I am the founder and CEO of USA Rx, a digital health marketplace.

We started our SEO efforts from scratch in the beginning of 2020. Our goal was to build the initial foundation of a new and improved health media site attached to our digital health marketplace product.

We interviewed many agencies to help us with this ongoing project. Deciding factors were communication from team, willingness to teach, and general expertise level in SEO.

We have a monthly set of goals with GRO, generally hitting between 20-40 articles across a wide range of topics within health. Every month we research the topics together, analyze Keywords and Keyword Gap Analysis against relevant competition, and then overlay every potential article on top of our monetization strategy.

I say we are probably now at 10 members of GR0. I think a wide array of positions, from the CEO and Cofounders (both), all the way down to account managers.

20x our organic search in 2020 so far and we continue to have huge gains monthly heading into 2021.

Very seamless all around. Communication was one of the key factors in my selection of GR0. I've worked with countless other agencies and more so than not communication is the ultimate reason for failure.

Straight forward approach, willingness to dig in with our team. Also, there is NO "magical" BS sales pitch of 'huge SEO gains in 2 months'....

So far so good.

What challenge were you trying to address with GR0?

We had virtually zero SEO efforts on our campaign and our search results were pretty low. We just wanted to get more organic traffic through the search engine.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Initially, they laid out a pretty clear scope of work and what we can expect. For example, the team identifies the number of articles per month and what pages they’re going to optimize for Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) which enables Google to index our page better.

We’ve worked with 18–20 people. 

How did you come to work with GR0?

We got referred to them by another friend of ours, who is an existing client of theirs. We went through with the partnership because their pitch was so exceptional and they were ex-Google employees. In connection with that, we believe they understand how to do the work because they have shown a track record to do so. Based on their credentials as well as the portfolio of companies they have worked with, it made sense to go with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $16,000–$17,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June 2020, and we’re going to continue our work until whenever.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

GR0 has been a great help so far, but it’s a long learning curve for us because we don’t really know how SEO works. On top of working with us, they've also taught us a lot. The number of revenue through organic searches is crucial, so we 3x our revenue through organic channels, and that’s pretty much largely attributed to GR0.

We’re pretty happy with the results they’ve produced for us. They laid out clear expectations — they met and exceeded those expectations greatly, even giving out extra services when some deadlines are missed and other exceptional scenarios. Overall, they’ve always gone above and beyond to make sure that we’re satisfied.

How did GR0 perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re integrated into our Slack channel. They really brought in their team so that any questions I have can be answered and can be handled. I think turnaround time is pretty crucial for them, so they’re always making sure that the right people are assigned to tasks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It really feels like they’re an extension of our team rather than an agency. Agency and client relationships typically aren’t intimate — they are based on tasks and deliverables. However,  I feel like I could really go to GR0 for any questions, any time, and always get really good responses. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s really nothing negative that I could say about GR0, to be honest.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Overcommunicate on what your product and brand are, so that they can find the appropriate keywords to service your needs. What they’re really doing is to help craft the angle of your brand in the search engines. As a result, the more information that you can provide them, the better that they can research.

I’m the senior growth marketing lead for a pet insurance company, and I handle the SEO and PPC.

What challenge were you trying to address with GR0?

One of the challenges we’re trying to scale up is our link building and overall SEO. Because we have a small team, GR0 has been a big support in just utilizing a number of different SEO services that they have to help our team achieve its goals.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I reached out to GR0 almost immediately when I got hired. From there, the conversation just started. We linked up on where I needed support to help scale out certain things. They help us with everything from link building to content suggestions. They also provide us with a PR newswire and other services.

One of our main priorities is content marketing where they write some great content and figure out how we can market that content out there. We’ve expanded the scope a little bit to include certain things, but our main goal is to continue the pace we’re on and expand upon it.

What is the team composition?

We work with about 3–4 people every time — a good amount with different expertise. Kevin (Co-Founder & CEO) is the lead person whenever we get contracts signed, and he is very active throughout the count. I also work with Michael (SEO Campaign Manager), Gerald (Head of Link Acquisition), and Jonathan (Head of Operations).

How did you come to work with GR0?

I knew Kevin through a previous relationship, and I also knew that he is really solid at SEO. One of the reasons I chose GR0 over other people was because I loved their mantra from the beginning. 

Unlike a typical agency, they’re very clear and transparent about what they can do. I was really excited about working with a company that didn’t overpromise or underpromise, and are just really transparent about what they could do for you as their client. Also, considering their previous track record with clients, it was a no-brainer for me to engage with them.

How much have you invested with them?

The retainer is around $6,000 a month for their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We brought GR0 in sometime around June 2020. We’re still working with them, and we’re hoping for this to be a really long-term relationship.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’ve been great, and we’ve had some success. We’re looking at domain authority (DA) or domain rating (DR) as some of the main metrics, like most people in the community. However, our big one is organic traffic, and it’s been an incredible journey considering what we’ve been able to do.

We launched the blog right at the beginning of my time here. Once we brought in GR0, we went from 0 to 100,000 in organic monthly visits. It has been a very successful six months.

How did GR0 perform from a project management standpoint?

Michael’s a great account manager — he responds to emails really fast. It’s almost like he’s a bot. We have good cadence with weekly check-ins through Slack, which is my preferred method. If we have something that doesn’t need an immediate response, we use emails. They’re also always available through phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s hard to pinpoint one thing because they’re good at multiple things, but I think they differ from other agencies in how they’re an extension of your current marketing staff. All our goals are aligned, there’s transparency in the process, and it’s not just about money or being the best. They just want to be long-term partners, and it’s very refreshing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think there’s anything that I could call out right now. So far, the relationship has been really great, and everything’s smooth sailing at this point. If I had to be nitpicky, I would love to do more. But that’s our current bandwidth, and our budget doesn’t allow us to expand upon more.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think the best advice would be to get on a phone call with them. It’s not a hard sell, and they explain everything clearly. They’ll be transparent about what they can offer and the results that you can get. 

Talking to them is the best step, and there’s nothing wrong with having a consultation to see where you’re at and determine if you’re a good fit. Everyone might not be, but if you are, I think you’ll be very happy working with them.

How did your relationship with your partner evolve?

The first two years of services were great and we saw great performance, the last 6 months service quality (team members) and results took a nose dive. We brought up issues with work and their outsourcing of work to AI, several times and were very defensive and not willing to let us out of our contract and attempts to improve performance were weak.

 In what ways can they improve?

It seemed like they were not well-versed in AEO; they overpromised their abilities. When I questioned about our decline in KPI's they said all their brands have seen a decline, which just tells me they don't have the right strategy and can't deliver in AEO.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

They have not been able to keep up with marketing evolution, the team feels untrained and lacking in advancements. Working with them this year actually resulted in declining KPI's, even though the business was up 100% YoY.
