What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

For the Codeigniter upgrade we used a detailed pass/fail tracker with projected timelines for completion.  Working through the regression tests within the timeframe and completing them successfully was one KPI.
For the Cloud infra work, success was defined by creating a system that was simpler to maintain and didn't compromise the application's performance in terms of page load speed and uptime.

Yes they delivered on time, in so far as "on time" is possible in IT development.  They were well managed and structured and provided regular updates via project spreadsheets. They were very responsive - sometimes out of hours when there was an acute need for support.

Our software is being used by some of the worlds largest multinational companies, all of which have renewed for a second year with 5 and 6 figure annual subscription fees. That's the best measurable outcome.

Emvigo always clearly define the scope and meet the deadlines. Jira is used extensively to manage the project and deliverables. We have never had an issue with scope creep and have been very pleased with the Scrum based PM style.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We have a dedicated team to work with. They have become part of our business and we see them as working with us and not for us. Even though they are many thousands of miles away. None of the other supplier would have worked in this way.

We have both had various issues with each other! But they were all addressed professionally and promptly. These ranged from defined timelines not meeting our expectations and us not being able to dedicate enough time with their team for them to meet their timelines. This is common in any project delivery.

What challenge were you trying to address with Emvigo Technologies Ltd?

We wanted to build a platform from the ground up to facilitate a frontend UI integration with our end clients' platforms that would fit into their already existing user journeys. Additionally, we wanted an intuitive dashboard that would allow our clients to log in and easily digest quite complex data, which would also deliver the data to clients in real time. This would enable them to facilitate a customer journey as part of their existing or new credit scoring process for whatever financial products they offer.  

We needed a technology partner because we had very limited internal resources, so we decided to outsource our entire tech team.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Emvigo is developing our platform. First, we conducted a six-week discovery phase to define what we wanted to do with the platform. Teammates from Emvigo and our internal teammates participated in many workshops to ascertain what our immediate bill should look like and then define the consequent short, medium, and long-term roadmaps. Once this was all defined and built into the agreement, we built the project plan utilizing relevant tools and then defined our requirements and milestones. 

Subsequently, they started building the platform based on our briefs, starting with the infrastructure and architecture. The team has reviewed, adapted, and changed the platform based on additional learnings through development. We’ve conducted additional workshops with some early adopters, and Emvigo has worked based on that insight and built it into early versions of the platform.

The team has completed version one, which is an amalgamation of our internally-defined requirements and adopter feedback. As for technologies, AWS, MongoDB, and Confluence are the primary tools for the backend architecture. The team has also used Jetpack.io, Sentry, Amazon CloudWatch, and a broad range of infrastructure services. They’ve built the frontend using React and have also used Kotlin and Python — the latter for data science models.

We’ve worked with about 10–15 teammates from Emvigo; we’ve had people drop in and out of the project at different times.

Emvigo delivers to a very high standard; without them, we wouldn't have a business. Moreover, they've proved to be highly adaptable and helpful in providing recommendations. Their senior infrastructure engineer has been particularly valuable from a consultancy perspective, offering guidance and advice on best practices. 

How did Emvigo Technologies Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

We use the Agile methodology, so we don't work with traditional deadlines. Instead, we work based on iterative build and design. The team has kept all the timelines and estimations. If they don't deliver or feel like they've made a mistake, they endeavor to provide additional resources to bring the product back into the expected timeline. 

We use Microsoft Teams to communicate because it integrates quite well with tools like monday.com and Jira, providing a one-stop shop in communication channels that we can then segregate through QA, development, release, post-release, and documentation channels. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I'm impressed by Emvigo's work ethic and project delivery. If they know something is critical for our short-term success, they work as true partners instead of an offshore organization that demands more money to get something over the line. Emvigo goes the extra mile to get things done because they can see the medium-to-long-term benefit of the tasks.

Although they're not the cheapest outsourced service provider, we get what we pay for them — they're one of the best. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Clearly define your requirements and spend time scoping what you want to achieve. Equally, understand that iteration is a part of software development, and Emvigo is very good at waterfall delivery and amending within the constraints of agile delivery. Listen to their advice; they're very experienced and knowledgeable individuals.

I’m the managing director of a smart meter investment company. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Emvigo Technologies Ltd?

We hired Emvigo to build an asset management and tracking system. Initially, I had an existing system that I built by myself, but it met only the bare minimum of requirements. As a result, I engaged Emvigo. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with a blank sheet of paper and then designed a solution based on my explanation of the industry. I also gave Emvigo a description of how I built my own tracking system. From there, the next stage was to design the actual system and build it. 

At present, they’ve built the backend of the system. They’re now in the process of building the system’s frontend. For context, our business owns smart meter assets, which track serial numbers and other identifiers that record the meters’ locations. 

Further, our meter assets are used to measure gas and electricity. The product’s journey starts in our warehouse, and it’s then shipped to a storage facility. From there, an engineer installs it in a house. Sometimes, the product gets uninstalled for various reasons. When that happens, it has to undergo a reverse logistics process — it comes back to us for checking, testing, and redeployment. The system we’ve built with Emvigo tracks the assets throughout that entire journey. 

In parallel, the system also tracks other aspects associated with the meter asset, such as the energy supply; this is required for billing purposes. It also tracks the firmware version of the assets. The frontend that Emvigo is currently developing provides easy access to all of that information for anyone who wants to look them up and cross-check details. 

Moreover, the tracking system is mainly a web app, but the team has also built a mobile app specifically for repatriation and triage, which are a part of the asset’s journey. If assets come to a repatriation facility, the end user can scan the serial number of the assets using the mobile app and identify their owners. It’s only available on Android.

We’ve worked with a total of around 12 people from Emvigo, but the core team consists of seven people. These people include developers and project managers.

I got in touch with Emvigo via Upwork, and I partnered with them because they not only had development capabilities in India but also had a presence in the UK.

We started working together in January 2020, and the engagement is ongoing.

The quality of Emvigo’s work is second to none; it’s fantastic and I’m truly pleased with it. They’ve achieved everything we need. 

How did Emvigo Technologies Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

Emvigo’s project management is good. Part of our development process has been driven by our customer’s requirements, and in hindsight, our customer has been quite poor in setting their requirements. As a result, after we’ve built something that met their original requirements, they’ve requested further changes. 

We’ve managed to implement those changes, and the Emvigo team has been quite flexible in adapting their solutions to meet our client’s requested changes. To communicate, we use emails and WhatsApp. I’m not their primary contact in our company, however. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing about Emvigo is their ability to listen and understand our requirements. They also have the ability to learn about an industry they had no prior exposure to while building a great system.

No, there aren’t any.

Put yourself into the engagement. To illustrate, I’ve invested a lot of time upfront to educate them on our requirements. I personally think I’ve done a good job at that. Our engagement and the product we’ve developed reflect that.

We provided Emvigo with the design, and they went on to develop an Azure solution with an AWS managed blockchain. They used Microsoft for the frontend and built functionalities that could allow our clients to manage their statements of work and delivery of service over a standardized platform. Their team was in charge of testing the software, and they currently actively maintain it as well as iterate on it.

There were 12 people assigned to the project.

We had been making inquiries on a vendor platform when Emvigo approached us directly. They forwarded an offer that stated that they would operate at a fixed price. We felt that it aligned with our budget and our approach, so we took them on for the development project.

We started the engagement in July 2019. We have an ongoing partnership.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Emvigo has delivered on time and within budget. Everything has gone as planned, and the team has successfully managed and deferred certain items that have not been met. If I were to quantify it, I would say we are 95% satisfied with their work.

I’m the co-founder and CTO of a shipping company that runs a shipping and logistics website. The company is based in Switzerland and we import goods from Germany.

I needed a platform where customers could subscribe and order goods from Germany that they can’t typically obtain due to Switzerland's local regulations. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Emvigo Technologies has been a key partner in building our platform on WordPress from scratch. They’ve done the web design, content creation, backend development, AWS server set up, and Cloudflare security. In addition, we’re now working on several upgrades to the platform to make it easier to use.

What is the team composition?

I think there have been between 5–8 people involved in the project. The team scales up whenever we have pressure to reach a deadline. Ultimately, we have about five people, including someone in charge of project management, front-and backend development, and design. 

How did you come to work with Emvigo Technologies Ltd?

My partner had a contact in Dubai and this person referred Emvigo Technologies to us. I also searched on Google and reached out to my network. We ended up with a list of 5–6 companies and went through two selection and quotation phases. They won because they were extremely detailed, professional, and went beyond our expectations in terms of deliverables during the tender process.

What is the status of this engagement?

We set up the contract and in July 2020 and the platform was complete by March 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Emvigo Technologies has built up the business for us because without the platform we don’t have a business.

We ended the platform 3–4 months behind schedule, but it wasn’t entirely their fault. I think they underestimated the modules, but we also had a lot of change requests. However, it wasn’t a critical issue for us because we didn’t have thousands of customers yet. We managed to run the business and adjust to the platform on the go.

How did Emvigo Technologies Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Google Sheets and communicate through email for status updates and approval requests. For smaller requests and exchanges, we use Skype. We also have weekly meetings for discussing progress and any other details that we can’t cover in emails or messages. 

In the beginning, it wasn’t clear who was managing the project. I believe they didn’t have resources available at the time, but things got better once they assigned a project manager. We implemented three phases for the project management: development, testing, and production. Emvigo Technologies didn’t have that in place either. In the end, the project started to work well and the results became better — they’ve improved a lot.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Emvigo Technologies is a committed team that works quickly and delivers on par with expectations. They acknowledge the fact that the world isn’t perfect, so if there are any mistakes, they work hard, even overnight or on weekends, to get things done. Additionally, their CEO and CTO are always easy to reach.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The team could be a bit more experienced and come up with ideas that could contribute to the overall functionality and flow of the platform. The structure that we have today took a bit of time to achieve. 

Any advice for potential customers?

Onboarding a project manager from the very beginning and spending time with their team to understand the whole purpose of the project from A-to-Z will make sure that everything goes well.
