JS Morlu ensures our adherence to our industry’s requirements and practices by generating our annual and quarterly accounting statements, including income, profit, and loss. We’ve done our part in the discovery phase by providing them copies of our existing accounting documents, which their team can refer to as they work on our statements.

JS Morlu’s team provides consulting services to help us deliver effective and stand-out proposals and streamline our tax preparation and financial planning efforts. Additionally, they help us flesh out the best approaches we can benefit from when making integral business decisions.

I’m the founder of AMA Consulting, a contracting firm. We provide professional and IT services for federal agencies.

We needed help setting up our accounting infrastructure. As a small business, I handled all of the accounting, invoicing, and accounts receivable myself. Once we started to land larger contracts and brought on more employees, I brought JS Morlu on to set up a government-approved accounting system.

JS Morlu does everything from balancing the books to creating a budget. They even help us calculate our total overhead and fringe benefits.

Throughout our partnership, they’ve offered advice on cash flow investment to help us grow the company. This includes analyzing our prices to ensure that we’re competitive but can still turn a profit.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Their financial reports are accurate and they always deliver on time. They’re very detail-oriented too. For example, if I say that I want to spend money on something by the end of the year, they make room for it in the budget. Then they update the balance sheet to make sure it carries over from year to year. They’re very good at what they do.

How did JS Morlu perform from a project management standpoint?

They respond to questions quickly and deliver everything on time. We use phone, email, and text to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I trust them. I want to be able to focus on my business, and they let me do that. They’re wonderful.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would be great if the staff was a little more stable so we could build stronger relationships with them. Throughout the course of our partnership, they’ve had some turnover, so we rely on our relationship with John. Sometimes, that means it takes time for him to get back to us when another person could have helped in the meantime.

Our company was looking for a reliable accounting firm to generally oversee the accounting department in areas of consultation, year end review and taxes. Our previous firm messed up our taxes and JS Morlu was a life saver. They amended previous taxes and our company was in a better position.

We met with JS Morlu and discussed our books. We were moving from QuickBooks to Sage 50 software. I must say they did an amazing job with this transition. They were in charge of the whole setup, configuration and provided training classes to us on how to use the software. JS Morlu provided consultation services, year end review and taxes

I’ve worked with Gbadee (Firm Administrator) and one of their tax experts who introduced me to John (Managing Partner). I call John from time to time when I need advice. If he can’t help, he’ll refer me to a team resource who can.

John is way more certified than most accountants I know — He’s not a typical CPA and he’s more qualified and certified in other areas.

They perform great. They have good communication as we’re able to understand everything. We typically communicate through the phone, and sometimes we have meetings on RingCentral.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re trustworthy, and I’m impressed by their honesty and integrity.

I believe that time management is the only thing I think is their weakness.

The impact of the work has been positive. It has allowed us to win government contracts to provide services and support the federal government, so they’ve done exceptionally well.

How did JS Morlu perform from a project management standpoint?

They deliver on time. We communicate through personal groups, emails, phone calls, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. We do whatever we need to keep in contact.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They haven’t missed; they’re always on time with the requirements that we give them. Secondly, they know the federal procurement policies and procedures. Also, they know the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) policies, which has allowed us to become DCAA compliant.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We would probably do a lot better if they had more staff and trained accountants, but John manages from the top. Sometimes he might get overworked, but most people do. I understand because I do the same; I get more involved in my work than I should. Sometimes to get it done, you have to do it yourself. However, I think that passing it down to someone else would be great.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

JS Morlu would be fine to work with anybody. I’ve recommended several people to them, and they’ve taken them on as clients.

We hired JS Morlu after several conversation and evaluation of other firms who provide similar services. We found JS Morlu to offer the best service package and the most experience for our needs.

JS Morlu sat down with us to understand our business and needs. Once they fully understand our needs, JS Morlu presented us with several options for their services. We reviewed the options and selected the best one that work best for our budget and needs at that time. We have since outsource more services to JS Morlu.

I have worked with at least 4 of JS Morlu resources the past few years. However, they owner always make himself available to help us answer the deeper questions.

JS Morlu is fully integrated into our business process, especially our financials. They have served us over the years, not just on accounting, but Taxes, Financial Analyses, proposal to name a few.

We have established several line of communications such as text, email, and phone. Our company always received great services from them.

The level of attention and support we received from them is impressive and the attention to details with each transaction.

Their services have been sufficient for us. We plan to obtain more dedicated services which is not in scope with current engagement with them.

What was the scope of their involvement?

JS Morlu provides financial consulting support to our team, and John (Managing Partner) acts as our CFO and does everything a CFO would do. Their team provides monthly reports regarding the status of our company's financials, and they do financial reports for any certification requirement. They also work with my accountant to prepare and plan our taxes. Additionally, they assist me with bookkeeping, payroll, and more.  

JS Morlu also provides business consulting services. They have helped my company to become Defense Contract Audit Agency compliant, and they also help with some proposal requirements.

What is the team composition?

Aside from John, I work with anywhere from 2–3 people, including Mike (Senior Business Advisor) and another teammate who does the actual bookkeeping and posting for payroll. 

How did you come to work with JS Morlu?

I met John through my colleagues, as John was providing them with bookkeeping services. At the time, I was looking for help in terms of bookkeeping and pricing. So my colleagues referred John to me, and that's how we met. He provided support to my company through the years, until later I needed additional help. We modified our arrangement and made him act as my company's CFO.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend $2,500 a month on the consultancy. If we need additional support, they charge an additional fee. They have kept their price the same since we started working together.

We started working together in November 2014, and it’s ongoing.

JS Morlu displays expertise in the financial sector, and John is very knowledgeable in the federal government arena — they are outstanding. 

What really keeps my relationship with them is the fact that they are trustworthy. John is a good guy — he has integrity and character, and he will always do the right thing. Their advice has kept me out of legal trouble.

How did JS Morlu perform from a project management standpoint?

JS Morlu is fantastic at project management, and they have met all their deadlines. We communicate via email, and if there’s an issue or emergency, I will give them a call. Normally, we schedule a monthly call to go over the company’s financial standing. We also meet face to face 1–2 times a year. When we have annual company planning sessions, John would be there as well.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with their flexibility — they make me feel I’m their only customer. I know they have many more customers, but if there's an issue or problem, they are available right away. What makes them stand out is the trust we have developed. John has character and integrity, and that's really important in this business.

I can’t think of anything.

Sit down with John, and tell him about your goals and the areas of support you need. Ask for his input about the best type of service that his team can provide to your company. I’ve referred a lot of people to John because I think highly of him. John would never advise anybody for more services that he feels they don’t need; he will be straightforward with them.
