I’m the CTO of Chromex. We build web-scrapping tools and machines that explore the web and collect information. Then, those tools summarize that information for our customers. Usually, our customers are financial companies active in their stock functions, so they want to analyze the news, social media, and people’s behavior. We also have some customers in marketing and other industries.

What challenge were you trying to address with Galliot?

We use cloud infrastructure to run our applications. However, we had some difficulties upgrading our technology stack and reducing our cloud costs. Moreover, we were using two different cloud providers — AWS and Google Cloud Platform — and managing our backend systems on two different providers was a bit challenging as well.

Those issues became blockers for our sales and marketing team to advance in the market we’re pursuing. So we started looking for support for our cloud infrastructure.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Galliot provides us with cloud infrastructure services, as well as backend development. Their team has helped us renew our technology stack, which has involved purchasing and deploying new software. Specifically, they’ve moved us to Kubernetes.

What is the team composition?

We work with four teammates from Galliot, including a senior software architect, two cloud/DevOps engineers, and a technical lead/project and product manager who works part-time on the project.

How did you come to work with Galliot?

A friend recommended Galliot, so we reached out to them and asked them to analyze our situation. After a couple of meetings, we started our engagement with a small pilot project. Gradually, they became our main support for our cloud infrastructure.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $100,000. We started paying them around $10,000–$15,000 per month, but we’re now paying them around $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working around October 2022, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Galliot has been very successful at reducing our cloud infrastructure costs. By moving us to Kubernetes, they’ve made scaling much more affordable for us, reducing our monthly bills by around 30%.

Additionally, Galliot has made our environment much more secure and efficient for our developers. We’ve increased the number of software releases per quarter by 30%, so they’ve effectively shortened our time to release new products. We’ve even seen a reduction in our release periods from four weeks to two weeks.

How did Galliot perform from a project management standpoint?

Galliot’s performance has exceeded our expectations — that’s why we’ve expanded our engagement with them. Initially, their goal was cost reduction. Given that they delivered what we had in mind in a better way and time frame, we expanded our project and engaged with them for backend development as well.

Our team works very closely with Galliot, and their services are both on-site and remote, as needed. We have daily meetings with them and use Jira for tracking issues. We’ve also built a GitHub repository for code review, and we use Notion as our knowledge management platform, where we can collect the documentation and everything else for our joint effort on this project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Galliot’s dedication to the final product is their biggest strength. We’ve had a lot of iteration and discussions around challenging situations. Still, throughout the whole project, Galliot has brought their expertise to our software development processes.

Their team has focused and dedicated their attention and time to the final product. After the first 3–4 months of our engagement, we started to see great results. Since then, we’ve relied on Galliot, and we now trust them a lot.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s nothing I can specifically point out for Galliot to improve on. Although we could improve some aspects of our collaboration, those are minor issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Building a digital product is very challenging, and you don’t know where it’ll land. Thus, the most important part is to have a trustworthy partner who can go with you through this journey. Picking the right partner and building trust from the beginning of the relationship is very important, and it comes with a lot of positive results and outcomes eventually.

I’m the head of engineering product and design at Kandu Health, a digital health startup focused on care navigation for stroke survivors. We’re a subsidiary of Imperative Care; they have a presence in the Bay Area.

What challenge were you trying to address with Galliot?

When I first joined Imperative Care, we were trying to build the platform from scratch. At the time, it was just an idea. We wanted the platform to include a mobile app for patients and a web dashboard for internal clinicians, all in one ecosystem.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The first step of the project was creating a simple prototype. It was a three-week engagement. We asked Galliot to build the proof of concept. We liked their process and how they worked with us, so we decided to engage them separately for a longer-term contract to build out our MVP.

They started development in February 2021. Some significant milestones were beginning to define the high-level architecture we wanted to build, like the mobile app and web dashboard. Then, we determined the MVP features to begin our sprint development process. We’ve had an ongoing partnership since then. The next major milestone was achieved around September 2021; we had the first soft MVP. In June 2022, we launched the first real MVP.

We mainly use Ruby on Rails for the backend and React Native on the frontend. Patients can access learning content from their navigator; it’s pushed to them in the mobile app so they can learn about their stroke and how to get back to life sequentially after it. We have a virtual community in the app so that survivors can connect with other survivors and care partners. Also, some self-guided tools allow survivors to manage their daily life. For example, they can create to-do lists, document questions that they have for their treatment team, and save the answers to those questions.

What is the team composition?

Our main point of contact is a project manager; he runs all of the engineering sprints and coordinates everything. Also, we work with four frontend engineers, four backend engineers, and two QA specialists. We work with one designer at any given time, but we’ve worked with three different designers over the last year.

How did you come to work with Galliot?

We were looking for engineer vendors, so I contacted an acquaintance. He referred us to Galliot.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in November 2020, and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We haven’t launched into production, so we don’t have metrics from users yet. However, we’ve launched successfully, and we’ve been very happy with their work. We see them as a partner, not just a client/vendor relationship. They work closely with us; we see them as an extension of our team.

Moreover, they have great foresight in ensuring we’re building the right thing at the right time, not over- or under-engineering anything. They have a great team of engineers, QA specialists, and designers that work with us personally, and it’s easy to get along with them. Overall, they’ve done great work building our robust platform over the last year and a half.

How did Galliot perform from a project management standpoint?

We mainly use Jira for ticket management and GitHub for our code, but we also use Notion for documentation. We communicate over a mix of Slack and video calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

With other vendors, it wasn’t clear how long something would take or who would do it. On the other hand, we’re a well-oiled machine with Galliot. The project management is well organized, and they also have competitive rates, which is important.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s been fine in general, but the current design work lacks a bit. We initially had a different designer. We were happy with that person; we’re not as happy with the new designer.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Try to be as detailed as possible. Starting to build out something can be challenging because you don’t know everything, but you should try to lay out everything in your head, including the current and future needs. Don’t assume they’re just engineers; they have excellent thoughts on architecting a platform. They can guide you on where to go, but the more information you give them, the better the engagement will be.

Klimate Consulting is a sustainability consulting firm focused on decarbonizing our economy. Klimate Consulting offers Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) technical assistance with a special focus on agriculture, energy, water, and food system. We needed to digitize and aggregate emission factors and other emission-related data from various data sources. This is a big undertaking for the sustainability industry. Galliot helped us build a web application that consolidated all the data that we needed seamlessly in one place. This includes product design, development, and testing of the web application and deployment on Klimate Consulting infrastructure.

Through the referral of other friends that are working on the same problems in related industries. We decided to move forward with Galliot because of its track record of successful and timely deployment of the final product. And they showed dedication and professionalism in the POC stage.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

They helped our team to develop a product roadmap although they did not have experience in our industry. They were able to deliver the product although we had 20-25% deviation from the initial scope that we planned for. Overall very satisfied with the entire process.

They helped us to implement an agile methodology for product development, and communication was through weekly, daily zoom meetings.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Being able to come up to speed in an industry that none of their engineers had prior experience working in. We are impressed by how fast the team can learn new topics and incorporate them into the final product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

This was their first experience in this industry. The onboarding took a bit of time, however, it was not a hurdle for the project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Galliot supplied a mid-level engineer to We needed a system to package their code using our software development kit (SDK). The system required a toolkit to integrated with our API and display the results in our interface. They built the system using Python.

We only had one developer. He worked with three members of our internal team.

The project began in February 2020. We extended it another month and it's ongoing.

Galliot enabled us to move faster on the development of the platform. Since they were one-fourth of the resources we deployed on the project, they helped us move faster. Their initial task was the proof-of-concept and it was achieved.

The project management was done through Jira. They have access to our Jira so we can assign what we want them to work on. The communication has been good.

They were spot-on with the knowledge and expertise we asked for. The engineer was a good fit and he was up and running very quickly.

We had 16 separate entities under LLC and each one had their own financials and set of investors. We were managing everything through Excel and doing the accounting over QuickBooks. As we grew, we created this holding company and wanted to integrate everything into the same system and same management.

They helped us migrate our financial data from QuickBooks and Excel over to a new system. They cleaned everything up and brought it all under the same umbrella for an easier data management strategy. We’re trying to get on the Sage Intacct system as our financial ERP. The process isn’t complete yet.
