Blue Ocean's expertise lies in distribution and with no in-house experience we decided to reach out to KLOC for their expertise in design and development. Our aim was to streamline operations and tap into the emerging online market.

We short-listed few web-developers based on research and word of mouth. KLOC was then selected based on previous projects and rich portfolio.

A kick off meeting and detailed design review was scheduled between our team and KLOC. We agreed upon a schedule since it was time intensive and shared our ideas. KLOC then reviewed it internally and and shared Ecommerce features, Shopify applications and add a variety of our products (600+ SKUs).

Weekly meetings were kept with KLOC and the BOG team to go over milestones and discuss any open or pending discussions. Asana dashboard was used which was very helpful to track pending activities.

Kloc Technologies has a solution-oriented and out-of-the-boxing thinking approach. We ran into difficult challenges which were handled in a timely and effective manner. Moreover, the professionalism by the team members was outstanding.

I'm the founder of Orimii Skincare, India's first pregnancy skincare brand. We plan to sell via our own website and platforms such as Amazon & Nykaa.

We onboarded Kloc Technologies to build our very first website. We planned to build the site pre-launch. Being a D2C brand, our goal was to build an e-commerce site that is seamless in operations over desktop and mobile.

As this was to be our first website, we wanted to set a strong base for the future too. Moreover, the site had to be in sync with our packaging aesthetics and brand language in order to ensure a common touchpoint for customers.

SOLUTION

How did you select Kloc Technologies and what were the deciding factors?

From our research, we had identified that Shopify would best fit our website needs; we contacted multiple Shopify Experts mentioned on Shopify's own website, Kloc being one of them.

They were super responsive & helpful even before we onboarded them and we could tell that they truly were "experts" at Shopify! Our vision, commercials and turn-around time aligned and we were happy to have them on board.

Post our kick-off meeting, we shared the website designs on Figma with Kloc. They created an excel sheet where they had mentioned the page-wise delivery timelines. They also kept updating their progress on the sheet.

They would then notify us whenever a page was complete and we would review and add our comments - which were reviewed and resolved very quickly & efficiently. Once the website was ready, we moved our feedback to Asana, where the team helped us with real-time updates on the website - making the entire process very smooth, fast and effective.

We would also schedule weekly calls with the team to discuss the progress and issues that needed more clarifications from either of our ends. They were easily accessible on Whatsapp too, in case we needed to point out any minor issues.

The project manager was our main point of contact with Kloc. We also had 2 backend developers working with us, who were also accessible to us directly if we ever needed or wanted to.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We haven't launched to the public yet, but our friends and family are absolutely loving the website.

We were in daily contact over email. We would also communicate minor issues over Whatsapp. Progress was tracked, updated and reviewed over Excel - we moved to Asana more recently. Timelines were set and more importantly, followed.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Kloc were always very responsive to feedback, which we found a refreshing change. I was most impressed with the speed with which they completed the most complex tasks.

Vishal (our main POC) would also go out of his way to advise us on related issues falling outside Kloc's scope of work. They truly became a part of our team.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We had a bit of a struggle explaining aesthetics virtually (especially for the mobile site), but Kloc helped us overcome this by introducing us to new features that could help us screen share our mobile-view too.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Kloc Technologies developed a Shopify e-commerce site with a lot of custom features for us. The steps of our engagement were quite straightforward for an e-commerce development project. First, they developed the site’s blueprint, UX design, wireframes, and the actual overall design. Then, they defined the different features and the user flow.

I was mainly in contact with Kloc Technologies’ delivery manager and a lead developer. There were more people on the development side whom I didn’t interact with.

We found Kloc Technologies through Shopify’s partner listing. They’re a premier Shopify partner and can do advanced customizations.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from April–September 2021. However, we will use them for similar projects in the future.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had high ambitions for this project, and yet, Kloc Technologies over-delivered. They fulfilled our feature requirements, and the site functioned as expected from an order-to-cash point of view.

How did Kloc Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

I was very impressed with Kloc Technologies’ communication; they were very swift in communicating. We communicated via Google Chat and Google Meet, and I always got a reply within a few hours. Additionally, they were very good at delivering. We used Asana for task management. However, we had some minor hiccups, but we were working in the middle of COVID-19.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Kloc Technologies’ Shopify knowledge was impressive. They were very engaged in reaching our objectives, and they over-delivered, staying within budget and delivering in time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Comparing working with Kloc Technologies with Swedish agencies, we had to be a bit too detailed. In Sweden, companies are accustomed to getting more conceptual and high-level targets, and they sort out the details. However, with Kloc Technologies, we had to micromanage and be very detailed. Still, I don’t think it is a unique aspect of theirs but rather a cultural difference. I’ve had the same experience working with other offshore companies.

Be clear with your scope and ambitions, be detailed, and be proactive.

We needed someone to develop a new website for us. We wanted to migrate from just an informative website to an e-commerce site.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Kloc Technologies developed our e-commerce website from scratch. Our old website was built on WordPress, but we wanted our new website done on Shopify. They advised us on how to do it properly.

There were three people from Kloc working for us.

How did you come to work with Kloc Technologies?

We’d worked with other vendors in the past but didn’t have a very good experience. Kloc was recommended to us by one of our contacts who had seen them work on other websites. We started with a call to go over the scope of the project, and they shared with us other projects that they’d done, other clients that they’d worked for, how they could help us, and how they could improve our website. We liked the way that they went through everything.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $6,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2020–February 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve received very positive feedback on the website and seen better conversions — we’re very happy with their work. There haven’t been any crashes or bugs on the site. However, I know that if there are any issues with the site in the future, Kloc will fix them for us.

How did Kloc Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Kloc created a WhatsApp group to communicate with us. Communication lagged at moments, but it was probably because of COVID-19. If they were ever delayed, they apologized and got the task done as soon as possible. They’ve kept resolving issues even after the completion of the project — we’re really happy about that.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Kloc understood our needs very well, and they were very accommodating.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, communication with Kloc was slow, but that was their only issue.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be clear on what you want and explain all your needs. Take their advice on what looks good and let them give you feedback — they’re very good with that and know what will look good and what won’t.

I own a consumer tech brand. We are into the e-commerce space and we manufacture and market our products on e-commerce channels.

What challenge were you trying to address with Kloc Technologies?

We were trying to get our website up and running on a Shopify platform. That’s why we were looking for someone to help us design and build our website. As a result, we approached Kloc Technologies to help us with the implementation.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We gave them the framework and the team built the site from scratch. It was a full-blown e-commerce site. We wanted them to follow our design, guide book, and brand book to make sure that we had the functionality of some of the features such as the cash delivery features.

The team worked on making sure the look and feel of the website were great, and they integrated the right templates into our platform. Kloc Technologies also made sure that we could receive our emails from the Shopify site. Currently, they’ve been providing regular maintenance for the company.

I mostly communicated with Abhisarika (Director). She’s the one who spearheaded the project. 

How did you come to work with Kloc Technologies?

We reached out to Shopify India, and we asked them their preferred vendors. They mentioned Kloc Technologies is based in Bangalore, and it was convenient because we could communicate in the offices in the same city. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $10,000–$15,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our project ran from July–December 2019. The first phase ended in October and the second phase ended in December.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The biggest thing was the project being completed on time. Kloc Technologies was able to implement all the functionalities and design we asked for and that it conformed to whatever we needed. 

How did Kloc Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They had a thorough project management process. They shared the roadmap and showed us when we completed certain aspects of the project. The calls came directly with me, but my team led the project and they met once every two weeks to go over the roadmap. During the meetings, Kloc Technologies also showed what we accomplished, our pain points, and what needed to be done for things to be completed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their technical skills were good and their communication skills were excellent. Their ability to ensure the project gets done on time had been impressive. They were easily available in order to prevent any hiccups.

Are there any areas they could improve?

If you compare their technical skills with Western countries, there may be a little bit of room for improvement in certain aspects. However, I think those applications are still new in India and perhaps, once they’re exposed to it, they can easily pick it up. The key is for them to be exposed to the upcoming technologies of the latest apps, and that way they can quickly understand things. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that you’re communicating because they value that. Just be upfront and let them know what you mean and what you expect. They’ll definitely step up and get the work done.
