We were looking for a technology partner to build a mobile application for our soccer community and integrate it with our Python back-end. My design team worked alongside with DevelopsToday to deliver mobile applications. DevelopsToday did outstanding work developing our mobile application for both iOS and Android platforms building it with React Native. 

One of the most impressive aspects of our collaboration was their unwavering commitment to quality assurance. Their manual and automated testing processes ensured a seamless and bug-free user experience (>99% crashless sessions).

 Automation QA engineer implemented end-to-end testing of the application with Detox and configured Bitrist for continuous integration. Back-End engineers showcased their prowess in scaling our Python APIs on Google Cloud with Kubernetes, effectively supporting the app's back-end infrastructure.

We released the MVP version of the application for beta users and the release went smoothly. After the release, we iterated and each release was on time. Our users leave good reviews for the application and don’t struggle with issues (according to our analytics, over 99% crashless sessions). 

As the product grows, the infrastructure deployed on Google Cloud scales successfully and can manage more users without burning our budgets on servers. DevOps engineer makes sure that back-end is healthy and resolves issues quickly when they appear.

We needed to build an iOS mobile application for video streaming and our in-house team of developers were already resourced on other projects. Therefore we reached out to the DevelopsToday team to help us build this application.

This included documentation about API endpoints as well as Jira tickets. After a few iterations we had some PRs to review and eventually the app got into the Apple Developer Portal and TestFlight where we made several iterations before releasing our app in the Apple App store.

In terms of technologies, I believe React Native and TypeScript were used.

I’m the chief product officer of a startup that provides jobs for construction workers with commercial construction projects. A lot of licenses and requirements are needed in terms of finding skilled workers. Our app addresses that problem by matching qualified workers with companies that need them.

What challenge were you trying to address with DevelopsToday?

DevelopsToday developed our app. Once we conceived everything we wanted to do and build, it was only a matter of what code to use for the platform and who we would work with.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Dmitriy (Founder) worked with us from the beginning as they built the app. Once we launched the platform, we had some internal staff changes. At that point, everybody wanted to put their touch on everything, resulting in a lot of backtracking and major bugs. Dmitriy worked with us through that entire process. 

In terms of technology stacks, we’ve used Node.js and MongoDB. We also use basic Elasticsearch to help match employees with the requirements of employers. For app features, we’ve created a photo-verification system for certain licenses that the workers need.

We mainly work with Dmitriy, though other people also work on the project. He was our main point of contact.

I found DevelopsToday through a recruitment company based in Ukraine. Dmitriy also worked with that company for a while, and that was where I found him.

We started working with DevelopsToday in December 2017, and the engagement ended in November 2021. It started as full-time and later took on more of a maintenance role.

Along the way, Dmitriy was at times like a CTO for us helping in technical decisions that no one on our inhouse team had experience with. We worked together to have a successful launch and created some great momentum with our initial release.

DevelopsToday has done great project management. I can’t speak about their internal process, but we run the team together with Dmitriy. We’ve used Asana and Trello as a means of communication. We also use Telegram to talk.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They know that decision-making isn’t always their job, but the fact that Dmitriy continues to provide suggestions and feedback is impressive.

For comparison, other developers only do what they’re asked to do. And for a non-technical team, that’s not what you need. 

By contrast, DevelopsToday provides suggestions and talks with us through problems, doing more than what they’re being asked to do. On top of that, the team maintains a good attitude when they’re tasked to do something they probably wouldn’t do if it were their own project. They know that it isn’t always part of their job to decide everything. That’s their best quality when compared with other teams that we've worked with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Everything worked out well. It's possible we could have had more communication in terms of day-to-day work and with some of the other team members. But that was partially our in-house team's responsibility also.

If you need a more personal approach to your project, ask Dmitriy for his advice. Hear his feedback. You might get caught up with the most popular platforms around, but those platforms aren’t always the best. Our biggest challenge was finding a team that could meet our requirements and fix the issues that our other development team did. We essentially started from scratch as the new site looked nothing like the old one.

We were looking to create something that hadn't existed before and would have to be completely customized meaning no CMS to build on like WordPress. We looked domestically at a few developers, but the cost build an MVP and get us off the ground was far too much.

The search continued for some time until we were able to find a company we were confident could take on the project within our budget, but unfortunately, this team also fell short of our expectations.

From day one they began cyphering through the old framework to organize to make things run better but also so that that next developer could come and pick up where they left off.
