The work was to design and build a mobile application that supported our existing web application. The core functionality was to build a mobile application that could interact with both NFC chips and QR Codes. The mobile app served as a platform that could retrieve data from either an NFC chip or QR code, make a request for equipment information, present that information to the user, and allow the user to submit inspection forms tied to that piece of equipment. 

The key deliverables were:

• Clickable Figma designs for prototype
• Mobile appplication for both Android and iOS
• All features completed and functional as stated above.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We would have weekly meetings to go over sprint completions. The team would demonstrate the work completed and I would sign off once I felt the requirements were met.

The project management was amazing. The team was very involved in making sure we were delivered exactly what met our expectations. Many times, they would even help lead me in discovering features, UI/UX issues, timelines, etc. that I may otherwise overlooked. The really made sure we were delivered a top-tier product. We never missed a deadline that we didn't know about early on. Any deadline that was missed we would know as soon as the roadblock or issue was discovered and we all worked together to resolve quickly

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The support. I found that I would often get advice and help that was less scoped to just the development work I was paying for. I would often speak with Jeff and get entrepreneurial advice that would help me move forward. The most unique thing, from my perspective, was their desire to help you and your vision succeed, not just deliver on a statement of work. They went above and beyond consistently. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something ENO8 could have done differently?

It is difficult to critique something when the experience was exceptional. I don't have anything that sticks out in my mind as something I would want to see improvement on.

The team was incredibly responsive and worked toward solutions when barriers seemed insurmountable. The ideas and suggestions for best practices were extremely valuable to our team of non-technical business owners. The experience of the team was and is extremely beneficial.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Abhishek is a natural leader and project manager. He kept the team on task and was extremely helpful in solving problems as they came up. There was a healthy push/pull on both sides to get to an acceptable resolution. We have many hurdles to jump in front of us as we grow, but this team will be up for it. Ketan, Kushagra, and Ritu all worked diligently and responsively to meet our goals.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team was able to meet us where we were...non-technical business owners with a good idea but little experience in the development process. They educated us, lead us to resolutions, and worked with our ideas to build a fabulous platform.

Although it is understandable, a bit of turnover on the team seemed to slow things down.

I am the CTO for OpenKey, the market leader in the Hospitality Mobile Key space, providing both an embedded library interface to allow other products to integrate our solution in their mobile apps or providing a full mobile key solution including functional mobile app, web management console, etc.

For what projects/services did your company hire ENO8?

OpenKey is making the next generation improvements to our platform and is using ENO8 as our staff augmentation partner providing additional headcount to accelerate our progress by working alongside our internal development team and our internal technical leaders as we design and build our next cloud architecture solutions.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

They were chosen and in place before I was hired as CTO over a year ago, but I found them to be focused on OpenKey's success in deep partnership with our internal development team and leadership. It is an excellent to have such a strong technical partner in place to work with us and we have no interest in pursuing our future development with a different partner.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

We have completed the pilot enhancements in Q1 2022 and are currently developing the production replacement versions of our mobile apps, backend, web, and cloud infrastructure with the first release during Q4 2023. This is an ongoing plan to modernize and improve the capabilities to our platform to allow future product improvements to be developed more quickly and with greater quality. Included in this is enhanced automation testing for proved quality and improved cloud-based auto scaling technologies to improve responsiveness for customers.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

ENO8 provides roughly 12 part-time and full-time resources with specific skills in mobile development, backend development, testing, architecture and/or cloud deployment.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The new version of the application has been shown to our internal employees, our board and some clients and they have been impressed with the added functionality. We are not yet fully deployed, so we do not yet have a significant response from our full customer base.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

ENO8 was seamlessly integrated into our development team and processes, and they willingly adapt as we work to enhance our internal and external processes.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We act as a single integrated team. I have worked many places where we have consultants who are in a world by themselves, not here and not with ENO8. There is never been any question that ENO8 has always had OpenKey’s best interest in mind and deliver on that for us.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Like with any endeavor, there are bumps along the road, but because of the clear communication channels and willingness to adapt by all players, issues are always resolved successfully without ongoing impact.

Consequently, they brought in a team to build the MVP, and we’re now onboarding users for it.

Communication is good, and they have all the right tools. In addition, they meet their deadlines. Regarding tools, we use Jira, Google Meet, Slack, email, and text messaging.

They’re a responsive and responsible team, which makes them stand out from other providers.

They could improve their ability to scope the project from a timing perspective.

I was the CEO of PROVA Group, Inc., a company dedicated to providing authentication services and fighting counterfeit products.

We originally contracted ENO8 for a project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

ENO8 was contracted to develop a mobile app, which could be used to authenticate specific items. We initially deployed the app on iOS, and they were developing it for Android later. They started from scratch.

What is the team composition?

I primarily worked with two project leads, one in the US and the other in India.

How did you come to work with ENO8?

They were referred to me by a mutual acquaintance. 

How much have you invested with them?

The approximate number was $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our work together began in 2016, and it finished in 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of their work was very good. They worked effectively with us to develop the app. They did a good job of meeting our expectations on the first pass. There were some bug fixes and minor alterations that needed to be made after we saw the initial product. 

How did ENO8 perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated by email and telephone calls. We set specific milestones and deliverables, and on the whole, they did a good job. The process was fairly straightforward.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were easy to work with and diligent. The two people we worked with were good communicators.

Are there any areas they could improve?

For context, we had contracted two other companies before ENO8. We canceled the projects after a short period of time with those companies when we discovered they weren’t fulfilling their obligations to us. This was our third attempt to develop the same app, and ENO8 really did a very good job compared to the previous two companies.

I would say that the only criticism I might have had is that ENO8 had a lot on their plate with other clients. We had to make sure that we stayed on track with our projects and ensure that the resources we needed to keep our project going were allocated appropriately.

Any advice for potential customers?

It’s the same advice I’d give to anyone working with any contractor: you need to make sure your goals are very clearly stated and that you know what to expect out of it. Hold them accountable to your expectations. There’s no way to escape your own personal responsibilities for overseeing the project.

I work within the Department of Strategic Initiatives at a two-year higher education institution, Collin College. Our department oversees the deployment of SaaS solutions. We're also heavily involved in the development of innovative technologies and software solutions for the college's faculty, staff, and students.

What challenge were you trying to address with ENO8?

We recognized that our hybrid mobile application didn’t meet our students’ needs. It required multiple logins and didn’t utilize the advanced features of the native operating systems. My department started to develop a novel student mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a prototype that guided their work. ENO8 developed native instances on Android and iOS for our student-facing mobile app. Their team also managed the AWS instances that we spun-up for the purposes of the app. ENO8 also implemented an automated chatbot to answer questions from users.

The platform provides students with a day-to-day view of their schedule on campus. It allows them to review class details including instructor information, phone numbers, emails, and meeting times. Students can also quickly access our learning management system. They're also able to reach the bookstore to get information on any books needed for the semester.

In another view, students can see the status of their registration and sign up to stand in digital queues to meet with advisors. They can also see the status of their GPA as well as their progress towards their degree. Students can also contact our career services center.

What is the team composition?

On average, we worked with about six people from their development team. We typically had an Android developer, an iOS developer, an architect, backend developers, and 1–2 QA members of the team. We also communicated with one of their custom success managers.

How did you come to work with ENO8?

We initially met through a cold call and visit. Their team reached out to someone who referred them to us. Rishi (CEO) and Jeff  (Co-Founder) then came to my office where we talked about the prototype, implementation, and development. We listed an RFP and ENO8 was ultimately the company that won the RFP.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $200,000 on their services.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2017 and launched the app in January 2019. We worked together through August 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Since the platform's launch on the iOS App Store, we’ve had a total of about 3,300 downloads. It manages and maintains an average review of about four-stars.

We anticipated the Android version’s rockier start as a result of fragmentation. Many users ran the app on older Android devices, so the product initially had an average review of about three-stars. We increased our messaging to users about the best devices to use. Ultimately, we’ve had about 1,000 downloads.

How did ENO8 perform from a project management standpoint?

The customer success managers constantly kept me in the loop on where we stood from a budget perspective. They logged in with me to groom the backlog and ensure that expectations were maintained. Their team made sure that the development process was on track with what we anticipated.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One highlight was that ENO8 was communicative with my team. We were able to balance and maintain communication so that it would be easy if processes needed to be brought on with my team.

Additionally, their code was clean. It was easy for us to hop into the project and find specific pieces that we wanted to move into. They were also able to achieve the overall design that we built into the prototypes in the native version of the app. It was almost a one-to-one.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve their scalability. Following the conclusion of the contract, there were pieces of code written at that time based on variables. For example, we got a bug in the app that was ultimately the result of using an integer instead of the long keyword in Java for our student queue.

When they create a scope of work, their team might not want to use the default solution promoted by the cloud service. If we implemented the available stable versions of applications instead of defaults, the platform could’ve had a greater level of longevity. My team had to update all of the Lambda functions six months after the app’s release.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I have a background in design and development and built out what I anticipated early in the project. When working with any company, you should temper your expectations for an app’s initial release. Identify 3–5 key features that you can’t live without. If you have too many expectations, you may encounter scope creep, or you won’t be able to implement everything with 100% TLC.

I’m the CIO of Kanarys, which is a diversity and inclusion data and analytics platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with ENO8?

We were having issues with our original outsource development team. They weren’t meeting our demands and weren’t performing at the level we required. We needed to find a development team that was proven, had a solid framework for their processes, and could meet our expectations.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provide web app development, front- and backend development, for our platform, project management services, managed services for our infrastructure and platform. They used PHP Symfony. They took us through two-week sprints, helping us with our product roadmap, and ensuring that we release on time and without issues. Then they do problem resolution as we uncover any normal issues that have to do with our web platform.

What is the team composition?

It varies between 4–6 developers at any given time in addition to a project manager and both co-founders. 

How did you come to work with ENO8?

I was working on another project that required an API developer. We invited ENO8 to respond to our RFP. Although we didn’t work with them on that project, I knew they were very high caliber, and reached out to them again when we needed another developer. That initiated some deeper dialogue about their capabilities, approach, and pricing model. Then they submitted a proposal.

How much have you invested with them?

At this point, we’ve spent about $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in January 2020 and they’re still working through more features for us.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

As a team, we’ve never had to worry about them delivering. In comparison, our relationship with our previous development team was very stressful and contentious. We can trust ENO8, and when we talk about them, it’s in a positive light.

I only have positive things to say about them. If they took a customer satisfaction score, without a doubt, each person involved in our project would give them a perfect score.

How did ENO8 perform from a project management standpoint?

Rather professionally. Every day, we have a daily scrum call. Our lead project manager is professional, patient, and addresses problems head-on. If he doesn’t know something, he finds out and follows up. We also use Jira, Slack, and email.

When we face issues, rather than trying to meet a timeline, forcing something, and causing production issue, they take their time to understand the problem. Then they relay it to us and help us understand it. As a result, we trust that whatever delay may occur is in the best interests of the product.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their professionalism and their ability to execute on what they promised. Many other providers are afraid to admit when there’s a delay. Even in high-stress moments, they’re incredibly composed, patient, and professional. How well they manage situations is mind-blowing. They’re able to handle everything thoughtfully and with ease.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At the beginning of the project, it felt like the launch was slow. Of course, there’s a delicate balance between going fast and trying not to break anything. Once we got everything in gear, they were able to do everything at the pace we needed.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be an all-in participant in each meeting you have with them. Be proactive about the issues on the Jira board. Take advantage of every communication tool they offer to stay in the loop with them and they will deliver.

We wanted to upgrade one of our platforms, which is an e-commerce ordering site for a horticultural line of business. At the time, the platform was only for one customer, and we wanted to be able to reuse it. We contacted ENO8 to take the product from version 1 to version 2.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their team upgraded the proprietary platform that we initially used for one of our customers. They evaluated the existing platform and then used newer technologies to build out the infrastructure. Their team gathered requirements and then executed all of the development. They implemented the functionalities from the first version as well as the additional features into the second version.

I directly connected with the president, a project manager, a business analyst, and a developer. Jeff (Co-Founder) understood the project and remained involved in a detailed fashion.

How did you come to work with ENO8?

ENO8 responded to our RFP. We chose them because Jeff quickly grasped the platform's purpose. He understood us from business and technology perspectives, which gave us confidence in his ability to take us to the next level

We started the engagement in September 2018, and it ended in April 2020.

Our main goal was to have multiple customers use the platform, which ENO8 achieved. They not only recreated features from the first version but also added the ones that we wanted to include in the platform's second version.

How did ENO8 perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly communicated by email and phone. They communicated and managed expectations well. Their team called out roadblocks and issues early. They were great.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team was dependable. If they say they’ll get a task done, they’ll get it done. ENO8 has a sharp, knowledgeable team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

This wasn’t an area for improvement, but they’re a small organization. If their team needs to ramp up, it would likely take them a bit of time.

Listen to them. They’re development experts, so take their advice.

We had an opportunity to capitalize on our reporting capabilities & needed help developing a secure online reporting platform for both internal & external users.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals were to create a secured site utilizing azure, active directory and power bi. The site needed to be flexible for various user groups and with the ability to change out reports & folder structures as needed.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I selected Eno8 based on a previous proposal they had presented to us for a separate deal. After talking with a good friend at capital factory who also recommended them, I knew that they would be a good fit.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They designed, developed, configured, and tested the website. The project began with a discovery workshop with Bill Francis (Chief Architect) & Albert Kamau (Sr. Project Manager), which let us reach a mutual understanding of goals & what was needed from each party for the project to be successful.

Production began in the forms of 2-week sprints, and I was provided access into their project slack channel & jira scrum board. We met weekly to review work completed & upcoming tasks throughout the project duration.

What was the team composition?

The project team had around 8 people from Eno8. Certain individuals would come & go depending on the skills needed. However, there was a core team of 3 led by Albert Kamau (Sr. Project Manager) who was my direct and permanent point of contact.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Unfortunately not at this time, due to the pandemic we've held off launching the site to external users until the fall.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I've worked with multiple developer groups & can say that Eno8's project management and transparency of status & task is excellent. By leveraging weekly meetings, slack, jira boards, and GitHub, communication was never an issue.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

What was most impressive to me was how I was made to feel apart of their team. The inclusiveness into the project from using their management tools (slack/jira).

Are there any areas for improvement?

None, everything went as planned. Thru 2 SOWs they have delivered on time & on budget & as a project owner that's most important.

I’m the director of marketing at Anders Group. We do travel healthcare staffing nationwide.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ENO8?

We hired ENO8 to build an automated pay package builder, which ideally takes some information that we receive from our clients and uses that to build a pay package. The idea is to save our internal staff some time while getting that important information out to our potential candidates as quickly as possible.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We worked with ENO8 to give them specific thresholds and figures related to the formula that we needed to use for the pay package. They actually used that along with an API into our CRM, as well as an API with the GSA (General Services Administration) to pull specific rate information from the government. They used that to create the pay package builder, which will automatically pull job data from our CRM, create the pay package based on that, and then push the pay package back into our CRM so that it’s visible for our internal employees. Then, we have a separate integration that will push that out to job boards and other relevant sites.

What is the team composition?

I believe we worked with 4–5 people.

How did you come to work with ENO8?

They’re actually a local company in the Dallas area. They had emailed us last year, and we’d spoken to them about doing some other work. However, due to COVID-19 and the changes that that brought to the business world, we’ve put that larger project on hold. However, this pay package automation was extremely important to us, and so we worked with ENO8 in a way to help us fill that need. We tried working with several other companies that couldn’t put together what we needed, but ENO8 was able to step in and get it done.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent approximately $7,500. They actually came in under budget, which was nice. 

What is the status of this engagement?

This specific project was from May–June 2020. Our intention is to work with them in the future on other projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They worked very quickly. It helped that the owner of their company was familiar with our industry. Other vendors we’ve worked with haven’t really understood the ins and outs of our somewhat niche industry, which makes working together more difficult.

Everyone was really responsive, extremely helpful, and great about answering even simple questions. We’re not developers, so it was great to work with them. They used terminology that was easy for us to understand, and they laid out the steps of the project clearly. The team was flexible to changes that came up during their project; they rolled with them and were able to turn those requests around very quickly. 

They were also able to suggest ways to make what we were looking to do even simpler, which was really nice. They didn't just take the requirements and build them specifically; if there was a better way to do it, they made those suggestions. 

How did ENO8 perform from a project management standpoint?

It was great. They were extremely responsible and easy to get ahold of. We had multiple ways to communicate: phone, email, and a Slack channel that they set up, which made quick questions and comments really easy. Everyone on the team was extremely responsive and helpful.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There were lots of things. Having them local was great. Even though we didn’t actually get to work with them in-person, we previously met some of the team, and then we communicated with them on Zoom during the project. Also, having someone from their team who understood our industry was really helpful. Even the people who weren’t familiar with the industry really jumped in and were quick to take the information that we provided, make sense of it, and put it to good use when building the pay package calculator. Everyone was really nice and great to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. It was a small project, but I don’t think we ever had any issues. It went very smoothly, which we’re happy about that.

Any advice for potential customers?

Some of the changes that we had to make were due to not completely understanding the limitations within our own CRM, which wasn’t on them. Have a good understanding of such limitations or any ramifications of making changes within the CRM. That could’ve saved us some of the changes made once we were actually within the project.
