The application, after downloading delivery information, should activate the camera on the mobile device upon the user's request and scan the Data Matrix codes in the shortest possible time. Then, the application displays a summary of the scanning stage to the user. After the user approves, the information obtained from the Data Matrix codes is sent from the mobile device to the customer's ERP system.

Releasing successive versions of the application to users for testing, taking into account reported issues.

• The time taken by the device to scan the required number of Data Matrix codes.

The project was delivered and completed according to the order. Communication with the supplier was perfect. The supplier's response time to reported comments was quick. The implementation of the reported comments was also very fast and effective.

The project was not delivered on time but that was due to many reasons, partly because we had delays in our responses, partly because we did not book enough time of their team. Holdapp always responded in a timely manner to all of our questions or messages.

They have internal processes implemented to cover communication, detailed work time analysis, and internal testing.

Make sure that all people attending meetings are able to speak English fluently. That was not always the case, but we managed as there was always good will to communicate.

I’m the co-founder and the chief product officer of a professional coaching and mental well-being platform.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Holdapp?

We had a challenge with member engagement. We had a web platform that provides access to vetted professional coaches to enterprise employees and business coaches. In order to increase engagement, we decided that we needed to develop a mobile app. We then hired Holdapp to help us.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The Holdapp team built a cross-platform app using Flutter. The main purpose of the app was to improve our members’ experience, and our existing web app served as a reference while the team was working on our project. We also provided the team with an open API so that they could connect the app to our web platform's backend.

In addition, Holdapp was in charge of developing the platform’s wireframes. We released the app in January, and we’ve extended our cooperation so that they could implement web design updates and provide app support.

We’re working with 6–7 people, including their project manager, QA lead, account manager, and designer.

We began working in May 2021, and we continue to collaborate.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After we published the app that Holdapp has developed, our members have given us extremely high ratings because we have a user-friendly platform.

How did Holdapp perform from a project management standpoint?

Their team is collaborative. In fact, we’ve found ways to make sure deadlines are met. We use Jira for project management and Slack to communicate. In relation to that, everything has been easy and there are no communication gaps between us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're impressed that we're working towards a common goal. As a result, we don’t feel like they’re working as a separate team. They're also very diligent in providing monthly reports.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They can improve the details of their business analysis process so that we can identify important specifications before development starts. Other than that, they provide a good experience.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Start with a design workshop and make sure everybody’s on the same page from the very beginning of the project.

Holdapp works with software engineers who have the skills we require. Our main goal was to provide a comprehensive wearable app solutions for people who want to take advantage of the new technologies in order to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

We were taking several companies into account, but Holdapp team had specialists with the exact knowledge we needed. Moreover, from the very beginning they showed a great interest in our projects and their engagement distinguished them from the others.

We cooperate on two projects simultaneously. In the first one Holdapp helps to build a fitness app for wearables. The second project is focused on creating different kinds of watch faces for smartwatches. All was based on Wear OS from Google.

Holdapp is responsible for the development of Android apps for wearables. They work with our team of developers, a UI designer and a project manager. I work with two Android Developers.

What I value the most is their reliability. Developers are self-reliant and able to make their own decisions. They can solve even complex problems.

During work on the application, I worked on behalf of Pixers.LTD - a multinational marketplace for home and decor industry, operating in several countries in EU and US. My role was to manage applications and supervise the implementation of their development.

As a company that always focuses on an innovative approach to technology, we needed a partner who could handle the implementation of a mobile application that did not have market equivalents at the time. Talks were held with potential vendors and Holdapp was selected thanks to the best approach to implementation, activity and ideas for solving potential problems that they presented at that stage. Recommendations from the industry were also helpful

Unfortunately, this is not public information.

Project management was carried out in specific software. At each stage, the developers' work was public and it was possible to view current works.

They show creativity through innovative solutions and ingenuity in solving problems. The quality of the application and the declared implementation time do not suffer.

What challenge were you trying to address with Holdapp?

When I lived in Costa Rica, I was approached by a friend who had a lot of money. He knew me since I was a kid. He told me that he was interested in creating a system that would be user friendly for people who are eager to make additional side money. We wanted to create a system that would be able to create such opportunities for those people.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Holdapp developed our mobile app for iOS and Android. The app is a very easy place for people to meet. If a user needs help to clean their house, they push a button and the system will generate information to get the proper people who can help them. 

The team worked from my CEO’s ideas and designed and developed the apps. We stopped along the way because we ran out of money. However, we took an EU grant and continued the project.

We work with 4–5 people. I mainly interacted with Artur (Founder/Managing Director).

We’ve spent over $50,000 so far.

We started working together in January 2016 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Holdapp was a good choice. They are very reliable, never mess up, and don’t overcharge us. The app is a phenomenon. When we needed to make improvements when we didn’t have any money left, the team was very supportive and showed us some directions.

How did Holdapp perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is phenomenal. Whenever we have any issues, we go directly to Artur and he tells us not to worry about it. There have been no communication issues.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Everything has gone very smoothly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s nothing I’d have them improve. Any issues we’ve had have been on our side. We weren’t ready for them to implement the new ideas and profiles, or for all the energy they were going to bring to this project.

Before you initiate the engagement, invite them to dinner. Sit down with them and become friends.

Founder - TrackingDays TrackingDays is a travel tracking and day counting solution for expats, non-resident and frequent travellers.

For what projects/services did your company hire Holdapp?

HoldApp took over full mobile iPhone development of the TrackingDays App when our previous developer team let us down and could not complete the project re-build for TrackingDays 2.0. This project is now released and HoldApp maintain and further develop the App at our request. HoldApp are also now developing our Android version as well as a new as yet unreleased project for iPhone.

What were your goals for this project?

TrackingDays is a start-up business venture. Our goals were to turn our unique concept and idea into a high quality and saleable App. To do this as cost effectively as possible.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We were recommended HoldApp by our outgoing developer team.

This project is ongoing. Due to our location in different countries, all of our work has been remote. My vision for the project was quite clear and we were rebuilding an existing product. After a number of initial over phone conversations we manage the project on an ongoing basis mostly over Slack.

It works very well. HoldApp have rebuild the TrackingDays app from the ground up, for what is now a better, more stable and robust and ultimately now saleable product.

What was the team composition?

I like a 'lite' team. Whilst we have a team of 7 following the development on our slack project feed. I work directly with main developer / coder and a project manager. For me this works very well as I don't like too many layers of management, I prefer to stay flexible and move fast as is possible for a start-up. HoldApp will draw on other members of the team if it's required, but our core team for the iPhone development is 2 people. Artur is always contactable if required. All of the team are on Slack.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

HoldApp have delivered a greatly improved, stable and successfully updated App. They have managed a very tricky migration from an entirely different platform, moving from TrackingDays 1.0 to 2.0. The uptake of the new App has been very positive, the App is now revenue generating and moving in a positive direction (excluding the COVID-19 blip).

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Fast and effective. Our workflow is clearly managed on Slack, my preferred choice and responses are quickly actioned.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I would say they are highly knowledgable in their field. They are reliable, fair and above all trustworthy partners, given that the whole project has been managed remotely.

I'm pretty satisfied with their work.

We hired backend and iOS developers to extend our team. Project management and some parts of development were made internally. Holdapp consultants were hired to fill the gaps in our process.

Our new backend system was launch with success and all clients were switched to that new software.

Whole cooperation was very effective. They’re straightforward and easy to deal with. We had a strong cultural alignment with them, and they were very attuned to what we were trying to do. We were very happy with the engagement and overall professionalism.

Very impressive for us was that they had experience working with relevant technologies. They knew what they were talking about. Also I was impressed by how quickly they were able to come up to speed in understanding our business.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Not yet; our apps has been just released few days ago. But we are expecting the huge benefit coming in to our business as an effect of that new products.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Their team understanding of its importance stood out to us. The workflow was convenient and accommodating; but what is the most important: it was working. Team was always willing to adjust their approach to ours, but they also suggested improvements they found effective in the past. We had a great support from the team. Holdapp team met daily for a short status of work and to share with other their plan for the day; whole team working on the project (ux, ui designers, qa, developers, project manager, backend developers) met every 2 weeks with a review, planning and retrospective meetings. We also had irregular as-needed meetings.  

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We admire Holdapp’s team ability to understand the project and work together as a partner rather than a vendor. Also their transparency helped us to be incredibly confident that they were doing their best work for us at all times. The team’s extensive knowledge of their field was also noteworthy.

Not really. They’ve our exceeded expectations and continue to do so. They’re a great partner, one we truly appreciate.

After we provided the desired functionality Holdapp was responsible for applications design and development. They are strictly cooperating with our Product Manager but they are very creative and very often provides very good suggestions and solutions.

Project team includes several persons – dedicated project manager, graphic designer, two teams developers for different mobile platforms.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Mobile application had a serious positive impact on company turnover. Also the volume of customers increased.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management is very professional. Sprints, meeting deadlines, we are using Jira, Slack, Skype. They are very elastic to customer requirements.

Speed and quality.

There is not much to improve. We expand really fast and sometimes applications have bugs – but really – every software has bugs. But Holadpp do really quickly solves the problems.
