The project involves the reconfiguration and enhancement of Mariner Packaging Limited’s Sage 200 system and ecommerce integration, including the separation of the existing single-company structure into three distinct entities (Mariner Industries, Mariner Packaging, and PowAir), implementation of Sicon Intercompany and Enhancement Pack for intercompany stock and transaction management, and the deployment of KC Smart Link to replace the existing unsupported web integration. Key deliverables include full system design and configuration, intercompany functionality, ecommerce integration with WooCommerce, product and order mapping, stock and pricing synchronisation, user training, user acceptance testing, and final go-live support.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

he project delivered several measurable improvements across system accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. The separation of Sage 200 into three distinct companies eliminated prior stock imbalances and reporting errors, resulting in accurate profit and loss reporting for each entity. Implementation of Sicon Intercompany streamlined stock transfers between Mariner Industries, Mariner Packaging, and PowAir, reducing manual processing and duplication of purchase and sales orders. The introduction of KC Smart Link replaced an unsupported integration, enabling reliable automated order imports, real-time stock synchronisation across multiple warehouses, and consistent handling of pricing, discounts, and customer data. Order processing efficiency improved through automated workflows, reducing errors and manual intervention, while enhanced visibility (via import notifications and error alerts) allowed faster issue resolution. Overall, the system is now more robust, scalable, and aligned with ecommerce operations, supporting increased order volumes and multi-entity growth with improved data integrity and operational control.

HBP Systems demonstrated a structured and responsive approach to project management throughout the engagement. The project was well-defined from the outset, with clear scoping, timelines, and a phased delivery approach covering system design, configuration, integration, testing, and go-live. Key milestones, including the Smart Link test setup and Sage intercompany configuration, were scheduled with realistic lead times and communicated clearly. Deliverables were provided in line with agreed timelines, with a two-week lead time for initial Smart Link testing and coordinated scheduling for the Sage system changes. The team maintained good communication throughout, ensuring alignment on priorities and progress. They were responsive to our needs, addressing queries promptly—such as confirming functionality around discounts, product mapping, and order handling—and adapting solutions where required (e.g. handling non-stock items and ecommerce-specific requirements). Their collaborative approach, including workshops, testing support, and ongoing consultation, ensured the solution was tailored to our operational requirements and implemented smoothly.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What stood out most about HBP Systems was their deep understanding of both Sage 200 and the practical realities of multi-entity, ecommerce-driven businesses. Rather than offering a generic solution, they took the time to tailor the system around our specific structure, workflows, and challenges. Their ability to seamlessly combine Sage configuration, intercompany processes, and ecommerce integration into a single, cohesive solution was particularly impressive. They also demonstrated strong technical flexibility—quickly addressing edge cases such as product mapping, discount handling, and order processing nuances—without overcomplicating the system. Overall, their consultative approach, attention to detail, and ability to translate complex requirements into a working, scalable solution made them stand out.

Are there any areas for improvement or something The HBP Group could have done differently?

The migration had a number of hicups, which left our system down for about a week. More attention to detail in the migration could have negated this issue

I’m the technical and operations director of Optimax IIM Ltd. We provide advanced optical inspection and non-contact metrology solutions to a wide range of industries and sectors, including aerospace, medical, automotive, and motorsport.

We needed help removing our on-premise server and transferring everything to a cloud-based Microsoft 365 system.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The HBP Group has helped us purchase Microsoft 365 licenses, enroll all our devices into the new cloud system, and update our security. The team has also transferred files from our server to the cloud and set up SharePoint and OneDrive.
