IT Total Care is a veteran-owned managed IT services provider based in Foster City, California, serving home care, home health, and hospice agencies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. IT Total Care has supported Bay Area businesses since 2001. Over the past several years we built a practice around home-based care - home care, home health, and hospice agencies whose staff work from client homes and whose systems hold protected health information. That work has a different shape than typical small business IT: HIPAA obligations, clinical platforms, and a mobile workforce. We built our team around handling it.

We operate on a pod model. Each client works with a consistent group of engineers who know their environment, rather than a rotating help desk queue. This matters most for agencies running clinical systems, where the person answering needs to already understand how the environment is configured.

Home-based care agencies have most of their staff working from client homes rather than an office. We manage that with mobile device management, secure remote access, and support processes built for caregivers who need help in the field rather than at a desk. Devices are configured so protected health information stays controlled even off the corporate network.

We handle the technical safeguards HIPAA requires: access controls, encryption for data at rest and in transit, audit logging, secure remote access, and device management for staff working in the field. We work with agency leadership on documentation and risk assessments, and support agencies preparing for and responding to audits.

Caregiver turnover is high in home-based care, and every hire and departure has an IT component. We build repeatable processes for both: provisioning accounts and devices for new caregivers so they can work their first shift without delay, and removing access on departure across every system, including the agency platform, email, and any mobile devices holding protected health information. Incomplete offboarding is one of the more common findings in HIPAA risk assessments, and it is entirely preventable with a documented process.
