Clear communication regarding the reasons for reassignment and the expected impact on project timelines would help foster greater understanding and collaboration between Esipick and its clients.

We needed to quickly build a team to help us with our website, then later on our app.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We went through a thorough and objective testing process, as we do for all of our recrutement. The team came out on top.

It was a pretty long work in progress. The team helped us create pages in emergency, deal with emergency shut downs, set up metrics and analytics... They reworked the app like a ship of Theseus, changing one screen after another, progressively turning it into a completely remade app. They also created different versions of the web app and help integrating them.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I'm not sure. I only had a single point of contact, which made the whole process much easier. I know that at least two specialists worked in the background.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

In the past two years we multiplied the amount of use of our app by an order of magnitude, basically. However we never receive any negative feedback about the working of the app in the customer support. The traffic on the website increased tremendously too, but we don't have any request that falls into the crack anymore, like it sometimes happened before.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Our point of contact became part of our team, basically. I contacted him on Slack, like I contact any other member of my team. It took a little bit of time before we found a work rythme that worked for both team, but now we managed. I write a fully detailed request of the work I need and they work on it point by point, in their own time. They are also very available and reactive in case of emergency, as they proved time and time again.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Good quality code. Good quality design. Good job when you give them enough time to breathe. Basically if I send them a clear problem they can create a clear and clean solution.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Several members of our team complained of the lack of reactivity. Again, I think it was just a matter of us finding the right work rythme. Having a unique point of contact gave us the feeling that we were working with a single person, while we should have taken into account that them being a whole team meant a little bit of inertia and therefore a bit of patience on our side.

I’m the managing director of a website that compares prices between thousands of online shops and products across the Nordic countries.

What challenge were you trying to address with ESIPICK?

We’d hired freelancers to do some development, but none of them did the work properly. We ended up having to redo most of what they produced. We needed a dev partner we could count on.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

ESIPICK refactored a lot of old code (that was written in all kinds of languages) and put it all together in PHP. They also did some database-related tasks and worked on our C++ technology.

What is the team composition?

They had five people on their team, including a project manager.

How did you come to work with ESIPICK?

We found them on Upwork. We ran them through a series of questions and tests, which they succeeded with, so we hired them. They began on a trial basis and, as they proved their effectiveness, we gave them more work.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent under $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from 2015–2018. Our last project finished up about three months ago.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The code was much better than anything the previous developers had made.

How did ESIPICK perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager oversaw everything the developers did, and we had weekly meetings to track progress and discuss any issues. We also had direct contact with the developers for small things. We used tools like Slack and Skype to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They implemented exactly what we told them to. If they ran into issues, they’d talk to us instead of just circumventing or ignoring the problem. We had a lot of previous developers just leave bugs in the code because they didn’t know what to do. They had a good work ethic and always made time for us, which made us feel important.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

They cover their bases well at the beginning of a project to make sure they understand the project scope. Take time to get to know their team on a personal level so that you can cultivate a good working relationship.
