I am the founder of a lifestyle brand called Carpe Momentum. Before we launch our product we'll be using Instagram to post content and gauge the market.

We needed help with our branding: color palette, logo, social badge, font, and website. Kona Made also designed an aspect of our physical product which we'll launch in the near future.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted a fresh, clean, classic look to our brand that stood out to millennials, specifically those who are into mindfulness. It was also important that the branding matched the brand identity: sharp and a bit irreverent. Kona Made nailed this aspect!

Kona Made was recommended to us by a marketing agency. After talking to Christine, the founder, and reviewing Kona Made's website and Instagram profile, I knew there would be a strong mutual fit.

After discussing the goals of the brand, we went through four rounds of iterations. The first round, Kona Made provided four different branding systems.

We merged several of the systems together to combine our favorite color palette, logo design, and font. The final three rounds - we needed an extra round - to really nail the primary colors of the palette and the intricacies of the logo.

I worked directly with Christine, Kona Made's founder, who was attentive and patient with me as we moved through each phase of the project.

So far, we've had friends, family, and mentors provide fantastic reviews about the end result.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I work full-time, and towards the end of the project, welcomed a newborn baby into the world. My workflow could've been better, but given the circumstances, Kona Made was proactive and arranged Zoom meetings for us so that we could easily discuss feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was most impressed about Kona Made's ability to turn my abstract thoughts into tangible results. It was pretty amazing to watch the brand unfold from an idea into a real-life entity.

Are there any areas for improvement?

If anything, I should've suggested jumping on Zoom chats to discuss changes. Some of my feedback was a bit too abstract to explain via email, so a video chat would've made the process quicker and more efficient for everyone.

What challenge were you trying to address with Kona Made?

We needed a new website because we changed our name. Once we changed all of our collateral, we decided to redo our website. The site needed to be malleable, meaning we needed to be able to change it ourselves.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Kona Made created a brand new website for us based on our specifications. We had a framework in mind, but Christine (Owner & Designer) also gave us cool options and helped to design the platform. She built a robust e-commerce piece because we sell our products online as well as in retail stores. Christine made the site vibrant and easily searched. She also made sure that both the frontend and backend of the website were user-friendly.

We worked with Christine.

We worked with an agency that knew and worked with Christine. We asked them for a recommendation, and they connected us with Konda Made. We talked over the project together. Their team submitted a proposal and we decided to use them.

We spent approximately $15,000 on this project.

We worked on this project between January–February 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Christine created a vibrant, information-packed e-commerce website that’s easy for the consumer to navigate. The site’s also easy for us to update on our own. In a nutshell, they did a great job.

How did Kona Made perform from a project management standpoint?

All of the milestones were met. Like normal projects, we started, stopped, and changed direction. For example, about half-way through the project, our founder decided that he wanted to manipulate a template that Christine created for one section and use it for another section. She handled all of those changes professionally.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Kona Made rolled with our changes easily. She never complained or said our requests weren’t in the scope. We didn’t change everything such that it would be a disaster. However, our requests were a little outside the scope. Christine just rolled with it and did it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, Christine handled the challenges well. I’ve worked with agencies in the past that said changes weren’t in the original scope of work, but the changes weren’t that far outside the scope. In the true sense of partnership, we all have to grow in the same direction.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would feel good about working with Kona Made. If you’re choosing them, you’re choosing someone who knows how to work in that space. You can feel confident that they’ll get the job done for you.

Christine consistency hit the nail on the head! She gave us a logo that subtly kept all the aspects we wanted and scream Mission Multisport. The colors were vibrant and the design is flawless! The website is also top notch. Easy to use, visually pleasing and again screams MIssion Multisport! We could not have created and launched our brand without her. Christine did not just impact our business she was a key component in launching our business!

Christine kept our team on task and gave us benchmark goals. She quickly answered any questions we had and guided us through anything we did not understand.

Christine at Kona Made has the ability to gather information from a 10 minute conversation and quickly understand what you want out of your brand. I never thought my logo would have a "feel" as it's just a design, but I can honestly say when I see the color pallet, our sub-logos, or the website it "feels" like our brand!

We initiated Kona Made really early on in the life of our organization. We had not yet opened for business so we started with naming, then branding and messaging. We also enlisted them to build a temporary landing page for our website as well as full buildout and design of our site.

We established a timeline early on that focused on benchmarks. Naming, logo creation, brand colors/theme, brand message and story, web design... everything had an easy-to-follow schedule built in, so we knew where we were in terms of timeline at all times.

Absolutely, we would check in via email regularly and then had scheduled video calls to track progress and talk through feedback and direction. Their deliverables were always on time.
