Datawalls managed an AWS EC2 server running CentOS, including managing the SSL certificates through Cloudflare and other settings through AWS. In addition to this, they monitored and fixed issues with the server when they occured.

Datawalls was also responsible for app development on iOS, Android and web using Flutter. They redid the UI/UX of the original app to improve the aesthetics, then developed additional features as requested to provide users with a better experience. To facilitate this, they also developed API endpoints when necessary to support the app features. Aside from the mobile app, they also developed a web portal for internal use to help improve our workflow.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Datawalls helped to resolve multiple issues with the server when they popped up. They created a new UI/UX for our mobile app which was much improved, and developed multiple new features for the app. They created a web portal to assist with internal workflow. They helped set up a test environment for development, and assisted with development of new server features.

Datawalls was very quick to respond to spontaneous requests/issues as needed. They also developed new items in a timely manner, such that we had no issues with any delays.

The most impressive aspect is the readiness of Datawalls to respond to issues. At any time of the day, if there was an issue with the server, they were available to investigate immediately, and keep up a strong commitment to resolving the issue quickly.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Datawalls could have done differently?

While Datawalls was great at assisting us, in some situations, it may have also helped Datawalls to request assistance more frequently from our internal team.

I am the managing partner of a business and technology law firm.

For what projects/services did your company hire Datawalls?

Our law firm requires that all of our software is accessible through the cloud. Even prior to the pandemic, we enabled all of our lawyers and staff to access almost all software online. Unfortunately, official software for filing public documents (for public companies) is a very old legacy software that was never officially updated. We asked Datawalls to come up with a solution to enable us to access the software (SEDAR) through a cloud solution.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found Datawalls through the work that we do. We work with many IT vendors as a technology law firm, but heard great reviews about Datawalls. Tariq, the owner of Datawalls is professional and attentive.

We had to provide Datawalls with all documentation relating to SEDAR as an install on the cloud was not directly possible. Tariq and his team studied the documentation and custom coded the cloud implementation.

Tariq, the CEO was the main point of contact for us, as I have a direct relationship with him.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Datawalls successfully implemented the cloud implementation and I would reckon that we are one of the only law firms to be able to access SEDAR through the cloud.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Everything was seamless and timely.

I appreciated the personal touch. Their most important quality was their display of confidence and communication.

Nope. I was very happy.

I’m the director of a charity called the Foundation for Human Excellence and Achievement (FHEA). We work on building skillsets and making them available to the vulnerable and disadvantaged populations within the Canadian Society. I’m also a physician by trade.

What challenge were you trying to address with Datawalls?

I needed to establish trust and competency, especially since I was in the charity space. Previously, I worked with other people for my website, and it was a gong show. Those people had to take care of my website, but they lost it in an attack as they outsourced its hosting. As a result, I hired Datawalls to manage my personal website and the charity’s website. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The number one deliverable for our project was to have the ability to convey our message to the communities with which we worked. Our team needed to be trusted by different groups. As a result, Datawalls designed the imagery that represented our name; they designed our logo, which represented what we did in a universal way. They did the same to our websites and gave me ideas on how to scale things in the future.

At present, they manage everything for us and work on our new projects and posters. They also provide maintenance for my site. 

What is the team composition?

Various teams work on the project. For one, the design team deals with our logo designs through multiple iterations. I also work with their managing director.

How did you come to work with Datawalls?

I found them through the accountant for my business and the charity. He had used Datawalls for his own site, so he referred them to me, saying that the team did good work. I took that word-of-mouth advice and hired them. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested between $10,000–$20,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2018, and the partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our donors have commented on the charity’s website, which we’ve used as the main source of our revenue. This has been paramount to me; it’s my most important metric. The website generates the wow factor whenever I send it to people, which is worth thousands of dollars in our industry. 

Overall, Datawalls has taken care of my business. They can do what I want, which is good, and they tell me relevant things from their experience that we can use for our mission and vision. On top of that, there’s never any upcharge in their costs. In other words, they’re competent, and they charge a reasonable rate — the best of both worlds. 

How did Datawalls perform from a project management standpoint?

Datawalls has a high level of communication. I’m a difficult person to deal with, and many things come up in my profession as a physician. However, they keep a level of communication where if I forget something, they remind me about it respectfully and politely. Overall, their project management is good.

Their managing director also pays close attention to me, making sure that what they deliver is what I want. He also ensures that they tell me things they see that I don’t see, and I deeply appreciate that. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The Datawalls team isn’t only professional and competent; they’re also humble. Even though they do good work, they’re not arrogant. Other professionals tend to be arrogant since they know they’re good, which is off-putting. When I want something good, however, I just deal with them and move on. 

By contrast, Datawalls has humility; I never feel shy to tell them when I don’t like the design. If it’s not what I’m looking for, they’ll make it right. As a result, their humility is a key factor in our engagement. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I hope they can maintain their building capacity. I don’t want to wake up one year and see people that are different from what they currently have. Like a good restaurant, they shouldn’t change the menu.

Save yourself some time and come to Datawalls with everything, including the steps of the project and your vision. On top of that, be willing to ask for feedback. Seek their advice, and then seek their service once you’ve conveyed your message.

We pay about  $400 a month and whatever is extra. Including the monthly fees, we’ve probably spent a couple of thousand dollars.

We started working with them about three years ago, and our relationship is ongoing.

Since they’ve been working with us, our sales have gone up. We’ve done better since COVID-19, but whatever they’ve done, it has made our sales better.

How did Datawalls perform from a project management standpoint?

I only deal with Tariq, but he’s incredible. I can go back and forth a million times with him. I’m a perfectionist, and he always has an unbelievable amount of patience. Everything is great.

Overall, they’re amazing. Everything we need is done even before we need it. If we ask for something, they get it done immediately. We never have to wait.

Sometimes their designer doesn’t understand us, but it’s not a big deal. I love them, and I would never go somewhere else.

We weren’t satisfied with the experience and we got to the point where our site wasn’t working and the previous company wouldn’t fix it, so it was a very bad experience. I was looking for a new company to build a website for us and manage it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They had a skeleton to work with but they had to build the website from scratch. They’ve done two websites for us. The first website was done and just recently, we had them rebuild the website on a new platform. They put new design and implementation because we have a large database on our website and they needed something more advanced. They built a more advanced web platform for us.

They provided us with their development and design expertise on multiple collaborations for our company. They did the project from A-Z and it included web applications, database management, security, and support services. The content was from our side, but on this last website project, they provided me with a writer who helped me work on the content — we had an editor provided by them as well.

We don’t use our website for a selling purpose, but we use it as a brochure — it’s a representation of our company. We’ve recently started doing SEO with Datawalls.

I’m in sales and I know what I expect from my suppliers because I know what customers expect from me — I expected exceptional customer support from Datawalls and I received that. Anytime I need something, I know I can reach out and they’ll get it fixed and if it’s a new service I need, I can rely on them. The website is user-friendly and easy to do small updates on. If I don’t have time, they’re always willing and helpful to do it right away. I don’t have them physically in my office but it feels like I do.

The website looks great. Customers say it looks professional and modern — they met every aspect we wanted.

How did Datawalls perform from a project management standpoint?

The project manager was there for me every step of the way. We usually communicated over email, and my emails were always answered in a timely manner, even if it can sometimes be instantaneous. I didn’t have to use a lot of phones with them, because sometimes it’s easier when you can put it in writing so they can copy, paste, and discuss — we use WhatsApp as well.

Moreover, the customer support was really great as we didn’t have any complications. Everything was always on budget and on time, and we always know how much it’s going to cost upfront. There are no hidden fees or surprises — they’re very transparent. There are sometimes perks we receive from them that are free of charge, since we’ve had a long relationship so we help each other as much as we can.
