audience, but the skilled team at Marketing Doctor was able to make a few edits and get us excellent results.

What challenge were you trying to address with Marketing Doctor?

Our previous service provider couldn’t provide us with marketing for all the new media that was out there. However, we learned that Marketing Doctor had a specialized team for digital and traditional marketing, so we sought their help to handle our entire efforts in that regard.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We work with Marketing Doctor every year to market our show. Their efforts include the following:

• Social media marketing (SMM) on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter.
• Search engine marketing (SEM) on Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
• Traditional media marketing on TV and radio.
• Print advertising.
• Email marketing.

We particularly leverage TikTok marketing during the weekend the show takes place to attract more viewers. Moreover, Marketing Doctor is in charge of creating the content for all our different campaigns, answering comments on social media, and creating contests on Facebook for engagement.

We’ve also worked together to create a content calendar so that we can be on the same page. As for email marketing, Marketing Doctor creates email templates and automates our email campaigns as needed.

We work with 10–12 teammates from Marketing Doctor every year. We have a lead project manager overseeing the project, and we also work with specialized teams within their company in charge of different areas. Moreover, their team also includes analysts.

How did you come to work with Marketing Doctor?

We found them through a referral. When I reached out to Marketing Doctor, we found out that we were a great fit together. Additionally, we knew they were a local business owned by women, which we really liked, so we hired them to support them.

How much have you invested with them?

When we started working with Marketing Doctor, our yearly marketing budget was around $54,000. Now, we spend up to $87,000. In total, we’ve spent around $550,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together with Marketing Doctor, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’ve chaired our shows throughout 2014–2022, and I’ve noticed a significant increase in our annual income and yearly visitors. Between 2014 and 2015, our profit was around $180,000; in 2020, our profit was around $300,000; and in 2022, our profit was around $423,000. As for our yearly visitors, we had around 34,000 people coming in the doors in 2014, whereas, in 2022, we achieved over 45,000 visitors.

Those results are directly related to our yearly show. Still, we’ve also seen a significant increase in our website traffic, as well as around a 20% increase in brand awareness and social media engagement.

Marketing Doctor is very efficient and organized, and they always stay on budget. Moreover, we really appreciate that we can get a hold of them 24/7. We communicate via emails and phone calls, and they always answer in a timely fashion. We also use monday.com to manage our collaboration.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Marketing Doctor’s main strengths are their team leadership and ownership. They always come up with new ideas and strategic plans on how to make everything easier and more affordable. Additionally, their approach is unique, and they’re always willing to work with us.

Marketing Doctor is also very approachable and easy to work with, and their team has great personalities and workmanship. Moreover, they’re very dedicated and work hard for their clients.

There’s nothing Marketing Doctor could improve on.

Do your homework and compare potential service providers. Additionally, it’s better to work with local organizations, especially if you want results. When you find a partner, share your goals with them so that they can work toward those goals.

Marketing Doctor has managed our company’s digital and traditional marketing for 15 years. Our campaigns’ main focus is lead generation, and Marketing Doctor manages our campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads. They used to assist with our social media and community management too, but we now have an in-house team that handles that. 

On the traditional marketing aspect, Marketing Doctor has created campaigns on different channels, including billboards and television. Moreover, Marketing Doctor has recently conducted market research analyzing our previous campaigns’ results and key insights to deduce how to reach specific audiences. 

Marketing Doctor also helps us with Salesforce implementations to visualize our campaigns’ performance. This feature is important for making strategic and creative decisions about our marketing strategy.

I’m unsure how we initially contacted Marketing Doctor since I didn’t work at the company when the engagement started.

We started working with Marketing Doctor in January 2008, and our engagement is ongoing. I’ve personally worked with them for seven years since that’s the time I’ve been working at my company.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Marketing Doctor constantly meets our expectations. The most impressive result is that we convert more than 50% of the total leads they send us monthly.

Marketing Doctor’s project management is excellent. We have weekly meetings through Zoom or in person. We also maintain constant communication through emails and phone calls, and Marketing Doctor is responsive and professional.

I’m most impressed with Marketing Doctor’s professionalism and knowledge. We have a long relationship, and they now have a lot of knowledge and expertise in our business segment.

I can’t think of anything for Marketing Doctor to improve. We have a good business relationship; whenever something doesn’t work, I communicate it to them.

I recommend keeping constant communication with Marketing Doctor since communication is key. You should be organized and plan your project correctly.

What were your goals for this project?

We developed a comprehensive advertising marketing strategy, so the County could retain its mix of industries and corporate partners, attract new businesses and create jobs. We also needed to promote Middlesex County’s programs and services to expand resident’s awareness and involvement and increase tourism.

SOLUTION

How did you select Marketing Doctor?

We created the RFP for our County client and also did preliminary legwork to make recommendations. We helped the client during the review process and recommended Marketing Doctor as the preferred candidate as our media partner.

Once the Marketing Doctor team was approved, we had several meetings to onboard them and almost immediately jumped straight into the work of creating media strategies. Marketing Doctor provides weekly input on how are campaigns are performing, where we need to pivot or make changes, what is trending, etc.

They understand our client's budget and present solutions that will get us the best response. And since Middlesex County is so diverse, they are also adept at recommending platforms to non-English speaking audiences.

Marketing Doctor is an integral part of our team - which is a bit unusual - as we are comprised of three separate agencies: TopRight (marketing consults/marketing services); Marketing Doctor (strategic media planner/buyers) and our creative ad agency. Marketing Doctor works seamlessly with all team members.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since working with Marketing Doctor, our digital performance has skyrocketed. We just did a marketing performance survey and had 80% positive feedback. In addition, our County clients are very pleased with the advertising and marketing overall. In fact, our team has already been recommended to other County partners to assist in their advertising and marketing plans in 2021.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We love the Marketing Doctor team - it feels like we all work at the same company - which often does NOT happen when you have multiple agencies all working on the same account. They are smart, strategic, hard-working and trustworthy. Not to mention they are just a fun bunch to work with - and that matters when you are putting in long hours on a project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Not only are they knowledgeable about every new trend, but they stay on top of the latest social rules and regulation change (Facebook seems to change their practices every week!) I realize that putting together a strategic plan takes time, but the Marketing Doctor is also quick to pivot if something changes. And in 2020 - things were changing every other day!

The Marketing Doctor team never complained and always rose to the challenge.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Well, client expectations are not always reasonable - seems like they always want things faster and faster. But that's an outside force that all agencies face. Doing good work that is successful is the most important. If there is any area for improvement, it is for our team to pull them in to strategic conversations earlier.

We weren’t getting the results that we were anticipating with another firm. Additionally, they weren’t well-versed on the dental side of advertising. As a result, we ended our contract with them. I chanced upon Marketing Doctor on Facebook. They’re a local company, which was a plus for us. We contacted them, and that’s how our engagement began.

We know that they're getting the results we want when we see new patients come in. They were very successful in doing so before COVID-19, and we're still doing great. We continue to work with them because we know how much they can do for us.

For the high-quality work that they’re doing for us, they’re fantastic. They’re expensive, but we see incredible output from them.

How did Marketing Doctor perform from a project management standpoint?

They are constantly sending emails, asking questions, requesting our feedback, and checking what we want them to do for us. There’s constant communication between us, and that’s hugely important because they’re not in the dental field. They send us marketing reports to show their results.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a very good, upbeat group. Marketing Doctor always keeps things fresh and innovative. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I want them to dabble in web design in the future since we have a different company working on that. I feel like that would be super exciting; I know that it is possible for them to do it.

Come with ideas when you contact them. They’re marketers, but you have to tell them how you want to be marketed. Additionally, always keep your communication lines open. Overall, they can do great things for your business.
