We've used Luminous for more than one type of video production scope of work. The work has varied from educational videos to television spots. The scope has included storyboarding, talent selection and direction, different languages, animation, motion graphics and stock footage mix.

The deliverables have ranged from :30 - 120 seconds. We've also required fast turns and creativity.

We hired Luminous Studios to create a couple of videos explaining who we are and what we do. This was for our big launch into franchising, so we wanted to drum up excitement for our business as a whole - not just have people want to sign up their kids for the classes.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We talked to a few different video production companies. One that specializes in franchising and others that do everything. What we loved about Luminous Studios' work is that it had a human quality. It wasn't corporate, it wasn't cookie-cutter. In addition, we loved that they're also a woman-owned business.

We worked together to figure out what needed to be filmed and the best approach to doing so. We needed to do this while kids were in our space, enjoying our class, so it had to be well-planned. We also worked together for figure out the best approach to interviewing our CEO and designer, since neither of them was going to be particularly comfortable in front of the camera. The producer at Luminous did a wonderful job sorting through the messages we wanted to relay and developed the interview questions that would best get us there. Luminous was wonderful in quickly adjusting as we changed the scope of the project throughout this process, adding in still photography, headshots, and more.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We worked with our project's producer as our main contact throughout, but the owners of the business also stayed very involved and eventually wrapped up the whole project with us. The editing process was very smooth. The feedback was well-taken, applied, and our edits were turned around very quickly. The ability to leave comments at particular timestamps was a very helpful add-on.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We aren't measuring the metrics of the videos, but we've gotten a lot of positive responses to them, from people just discovering us to industry veterans. We've also used our images from the still photography on a ton of marketing collateral and throughout our new website, which will launch next month. So we continue to benefit from the wealth of images gathered during our shoot.

Our producers were all great to chat with and gave gentle nudges to keep us on track when we got distracted by other aspects of work. We communicated primarily by email, which worked best for my chaotic days and sometimes unusual work schedule. They were always quick with replies and didn't let anything go unattended.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The quality of the work, the professionalism, the attention - they were all outstanding. This wasn't a particularly big job, but they gave it as much attention and care as if it were a giant production.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

In the future I would make sure we plan on a few more rounds of editing, because I think we could have benefited from that time to explore the material more freely.

We hired Luminoustudios to do graphic design and produce videos for our 2022 Spring Gala, which was an in-person fundraiser. The scope of work included creating the overall design, i.e., the look of the event using artwork we provided; implementing that design in a website and other materials such as an electronic invitation, social media graphics, and a printed program; and producing an animated opening, a scroll of donors, and profiles of our three honorees.

Our goal were to create an attractive design for the event and to provide a brief overview of our organization's mission, recognize our donors, and create a concise and meaningful tribute to each honoree.

This was the third time we worked with Luminoustudios after interviewing several vendors We selected them originally based on their expertise, past examples that indicated their work was high quality, and reasonable pricing.

We started with a meeting to review our goals and expectations, and then Luminoustudios provided a contract with the scope of work that we reviewed and revised. We then scheduled weekly meetings to discuss the status of the project. Luminoustudios created shared Google docs that included an overview of each step for our team to comment upon, preliminary designs that we could review and edit (two rounds of edits included for all materials), and questions for each honoree that our team could review and edit.

Luminoustudios requested a direction and photos for the opening animated video. We had two rounds of revisions. Luminoustudios provided the crew for the filming of the honorees and worked with on on scheduling. Our team attended the filmings to assist with follow-up questions. Luminoustudios provided an edited first string and transcript of each video. Our team reviewed both and selected the sections we wanted to include in the videos.

They added photos we provided, lower thirds, and music. We then had two rounds of revisions for each video. Our team provided the names for the scroll of donors, and they created an animated video, making the deadline as late as possible to ensure that most donors would be included.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We worked with one main project manager, one graphic designer, and two producers for all the videos. We provided detailed feedback via email, directly on the pdfs and videos provided, and at our weekly meetings.

The feedback from our leadership, honorees, and event guests has all been excellent.

The project manager and her team were all very responsive and patient with our questions and comments. Although they prefer communicating mainly through the shared Google docs, they accepted that our team found it to be more efficient to use emails, and phone calls when necessary, as our primary forms of communication. The weekly meetings were also very helpful.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

It is a pleasure to work with Luminoustudios. They are professional, talented, patient, responsive and flexible and clearly explain every step. They make the process as smooth as possible, and the finished product is always outstanding - all at a reasonable cost.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It would be great if three rounds of revisions instead of two would be included in the scope of work for each aspect of the project. Two rounds are never enough, and we always end up paying overages (which we are informed about in advance.)

The production process was organized and seamless. Initially, we were in contact with Sania (head of production), who debriefed us about the scope of the project. We were given a timeline of three stages: preparation and production, post-product, and deliverables. We picked a day to film, and once that was completed, we went through a few rounds of revisions to develop multiple videos.

What was the team composition?

We worked with Reema, Sania, and the rest of the production team who were wonderful. When we met the production team on set, they were professional and made my team and I feel comfortable on camera. When we went through a few rounds of revisions to develop multiple videos, the team was very receptive and responsive.

This project illustrates the inception of our company and its sustainability efforts through a diverse compilation of footage and animation, and a strong voiceover. Luminoustudios Inc. was able to portray the brand's essence succinctly, and we are very pleased with the final product.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Luminoustudios Inc. was professional in all communication. Their project management skills were absolutely top notch. They guided us through the process efficiently and effectively. They resolved any questions or issues we experienced in a timely manner. Our main modes of communication were email and video conferencing.

They have an impressively creative eye for storytelling. They understood our vision well. We are very satisfied with working with Luminoustudios and would recommend it to other companies.

We were partnering with a product marketing team at Snapchat focused on educating and building relationships with potential creators on their platform through a web product. We partnered with Luminoustudios to create educational video content that would help potential creators understand how to make impactful video content on Snap. We also worked with them to create an anthem video that showcased the possibility and joy of being a creator on Snapchat.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Luminoustudios Inc. stood out because they really understood the creator audience segment and understood the tone that Snapchat wanted to hit. They also had a strong plan for executing a big scope in a challenging timeline.

Luminous won the work because they had a great strategy and creative concept for resonating with the audience. Once we selected Luminous, they started by delivering creative concepts and then worked with us to select talent and choose a location. They also wrote scripts for each of the 10 education videos, plus art direction for the anthem video. They led us through the pre-production phase, the shoot and post production where they applied UI over the footage to ensure it felt like the product.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We mainly worked with co-founders, Reema and Sania. Reema played more of an Executive Producer role and Sania played more of a Creative Director role, but both were very versatile and dynamic and could lean into each role. We also worked with Sari who helped with script writing, and some production. The feedback process was fast, collaborative and and transparent — all of these elements were critical to the success of the project.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The feedback from the client has been very positive, especially with the quality of the work given the tight timeline that we had. Luminous delivered all eleven videos on time and we were very happy with how they have been received on the site.

The timeline was crazy and I think that is important context for the project management style required to complete the job on time. The ladies were very upfront about which milestones were critical in meeting our deadline and held both our company and the client accountable. 

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were first and foremost good humans that you want to spend time with and work with. They are also incredibly talented and flexible and that combination of characteristics made them very easy to trust and very enjoyable to work with. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Things were moving very fast, but I think there was an opportunity to be a bit more clear and proactive about managing change requests. It would have helped budget negotiations a bit more, but it was difficult in the timeline we had and it wasn't a big deal. Grasping for straws here.

I am the project manager for a university's Electronic Patient Visit Assessment (ePVA) (C). The ePVA is designed for clinicians seeking a time-saving workflow, as it is a remote symptom monitoring platform for digital health interventions. In my role as Project Manager, I manage and facilitate projects from their start to beginning - handling contracts, finances, and everything in between.

The video process was designed like this: 1) Scope of work 2) Strategy 3) Scripting 4) Storyboard 5) Creation Throughout this process, it was iterative work. The animation studio would constantly ask for feedback during every step of this process to ensure we were satisfied with the direction that the video was moving.

We were engaged with three members of the vendor's team - they all worked in collaboration on the animation itself - while some handled the finances directly whereas others were focused on the end-product.
