John is our "go to" designer for all print and digital ads. He has a great ability to understand our requirements and our industry and deliver top-notch ad content. Our advertisers share their annual reader survey and our ads always rank among the top ads from other much larger companies with much larger ad spend budgets.

Each advertiser has very different and specific ad submission specifications. John always delivers very creative ads accurately and at a reasonable cost. We often times make very last minute requests to meet our print deadlines. John is quick to react to last minute requests and short deadlines.

In the beginning, I was exposed to this company while working in a director position for another company. I witness the process for multiple projects and was able to collaborate with John Wolfe Compton directly. In collaborating with John it was clear that he was an exceptional listener which greatly impacted the end result. John could decipher what I was saying and also pick up on cues of what was not being articulated clearly, which ultimately created the best product for me.

John took the time to meet with me in detail, listen and ask pertinent questions about what I liked, what I disliked, and dove deeper than other businesses I interviewed for my projects. I never felt rushed or pressured in meetings or email communications, and he always followed up with examples so I had options. Ultimately all of the options were great, but there was a progression and a discovery to the best option for me.

I have always felt confident that the final result of his work represented my company's vision, and it was exciting to be included in multiple tiered processes with expert guidance. John thought of many things that I did not and his suggestions created a product I am proud of.

John and I had a detailed phone conversation where he asked questions about our company philosophy, mission and culture. He dug into why we chose the name we did in an effort to come up with a fitting logo and “look”. He presented several options to us and we were immediately drawn to one that fit us perfectly. From there John laid out the project steps in detail as well as a timeline. It was very easy to follow and John delivered on all fronts.

I had worked with John in the past and knew that he does amazing design work.

SoccerCity needed to create a brand that would resonate with soccer fans as well as entertainment and art enthusiasts. We iterated several times on various design concepts. Once we had settled on a brand, we used the identity across many campaigns, encouraging people to sign to put SoccerCity on the ballot to encouraging them to go vote.

I worked with John only.

The campaign to get people to sign to put SoccerCity on the ballot was completed in record time, we were blown away by the number of signatures we collected even on day one.

Very effective - John is independent and talented enough that I can present a concept, something I need designed and what its goals are, and leave him to it. Normally he comes up with something awesome that truly impresses and requires very little revision.

We hired John to create a logo, brand image, and website for the business, when it began in 2019. John is GREAT to work with. We had an idea of what we wanted the logo to look like, and within a very short time, John came back with some mock ups. Once we settled on the logo, a logo style guide was finalized and sent to us for immediate use. John then spent the time to learn what we were trying to accomplish online in our business, and from there, built out the website. The design is fantastic.

The site is user friendly. And the branding is prominent throughout. We are very happy with the work John had done... and when we ask for any changes, additions, subtractions, he is very quick to get it done. If the website goes down for any reason, or there are any issues with the site, John is very quick to troubleshoot the issue and make sure the site is running smoothly. It's great not having to worry about the website.

We had seen other work John had done, in both branding and website creation, so it was a no brainer for us to work with him.

We are recognized as a name in the rowing community now. And that goes beyond who we are, and who knows us. We are found by new potential clients daily, who have heard about or seen our brand/business. We get numerous inquiries directly through the contact page of our business. Anyone and everyone who sees our logo likes it.

Workflow is great. We have any issue, we alert John, and he fixes it. We need to expand the website, or make changes, we contact John and he gets it done well. And he does all of this in a timely fashion. We are never left waiting on John for things we need done.

The customer service is stellar. Communication is excellent. And the ability that John has to take a brand idea and/or website idea and refine it, improve it, and execute it is next level. We are very happy with the branding and website creation John has provided us.

We were referred to John. His portfolio is a dynamic list of projects and companies. We were in need of someone who had a broad set of skills with design.

The initial set of projects in 2017 involved creating a new brand, look and feel to the corporate name and products as the company was pivoting into a more forward-thinking software solution set. The new "Revolution" w=brand and creative guideline was created as the starting point.

In 2018, based on the new branding, a new website and sales collateral were created.

In 2019, more sales and account management collateral were designed, and updated as well as digital ads, video content and event management pieces.

In 2020, additional content and digital collateral were created as live events became webinars. Content and updated sales and account management materials were also handled.

In 2021, much like 2020, digital design pieces and sales collateral remained priority - including website design updates, landing pages, etc.

Just 1 - John Compton is a freelancer with a broad set of skills, and we are a small company that currently doesn't have the budget or need for a full design team

John has provided superior results to assigned projects and works with great ease with all team members. From our initial branding project, to our ongoing sales collateral and web design needs, John has always met deadlines and surpassed expectations with projects and various tasks.

The workflow and communication is top notch. Most of the primary communications and workflow between John and our organization are through me, however, John has always been willing to open up to other needs from other departments if need be.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most impressive aspect of working with John Wolfe Compton is how superior the end product is and within a minimal amount of time. Their design skills are top notch, and to receive high-end work product in a short amount of time is impressive and also stress-reducing when last minute projects or tasks arise unexpectedly.

There is always room for improvement with every working partnership. In this case, because of the virtual setting and nature, communications between parties must remain consistent. There have not been many issues at all, but the very few that have come up are typically a result of miscommunication.

What was the scope of their involvement?

John Wolfe Compton built our website and designed our nonprofit's logo. The requirements were extremely detailed (40+ pages), and we were very prescriptive. The team was extremely accommodating, even when the scope of work went well beyond what they had originally anticipated. John Wolfe Compton also assisted us with some backend website setup and technical work.

Moreover, John Wolfe Compton did such a good job that we came back to them to do additional design work for our printed marketing materials.

We worked together from April–December 2025.
