I’m the founder of a direct-to-consumer bathroom accessories company. We sell complete boxes of bathroom accessories geared towards men ages 18-35 living in apartments and college dorms.

What challenges were you trying to address with Shopify Pro New York?

I needed to develop several new pages for my website. I had worked with another developer that did the bulk of the website work. However, my contract with that vendor was over, so I hired Shopify Pro New York to build additional web pages.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built two website pages for me and an enhanced footer. They did both design and development. I provided them with some creative direction, but they did the bulk of the design. The website they worked on is Shopify.

I worked with two business development people, and three web developers and designers.

I found them on UpWork.

We spent between $500–$800.

I worked with them in August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website is not live yet, so I don’t have any analytics to share. However, I’ve gotten positive feedback on the new webpages. People have told me the layout is intuitive and the pages are easy to navigate. It looks really nice and provides all the information that a user would need. 

How did Shopify Pro New York perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management was very good. The process was really transparent as we all worked together on a shared Skype thread. Everything happened in real-time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very flexible. Unlike other agencies that will only do one or two revisions, they were willing to make additional updates without charging extra. They’re focused on customer satisfaction. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a bit more meticulous in regards to QA. However, I’m very happy with the engagement and would work with them again.

Be very specific about what you want. They will do exactly what you ask, so don’t leave any gray areas.

I originally built and launched our website myself, but it was a little messy because I don’t have a background in development. We hired them to do some tidying up and make changes that we didn’t have the skills to do in-house.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Because our site needed some cleaning up and consolidation, they came on board and examined the current state of the site. From there, they used their expertise to recommend changes and fixes that would make the site more navigable for consumers. We were happy with the work they did and only changed partners when we decided to focus more closely on cataloging. They have the ability to build out all sorts of web assets on Shopify.

I’ve worked with about 6–7 of their team members.

I was looking for a New York-based developer on Upwork, and someone recommended them to us as a full-service agency.

We’ve spent about $20,000.

We started working together in November 2019, and they completed the project in March 2020.

Our team became much more educated on what our website can and cannot do. We’ve taken what we’ve learned from them and organized ourselves more effectively around our technology.  

How did Shopify Pro New York perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was decent, but we ended up jumping around a lot for learning purposes. In the end, they had to do some learning in regards to working with us as well. However, they were very flexible, which is exactly what we needed. They were great at meeting deadlines.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team was endlessly flexible, which was brilliant. We set the bar incredibly high, and they were able to deliver.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’d recommend that they be freer with speaking their mind when we’re taking the wrong path. It may not hurt them to be a bit more assertive with their knowledge. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If we would’ve had clear goals from the beginning, that would’ve been a huge benefit. That would’ve made their lives easier as well.

I searched online for companies with Cratejoy web experience. Shopify Pro seemed knowledgeable and had excellent communication throughout the discovery phase, so I decided to hire them.

Once hired, Shopify Pro sent a questionnaire to determine exactly what I needed out of the new website. The questions and their follow up questions really helped me pinpoint requirements so we were all on the same page.

I worked directly with the designer and the rest of the team through their project management software and by phone as needed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

During Covid-19, my sales have been increasing drastically as more people are buying items for "home entertainment" options. The website is directing people to the products and helping them select their product variations and find us on social. People have commented that the website is easy to use.

Their team worked well with mine, despite time constraints on my end and travel during the early stages of the product that made it difficult for me to respond right away.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are very thorough and take the time to understand requirements to deliver a great web site.

I can't really think of anything. It was very smooth.

Ecom did an awesome job adhering to our brand and to my (very) rough drawings for inspiration. They were great to work with for any required revision.

We use BaseCamp for constant feedback/communication. They were significantly faster at responding than I was! And overall, their communication skills are excellent.

They get it done. Even with the small (and likely annoying) requests for revisions from us.

We were locked out of our business manager and needed to find a way to connect all of our product catalog back to the FB page in order to be able to do product tagging on Instagram as well. Ecom Development immediately was able to find all the problems and was able to fix everything super quickly.

I was able to connect my products to the FB and Instagram page and finally tag my products again driving more traffic to the website and more sales.

I was impressed by the project management style. Zain was very accommodating as I was traveling abroad and asked him to text me via Whatsapp. He explained to me everything that was needed to get the project done and always answered my questions super promptly.

I was very impressed with their Shopify knowledge and expertise. I was also impressed by their wonderful customer service always answering very promptly and on top of our project. It made me feel like this project was a priority for them and also they were very considerate about the timing I needed in order to get the project done in time to launch new products.
