Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.
Before engaging Devstark, we worked with number of developers who could not capture our vision. We initially contracted with Devstark for a small, specific task. We were impressed with their knowledge and professionalism and commissioned a complete rewrite. From there, we transitioned to a SCRUM based approach and have been building product ever since.Â
It has been a happy project, which in my experience developing software, is the exception rather than rule. Everyone on the team works well together and it shows in the quality of work we have jointly produced.
But Devstark has been our core development partner for the entire Analyst's Copilot platform. The scope has been extensive:
Core Platform: A Next.js web application with a React-based dashboard, admin panel, and user-facing portal hosted on AWS. The system includes user authentication, Stripe payment integration, and role-based access.
Automated Daily Digest System: An intelligent pipeline that monitors company websites, blogs, press releases, and news sources. It scrapes, summarizes, and delivers personalized daily email digests to analysts with one-click dashboard access.
Conversational AI Reports: A chat-based interface where analysts can generate specialized reports, SWOT analyses, competitive comparisons, vendor evaluations, briefing emails, LinkedIn posts, and more. Users can ask follow-up questions and refine outputs interactively.
Custom Prompts Engine: Analysts can create, save, and manage their own proprietary report templates with variable insertion, giving them a significant competitive advantage over generic AI tools.
Company Management: A comprehensive system supporting company hierarchies (parent-child relationships like Google → Google Cloud), bulk CSV import, automated search keyword generation, topic classification, and tag-based organization.
SEC Filings Integration: Automated daily monitoring of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, S-1) for tracked public companies, integrated into the digest workflow.
Auto-Translation: Automatic detection and translation of non-English content during summarization, with original text preserved for reference.
Infrastructure & DevOps: Full CI/CD pipeline, Docker containerization, Hatchet workflow engine migration (v0→v1), AWS infrastructure management, security audits, and API key rotation procedures.
Company Collections: Pre-built sets of companies (e.g., "Payment companies") that analysts can add in one click, streamlining onboarding.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We went from a concept to a competitive, market-ready product in about a year. Our platform now supports comprehensive company monitoring, AI-powered analysis, and automated digest delivery. During demos, one prospect told me he thought a task would take him a day, and we did it in five minutes using our tool.
We have secured paying customers and are actively growing. The product has generated strong interest from major organizations.
Over 13 sprints, the team has delivered dozens of features, from the conversational AI interface to SEC filings monitoring to auto-translation, consistently meeting sprint commitments.
The platform now has clear advantages over generic AI tools like Perplexity or ChatGPT through its streamlined workflow, proprietary data integration, custom prompts system, and specialized analyst reports.
The system runs reliably on AWS with proper CI/CD, automated deployments, and documented disaster recovery procedures.
Features like company hierarchies, bulk import, role-based access, and Stripe integration make the platform ready for enterprise sales conversations.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
Devstark follows a disciplined two-week sprint cadence with formal planning and review meetings. Refat, the CEO and lead developer, participates in every sprint review and planning session, which shows the level of commitment he brings to our project.
We use Shortcut (task tracker) for backlog management, and sprint reviews are thorough. Each feature is demonstrated live, with time for feedback and discussion. When we provide feedback, they implement it in the next sprint or adjust priorities accordingly. Delivery has been consistently on time.
Even during challenging periods, like the Hatchet workflow engine migration or unexpected server scaling issues, Refat communicated proactively and adjusted plans to keep the project on track. What stands out is Refat's responsiveness and strategic thinking.
He actively contributes ideas for the product and we take his suggestions seriously. For example, he proposed the sponsored company visibility concept for our business model, suggested the migration from static reports to conversational AI reports, and recommended specific technical approaches that improved the product.
What was your primary form of communication with Devstark?
- Virtual Meeting
- Email or Messaging App
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
A few things stand out:
Deep AI expertise combined with practical product thinking. Refat and his team don't just implement features; they understand where AI technology is going and how to differentiate our product. When the "why not just use Perplexity?" challenge came up, Devstark had already designed our architecture to compete on workflow, proprietary data, and specialized prompts.
The partnership mentality. This has never felt like an outsourcing relationship. Refat engages with our business strategy, understands our market (industry analysts), and contributes ideas that go beyond development. He attends sprint reviews with our full team, including our CTO and advisors, and the collaboration feels seamless.
Cost-effectiveness. They've built what I believe is a competitive platform on a startup budget. They run open-source tools where possible (like Hatchet on our own AWS rather than a paid managed service), make smart infrastructure decisions.
Are there any areas for improvement or something Devstark could have done differently?
Not really. It has been a happy project. Everyone understands what they are doing. They know their voice is heard and their contributions valued. You can see it in the quality of the work and in the fact the product improves sprint by sprint. In the end, we have created something we can all be proud of. Â
