I'm the lead marketing coordinator of a pasture seed company and processing plant that exports seeds grown by us and other producers.

For what projects/services did your company hire Linkchar Software & Consulting, and what were your goals?

We hired Linkchar to redesign our old company website, to develop an online seed marketplace and to help us upgrade our IT infrastructure and operations.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We needed a team that could visit our buildings in person to survey our current infrastructure and observe and improve our IT operations. Linkchar was available to work with us in person and after several meetings we realized they where really qualified for the work and they also had experience working in the agriculture sector.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

For the website development, they first offered a re-design of our old corporate identity manual. Once approved, they moved on with some wireframes to define the general structure of the site. After this, we discussed technologies and infrastructure, ended up going for Python (Django) for the web framework and AWS for the cloud infrastructure.

Once the website project was finished, we proceeded to the consulting stage of the work in which they assessed our current IT infrastructure (servers, network, applications and software) and proposed an upgrade plan. Once the budget was approved they proceeded to design an implementation plan of 1 month. The execution went smoothly without any problems.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had 3 of them visit our buildings regularly. But on the hole team was about 8 people from different backgrounds including backends, frontends, graphic designers, devops, etc.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Our site performance improved significantly in google search results. The site runs really fast and it reduced administration costs with all the integrations they made to our current stock management system. Online sales increased by 40% in just a few months.

We had weekly online meetings and some in person visits in between. They are very transparent in their communication. We used Trello for the project management.

Their motivation and enthusiasm were impressive. We believed working with IT people was difficult but they definitely proved us wrong.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not really, as any software project, we encountered some bugs during the implementation but they responded almost intantly.

We searched online and offline for backend development. Customer orientation service and business understanding was a deciding factor.

We had a kick-off meeting to discuss our goals and objectives. From there the team delivered mock-ups and wireframes for our site, which we ran by management to approve. We are still developing stages of the MVP.
