The first milestone of the project we completed referred to the conversion of an application which included 37k lines of code. This approach helped the Customer, upon a small scale, to check the feasibility of the project and ensure the right choice of migration strategy. According to the Customer’s requirements, the web client was meant to be implemented with ReactJS (React), while the web server should be in Java. Service Strategy Having rich expertise in PowerBuilder and Java, we were able to find the optimal migration solution to Java involving ReactJS. We aimed at showing that the resulting applications in conjunction with the database would operate flawlessly and effectively cope with the tasks assigned. In the pipeline, the team examined in depth the source code which the Customer provided us with. Particular requirements to application conversion to Java and React were gathered with diligence. Solution Application migration scope consisted of more than 500 PowerBuilder source files of the Regress application containing over 86k LOC. The application included 17 PowerBuilder Customer’s modules. During the analysis process 5 specifically complex code segments were revealed, which involved rarely used functionality.  Some non-specific instances were handled within this migration. For example, the WSDL services were initially applied in PowerBuilder. For the flawless execution of this functionality it was transferred to ReactJS. Results and benefits The Customer admitted that the whole system runs faultlessly and the resulting applications demonstrated the performance level proper for a high-load system. Our Client remained pleased with the project outcome, since the results obtained in terms of quality and timelines surpassed their expectations.  ### COBOL to C# Customer Our customer is a healthcare organization dedicated to improve funding and clinical performance of hospitals and healthcare systems by introducing technology and health management services. Their innovative solutions are helping to improve the patient care experience and quality of healthcare services. Challenge The company challenged a task of migrating one of its critical applications from COBOL to a modern and scalable .NET platform. For this purpose was chosen Ispirer Migration and Modernization Toolkit that provides automated database and application migration. Solution During the Analysis Stage, the Ispirer team found out the appropriate solution to migrate COBOL to C# with usage of customer-developed framework. During the Extension Stage, the Ispirer technical team has extended automatic conversion for the following statements: NOT NUMERIC conversion; Compare for multi-values (if(some_var != "73" && "74" && " ") ); Function INTEGER-OF-DATE conversion; SEARCH ALL conversion; PERFORM UNTIL statement conversion. After the Toolkit extensions automatic migration of such statements is supported and can be implemented in any COBOL to C# migration project. Results and benefits The customer was satisfied with migration results and turned back to the Ispirer team to perform one more migration project of several hundred thousand lines of code. ### Progress 4GL to C# WinForms Customer A provider of industry-specific business software designed around the needs of manufacturing, distribution, retail, and services organizations. Challenge The customer needed to migrate their Progress 4GL business logic to the .NET platform, the C# programming language and the WinForms GUI framework. Solution The customer collaborated with Ispirer Systems on the recommendation of the Microsoft Corporation. As part of the project, Microsoft expanded the .NET Framework for this particular company. The first step for the project implementation was the Analysis Stage, during of which the Ispirer team discussed the requirements and found out an appropriate approach to move the Progress 4GL business logic to C# WinForms using customer-developed framework. During the Extension Stage, the Ispirer team extended and customized Ispirer Toolkit to ensure the best migration results. Consequently, we were able to achieve 95% of migration automation using Ispirer Toolkit. Moreover, the customer was satisfied with conversion results and mentioned that the toolkit was flexible enough to be easily adapted to its coding conventions. The company acquired the License for 36 months and successfully moved 5,000,000 lines of Progress 4GL code to C# WinForms. Results and benefits The Ispirer’s solution enabled the customer to gain greater control of their critical application, significantly improve business operational efficiencies in terms of time and effort needed. In our turn, we have successfully demonstrated and proved that Ispirer Toolkit is a flexible tool and can be easily adapted to any customer's requirements. ### PowerBuilder to C# WPF Customer One of the leading and innovative companies in integrated pharmacy technology, based in Canada. Challenge The customer’s management concluded that their development environment was not flexible enough, and thus initiated the consolidation of the system from PowerBuilder to C# .NET. Solution All major projects begin with a Proof-of-Concept (POC) stage, which demonstrates Ispirer's reliability and competence to the customer. The scope of the POC was about 10,000 lines of PowerBuilder code, and the time limit was 6 weeks. At the beginning of the stage, the level of the tool automation was not high enough to meet our customer’s requirements. Therefore, several customizations were made, with many conversion rules added. The Ispirer specialists completed the POC and demonstrated how the level of automation could reach the maximum within a few weeks. After that, the customer acquired a 6-month license with support for converting about 1,800,000 lines of PowerBuilder code to C#. During the implementation of the project, it was recognized the need to select the MVC design pattern, and as a consequence the customization of Ispirer Toolkit for this purpose. As a result, the MVC UI pattern was automated in the tool. In the PowerBuilder code, a lot of data was selected in the queries in DataWindows objects. The Ispirer specialists built a special .NET framework for this process with proper performance. Close interaction with the customer's team through WebEx ttsessions allowed Ispirer to quickly and effectively solve the problems. In other words, all customer requirements were taken into account, Ispirer Toolkit was set up in a short period of time, and after each adjustment a modified version was provided to the company. Results and benefits The solution supplied by Ispirer fully complied with the expectations of the customer and made it possible to overcome the main problem of consolidating systems to .NET. ### C++ to C# Customer A Dutch IT company whose products help to create and share digital design. Challenge For many years, the company has been developing software for designers and recently has decided to modernize their product by moving application from C++ to C#. Solution The first stage consisted of carrying out a Proof-of-Concept, which meant converting 13,000 lines of code from C++ to C#. During the process, Ispirer Toolkit was significantly improved by introducing new conversion rules. Moreover, MVVM design pattern over target WPF technology was applied to GUI part of the code. Thus, not only the possibility of migrating C++ to C# was demonstrated, but also the possibility of its high automation. Thanks to this, we were able to complete the project much cheaper and faster. After the PoC, the Ispirer team continued to develop the toolkit and automatically convert the remaining more than 200,000 lines of code. The results were improved manually where it was needed. Alongside with the code conversion, the Ispirer team completed additional works: code refactoring and conformation were performed; special framework and test runner for GUI testing were developed. As a result of the service provided by Ispirer, C++ has been successfully converted to C#. The total amount of code in the application has been reduced, the outdated one has been detected and removed, it has become clearer. The customer notes that the overall performance of the application has been improved, it has become faster and more stable. This has become a reality by switching to the new technology, refactoring, and adjustment of the converted code. Results and benefits The provided Service enabled the customer to meet the increasing requirements of their clients and remain competitive in their sphere. In the meantime, the Ispirer team has gained tremendous experience migrating from the C++ application to C#. And now we can guarantee effective conversion results in the implementation of similar projects. ### Delphi to C# Customer A German company that offers innovative automation solutions for all industries. The company develops state-of-the-art systems for operation, disposition, monitoring and control. Activity emphases are the technical planning and software development for all industries, which require automation solutions. Challenge The customer needed to reanimate their software by moving from the Delphi application to C#. Solution The first stage consisted of carrying out a Proof-of-Concept. Through this process 10,000 lines of code from Delphi to C# were converted. In particular for this project, the Ispirer team expanded MnMTK to convert TQuickRep reports to Visual Studio RDLC report files, as well all the source Delphi code to WinForms. At the first migration stage, Ispirer successfully converted 800,000 lines of the Delphi code to C#, and 300,000 lines of code of TQuickRep reports from Delphi to Visual Studio RDLC report files. At the second stage, 300,000 lines of the Delphi code to C# and TQuickRep reports from Delphi to Visual Studio RDLC report files. The customer turned to Ispirer for the same service on two occasions. The total project scope was 1,400,000 lines of converted code. Results and benefits As a result of the service provided by Ispirer, the company managed to quickly and easily process the received code.
