I'm the CTO of a video production company. We provide a camera kit to our clients and give them all the training and resources needed to shoot their own video content. They then upload it to our cloud-based platform, and our post-production team edits the footage and returns their finished video within 24 hours.

We wanted to build an iOS app but didn’t have any in-house resources to do so.

What was the scope of their involvement?

KitRUM built our iOS app and fixed any issues. We spent a few months doing active work and creating the app and then a few months tracking bugs and making sure the app ran smoothly. They then added the app to the App Store.

They reached out to us. I did my own research and saw they had good reviews, so I hired them.

The app is live in the App Store, which is exactly what we wanted.

We had weekly check-ins, and they showed a demo every week of the work they’d accomplished. They provided progress reports to keep us updated on where they were at.

Their project management and communication were excellent, especially for an offshore team.

They could’ve been more proactive in QA and stopping bugs from coming through in the first place.

I’m a software engineer for a bot automation startup that works on robot grippers and end-of-arm tooling. Our products are primarily for small- and large-scale industrial automation use. To foster a more collaborative environment, we seek to make robots, grippers, and end-of-arm tools easy for customers to use.

What challenge were you trying to address with KitRUM?

Because I’m the only full-time software engineer on site, I needed resources who could augment my development capacity. KitRUM helped us develop a PC interface that allows us to communicate with our robotic grippers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They worked with us to develop a desktop interface using our provided mock-ups and communications protocol. It’s a Windows program that allows vendors to interact with and control a robotic gripper by setting parameters. On the interface, vendors can see data related to the gripper and communicate with it via ethernet socket messaging.

KitRUM built the program using Microsoft Visual Studio and C#, and we finished the main production a couple of months ago. Currently, we’re doing minor bug fixes and making general improvements.

I’ve mostly interfaced with their project manager, but there are also two other programmers who work with me. We completed most of the work with 1–2 programmers but would scale up if we needed something in a pinch. In total, there have been 4–5 technical staff.

They bill us per month, which is based on hours worked. Typically, they charge $58 an hour per developer.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I appreciate how flexible they are. As a startup, we often change requirements or face challenges that we don’t have time to handle. Despite this, KitRUM has been willing to work without us throughout the process. Later in the project, we needed to translate the program into different languages but lacked the resources to do it. Their team took the initiative to find translators and completed the task quickly. It’s clear that they’re professionals who know what they’re doing.

How did KitRUM perform from a project management standpoint?

We manage the code through GitHub and communicated via weekly calls and Slack. The most difficult part of the project has been the back and forth because they’re 12 time zones away. However, as we’ve continued working together, we’ve gotten a better sense of when to touch base. Now, they communicate often and are willing to accommodate times for us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Beyond good communication and project management, they’re smart, friendly people.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only obstacle was the time difference, but we overcame that, so I can’t criticize them.

Have a game plan and communicate it clearly. KitRUM is receptive to your ideas, so don’t be shy about sharing them.

I’m the CTO and co-founder of Codescoop. We’re an IT startup that’s building software development tools for enterprise clients. We also provide analytics and machine-learning services.

We needed to ramp up a skilled software development team within our region, preferably in the same time zone.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Once we founded the company, we immediately started working with KitRUM on our core platform. It’s built for both mobile devices and web browsers. They’re working with a combination of JavaScript, React, and cloud-based technology to create a responsive frontend system. They’ve also integrated several opensource frameworks, MySQL databases, NoSQL databases, and Reddit databases into the backend. A few of their developers are working on our API and DevOps automation efforts.

I was referred to them at a previous job, and we worked together on a project. I was familiar with their capabilities, so I reached out for assistance. I personally interviewed their staff and handpicked a team. Within a few weeks, we started development.

We started working together in May 2017, and the engagement is ongoing. Including our project together at my previous job, I’ve been working with their team for four years.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We started from scratch. The KitRUM team’s experience and skill improved the quality of our core platform. They deliver reliable code, and they refactor it on their own. We’ve established a formal QA process, so there are never any problems. I’m completely satisfied with their work.

How did KitRUM perform from a project management standpoint?

We have an in-house project management system that their developers and architects follow. We work in an agile environment, using Jira to track the project and GitHub to share information. Most of our communication is through Slack. It’s been a seamless collaboration so far.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their depth is their biggest strength. They hire competent developers, and they can scale their team to accommodate our workload. I’m very impressed by how quickly they’re able to provide additional resources.

Are there any areas they could improve?

With the flexibility in team composition, there’s a bit of confusion around the terms of the contract. They could be more uniform and transparent in this process. With that said, we’re a startup, so we don’t care much about formalities as long as we’re working quickly. Overall, they meet all of our needs.

Any advice for potential customers?

Clients should be prepared for a flexible partnership. I would recommend the KitRUM team to any startup, mid-sized company, or dynamic enterprise. Businesses with established workflows may find it challenging to navigate the informal workflow.

We needed a staffing partner that could quickly pull the appropriate talent for specific technical roles in data, science, or machine learning.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We work with KitRUM when a client presents us with urgent hires and there’s no time for our entire onboarding and screening process. Because KitRUM has a large talent pool available to them, which they can quickly and effectively screen, they provide us with qualified candidates in a short period. We send them the job requirements and usually within one or two days, we have the resumes of talented applicants.

They also provide us with a first-week trial, so that if an engineer is not a good fit, they can be easily replaced. That has given both the client and us a lot of confidence in onboarding the KitRUM personnel.

Our biggest client is a startup that just launched their first site, and we worked with KitRUM to provide them with two data science and machine learning engineers. Upon initial hire, the client wasn’t ready for the two engineers to begin their work with Python. However, KitRUM is so talented at finding dedicated and driven personnel, that these two engineers immediately engaged with different roles to help the client.

I’ve met the CEO in-person twice, once in Poland and once in San Francisco. I’ve also worked directly with the founder, and recently, a new team member that will be managing clients and projects. All three of them are personable, kind, and down to earth.

One of the founders initially reached out to me, and I was impressed with his technical savvy. KitRUM then produced a wealth of resumes that were extremely well screened, so we continued working with them.

We check in regularly with our clients and with the KitRUM management—who receive regular reports from their engineers. Everyone has been pleased with their work, and the KitRUM staff is satisfied with their placements.

We have specific project management tools with each of our customers, but with KitRUM specifically, we communicate through email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We abandoned the vendors that we worked with before KitRUM because their hiring process became muddled and complicated past the beginning of our relationship. We have developed and maintained a personal partnership with KitRUM.

Additionally, their first-week trail has been a huge advantage. There was one instance when a developer couldn’t work with a client because of the odd hours and different time zones. KitRUM’s trial period created a level of comfort in finding the perfect candidate.

I can’t think of anything—outside of offering a lot of discounts.

The new solution addressed key pain points such as infrastructure cost optimization, real-time syncing of customer and shipping data, and setting up a CI/CD pipeline.

By optimizing the AWS configurations, they managed to cut down cloud costs by 140%, which was a huge win. The platform also became much more stable, server load dropped by 90%, and everything started running smoother. Thanks to the integration with HubSpot CRM, the team is now saving around 20 hours of manual work every month.
