I'm the CEO of Okala. We develop cutting-edge software for nature data reporting using AI and sensor technologies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Hex Digital?

Our in-house engineering team had done a great job building our software platform, but we needed specific expertise in front-end development that we didn't have in-house before launching our platform to the public.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Hex Digital provided front-end development services. The team worked on UI standardization, ensuring consistent design across defined pages by refining spacing, labels, buttons, and form fields. Hex Digital also standardized components such as menus, modals, and icons for a cohesive user experience.

Moreover, the team enhanced navigation and UX by improving usability with better search, filters, pagination, and table layouts. Hex Digital optimized screen space and introduced a new menu system to enhance accessibility and efficiency. The team also worked on a scalable design system.

We worked with three people from Hex Digital.

How did you come to work with Hex Digital?

We originally met Hex Digital almost two years ago through an introduction from one of our board members. We kept track of their work via LinkedIn, and earlier this year, we had a need that particularly suited their service. Given they had worked with some highly respected clients in our sector, we decided to seek their help.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together in April 2025.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our user experience on the front-end was significantly improved across different operating systems and browsers. We successfully launched our beta testing campaign with 50 users signing up to be official testers and received excellent feedback on the stunning user interface.

How did Hex Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Hex Digital excelled in delivering the project, working rapidly and communicating clearly and efficiently throughout the project via email and video calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to jump into our codebase and provide rapid input was especially impressive. Allowing external providers to work on code built in-house can be nerve-wracking, but Hex Digital was extremely professional and efficient.

We were delighted with the service from contracting to delivery.

Hex turned a concept for news/journalism website into a beuatifully rounded finished product complete with CMS. They took our brief of want we did and did not want our site to look like and brought it to life. The project was borken down into managble chunks for us to engage with. Hex kept meetings short and foucsed on the key decisions we needed to make to move forward at each stage. We are journalists not technolgy/web experts and Hex made the process of bringing our vision of how we wanted to deliver the news easy for us to understand. Hex hit all deadlines through out the project.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

That we have a useable website which was delivered ontime and is attracting a lot of praise from peers in our industry

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Hex team was hugely responsive to our needs. Lucy - the lead project manager-- kept everything on track and her Trello board allowed us to easily keep track of the project. Giuseppe created Loom training videos for us when the CMS was handed over. These are embed in CMS and are beign used by new hires to our team to familiarise themsleves with the system. Stefan showed endless paitience walking us through categorisation options for our site.

Everyone we dealt with at Hex was warm and focused on achieving our project.

Following an extensive audit of Pembroke's digital presence, I discovered that it had a fractured ecosystem, which wasn't aligned to the business priorities. I searched within the US, UK and Europe for an agency that had the understanding of working with a global company, which catered to multiple audiences in different locations, each of which had different objectives from the website. 

The brief was explicit, we required the assistance to create a new website and digital strategy, based on existing data, as well as provide a solution that was flexible enough to align with websites that had to remain and smooth out the customer journey and user experience. Hex's response to the brief was exactly what we were looking for. 

They very quickly understood the challenges with our existing website and provided us with recommendations for improvement, taking the strengths of our existing website and optimising them for ease of the user, clearly demonstrating what elements required improvement and provided solution's for elements that confused the journey as well as provided a refreshed, dynamic and contemporary design.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

The project management of the website was the easiest I have experienced. The team embedded themselves within Pembroke and quickly became an extension to the team, they were knowledgeable, passionate, and went above and beyond, especially when hit with a curve ball. 

Their agile approach to project management and delivery made my role easier, 9 times out of 10, they pre-empted additional questions I had and if they didn't know the answer, they would find out and always come back to me in a timely manner, and if they couldn't achieve what was requested, they would always provide me with an alternative.

The team always met deadlines provided and if there was unforeseen circumstances, Hex was quick to inform me if the deadlines wouldn’t be met, but would always provide a date to when the deliverable would be met
