I’m the director of sales and marketing at a wholesale manufacturer of luxury vinyl flooring products.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Deluminal?

We needed a website that was oriented towards product identification and value propositions. It should also introduce our company products to our dealer network, or those that bought our products to resell them. 

However, we didn’t have the capacity to develop our own website as we didn’t have coders or designers. As a result, we hired Deluminal to develop our site and establish a look and feel that was user-friendly, convenient, and easy to navigate. Anybody browsing the site should be able to access product information easily.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially provided Deluminal with a creative brief. Then, our team conducted a product knowledge session so that they’d understand what we did as a company. Their team also researched our competitors to determine what they were doing well. We wanted to see if we could implement those things into our website, too. They didn’t do any SEO research since our in-house team handled that, but they followed certain protocols in terms of keywords. 

The website itself was a standard HTML-coded WordPress site with a CRM backend. Deluminal designed an internal search engine for it so that end users could navigate to the product they wanted. People could search specific parameters such as colors, composite materials, dimensions, and lamination process. We also had a number of flooring lines, but we didn’t want users to look at all of them if they were looking for one specific tile. Our objective was to streamline navigation because our previous website was too large and difficult to navigate. 

Apart from coding and development, Deluminal also provided wireframes. They generated a series of storyboards, navigation mapping, and everything else we needed to ensure the site was in the right direction. We went through a couple of wireframe generations and art renderings until we came up with a design that we liked.

At present, we’re in the coding process and looking to develop a couple of landing pages and microsites. We’re currently going back and forth around numbers and budgets while waiting for our internal marketing team to confirm what exactly is needed. Then, we’ll be carrying on with Deluminal. 

What is the team composition?

We interact directly with Mirko (Founder), who's the key designer. He has a team of coders and programmers working in the background, but we don't interact with them. This setup is by and large our choice. We don't want to deal with a bunch of people; we only need one person to get our message and implement it. 

For context, we dealt with 3–4 people in creating our previous website, and our communication was mislaid. One person did one thing, while another person didn’t quite understand what to do and did something else. Learning from that, we decided to have only one front person who would handle all the information from our end and disseminate it to Deluminal’s group. 

How did you come to work with Deluminal?

We reached out to Mirko 2–3 years ago, and we’d worked with Deluminal through another group that provided advertising services. They were a web development subcontractor for that company.

When the firm moved on or went out of business, we reached out directly to Mirko and asked if they were interested in doing work for a Canadian company even though they were in Croatia. In other words, we had a history with them and sought them out to replace the other group that had left. 

How much have you invested with them?

Over the last two years, we’ve spent around $15,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We became directly involved with them in May 2018. Our relationship is ongoing, but we finished the web development project in May 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

In terms of web development and design service providers, Deluminal is the best one we’ve worked with so far. I’ve been with our company for six years now, and we’ve worked with many other contractors. By far and away, Deluminal is the easiest to work with and the most responsive to our needs. 

Moreover, since launching the site, we’ve had an enormous amount of positive feedback from both our dealer network and end users. On a regular basis, we receive as many as 5–7 emails via the website’s Contact Us page from people who want to know more about our products and where to buy them. Overall, their immediate impact on our business has been excellent in a short period of time. We’ve also tracked the traffic through the website, and it’s been very popular. 

How did Deluminal perform from a project management standpoint?

Deluminal’s project management is great. They’re highly proactive, and they don’t wait for us to tell them to try something; they always ask us first if we want to try something new. The team is also easy to work with and very much in control at all times. 

To communicate with them, we use conference calls. Occasionally, we use telephone calls, but nearly all of our interactions are done through our MS Teams account so that we can do screen sharing. That way, they can easily show what they’re doing and where they’re navigating.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The best part of working with Deluminal is their responsiveness. We don’t have an internal IT department. As a result, when things don’t go the way they should because we don’t know how to handle them, we ask the Deluminal team for help. Within a matter of 12 hours, the problem will be fixed with a written explanation of how to make it work properly next time. Overall, they’re informative and instructive, especially when it comes to using WordPress CRM.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. I can’t find anything disagreeable about them or any reason to not use them again in the future. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure that you’re front and center, and schedule time in advance so that you can clearly indicate what you want. Once you do that, you won’t need a lot of regular interactions. They’re highly efficient in understanding what customers want and in generating it independently. In other words, make sure your communication is clear and thorough from the very beginning. Then, you’ll have no problems moving forward.

I'm a cofounder and COO of a social investing company. Our company allows users to connect their brokerage accounts to our app, so that they can share their portfolio and trades with their family and friends in real-time.

We were introduced to Deluminal via a mutual friend who highly recommended his services.

We have launched our new website and we think it is great. The first impression from our potential users is now very positive.

Deluminal was extremely responsive and timely. They stuck to timelines, did not nickle and dime us on costs, and were willing to work with us to get the website perfected.

We’re a managed IT service provider in midtown Manhattan. We provide IT, telecom, and audiovisual solutions for small businesses and large residences all over the Tri-State area. 

I’m the owner, CEO, and president of the company. I oversee day-to-day, higher-level transactions between divisions, making sure that everything runs smoothly. I also take care of the fulfillment cycle to ensure all orders and requests get fulfilled in a timely fashion.

What challenge were you trying to address with Deluminal?

We have a unique workflow when it comes to ticket management and test management. Our challenge has been to navigate where we fit into the solutions that are presented to us daily or sometimes hourly by companies in the industry.

We’ve been on six different platforms, and none of them lasted more than a year and a half. We had one system that lasted two and a half years, but it wasn’t really the right solution. 

We were looking to simplify our communication between staff members and significantly tear down any unneeded steps in our workflow to make instruction simpler for our lower- and higher-tier tasks.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with the concept for a very basic system model. I initially submitted drawings for the interface and provided greater depth into what solution I wanted. Mirko (Founder & Head of Development) managed the project with a very critical eye for the system that I wanted.

After a prototype was created, we met with our internal service managers to review the system module by module. We retained what we wanted and removed what we didn’t like. That process took a few months.

At present, we're using the platform Deluminal created. We’ve been using it for close to almost two and a half years, longer than any other systems we've used. We’ll be going through a rewrite soon to clean up some loose ends that we’ve developed over the years.

What is the team composition?

I work primarily with Mirko on a daily basis. 

How did you come to work with Deluminal?

I knew somebody who had worked with them in the past, and he referred me to Mirko. I also talked to a few other people in the market, but I felt most comfortable with Deluminal. He understood the challenge and provided feedback and asking critical questions to arrive at a finished product.

They questioned and challenged each feature, which was incredibly helpful. It was as if I had an in-house development group working with me.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent around $17,500. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2018, and the partnership’s ongoing. We had a working prototype by the end of August 2018, and we were running on the actual system by December 2018. We're still working with them on a rewrite of the workflows and system modules.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our success metric is in how productive we are so it's difficult to measure. We’ve been on the system with no real issues. We’ve barely run into a bug that we couldn’t work around until we got a solution. So by that measure, it has been tremendously successful.

Mirko is very much involved with the details of what I wanted, and he challenges me on almost everything. He doesn’t want me to waste time and money by developing features that aren’t necessary. A lot of credit should be given toward that.

How did Deluminal perform from a project management standpoint?

The project management is efficient, development speed is great, and the turnaround time is quick. The only time we ever have a long conversation is when I want to develop a new feature.

We have a “bug document” with headings for each module. We list each bug under the appropriate module and send them to Mirko. Deluminal will take care of those, and they’re usually done within a few days. Sometimes, they finish within the day, and the modules are ready to be uploaded and synced.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing about Deluminal is that they can challenge the customer with a critical eye. Sometimes a vendor wouldn’t be as comfortable challenging a customer request. However, from the beginning, they’ve been able to take on their role as a “development division” inside of my company and give me the necessary critical feedback.

We could have started with a lot of mistakes. When developing an app, it’s sometimes impossible to go back and change mistakes that are made in the system's core.

Since this project was for a new platform, different aspects needed to be vetted before implementation. It’s helpful to have a person who’s there to set up the project and make sure that it gets to fruition.

Deluminal has changed the entire project and helped us have a successful rollout.

Are there any areas they could improve?

My service managers and I don’t have any issues. So far, we've been quite happy with our relationship with Deluminal. I’m very satisfied with their services. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very open to listening to Deluminal’s advice even if your concept has been vetted by people with the inside view in your company. Be prepared with actual layouts and workflows before you start the project.

This way, when you have to go back and forth, you can provide context to your idea and make sure that they are released correctly. Provide a very clear picture of the problem you’re trying to solve.

Mirko (Founder) used to work for me full-time for eight years. He started Deluminal a couple of years ago, and I’ve hired them to work on different projects for me.

I find the work of their backend developers to be very clean and professional. Our customers have given us compliments on the designs they created, and our internal team are always impressed with the professional code they provide.

We use Skype for our scheduled meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re thoroughly impressed by the quality of their work. I think they’re smart people.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think they need to improve on anything because everything they do, they do well. I feel like I’m always hitting them on their strengths.

Be patient with communication. They’re very smart and they get the work as long as you communicate it properly.

When we started off, we discussed our goals for the website and what kind of information we wanted to get out. We presented Deulminal with some examples of other websites to get an idea of what we were looking for in terms of design. 

The team designed the entire front- and backend of our website, though all the content came from us. They used WordPress.

I only dealt with Marko (Web Developer), but I know there were others involved.

The mayor of our municipality had used Deluminal’s service before, which is how we were put into contact with them.

The total for the entire project was $6,550.

We worked together from February–April 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

For us, the project was a great success. The information is more concise and easier to find, as are the forms our residents often need to find to fill out. The feedback we’ve received from the general public is fantastic.

Also, we went into the project without much knowledge of web design or development, and Deluminal’s guidance was a huge help.

Marko performed very well. He kept us informed and sent out regular updates. He provided quick responses if we ever had questions about anything.

We were most impressed with their responsiveness and professionalism. The product they delivered was really top-notch.
