The consultants from DataLabs were working directly under my leadership as senior consultants and also indepedently for other teams. Other part of their work was to implement QOPS (their version control tool for Qlik) for our clients, including multiple teams, tenants and projects.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The implementation of QOPS is a total success and we started to recommend it to other clients / partners - support and implementation from DataLabs on this was great. Their consulting skills are top notch, together we managed to achieve things in several projects,which people from business thought are impossible to achieve. Their technical knowledge and business understanding help a lot.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Most of the items were delivered on time. If something wasn't going as expected, they would explain what are the obstacles and how long it will take to fix them. Most of the initial deadlines are always met. They are also not scared from taking 'discovery' projects and I could count on them in any hard assignement.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the senior manager in business intelligence (BI) and FP&A for the global units at Ansell, a health and safety solution provider. We produce personal product user (PPU) products like gloves and clothing. When we have a pandemic situation as we have now, we have solutions for it. Our customers are hospitals, governments, automotive, and pharmaceutical.

What challenge were you trying to address with DataLabs?

We have an issue in our company that we have so many ERPs. We needed a tool to get all the data into one place.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our analytics system. We used QlikView to check APIs to have all the data from the ERPs and to do all the different transformations. After all this transformation, it goes right into a dashboard where we have access to all the numbers globally. For this app, we have almost 700 users in our organization that use it every single day. They continue to manage our system. We have more products we plan to do with them.

What is the team composition?

We are currently working with two full-time people. Sometimes there are more. They’re very flexible to scale up when needed, for instacnce if we need a specialist in website design.

How did you come to work with DataLabs?

A colleague who had my position before I came on board found them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent just under $400,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2017 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They know the technology and they’re always trying to find additional technology to help us. It’s a very strong platform where we can get all of the data very easily. I had several projects with other companies as a side project. During this project, I had to show them our plan to explain how we get the data. They were extremely impressed by the tool DataLabs developed. It doesn’t look like QlikView, it looks like a website.

How did DataLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Comindwork to keep all the requests. We can set up when tasks should be completed and we put all the details on what exactly we need. I have a call every day with them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re always open to new things.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could hire more people for specific projects.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’re very cheap compared to the value they can provide to their customers. It’s extremely good. They’re also very good at transforming the data and the management of failures that can happen during all the different APIs.

I'm a senior program manager of analytics. My team is responsible for handling the analytics for the solutions we offer.

What challenge were you trying to address with DataLabs?

When I started, we had no internal development team. Time was of the essence, so we decided to outsource. We wanted to integrate functionality to provide analytics across our product portfolio.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided development and testing services. We had multiple areas to develop, including various analytics dashboards. Our products offer Monitoring and Diagnostic Capabilities to Customers who use Unified Communications Systems such as Cisco, Avaya, Skype for Business, IP Office and so on. Depending on the customer, our dashboards and Analytics provide insights into what is happening in their vertical, including trends in call quality and how calls are affected. These dashboards consolidate information and put it through Qlik, a BI & Analytics solution, which presents data in a more understandable manner.

We follow two tracks. One is a rollout of our Standard solutions across our Customer Portfolio, and another that addresses the custom needs of our clients, based on the value proposition of each customer. DataLabs helps us achieve these goals for development and deliverables.

Recently, we started rearchitecting our product stack with completely new technologies aimed toward cloud-based solutions for our customers. We recoded some of our platform, and they help us with research and development, DevOps, and database development. They helped with PostgreSQL development and integration of CI/CD pipeline implementation. We've recently started a migration from Qlik to Logi Analytics as part of this product rearchitecture.

What is the team composition?

The number varied depending on our need. At the peak, we worked with a team of twelve developers, but we scale up and down as the projects' needs change.

How did you come to work with DataLabs?

We found them on Upwork and put them through a quick but rigorous interview process and built a team from there. When we first hired them, they were a very small company. As the relationship expanded over the years, it turned out into a symbiotic relationship that helped us grow as well as DataLabs.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent close to $800,000 so far over the course of the engagement.

What is the status of this engagement?

The collaboration began in September 2015, and we still work with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of the solutions they provide is really good. We still don't have an internal development team, but they've helped us expand and maintain our customer base. They offer valuable solutions, and they're a core part of our team. We have an organic understanding, and they provide a lot of flexibility.

How did DataLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

Most of our team is based in the U.S., but DataLabs accommodated us by working during our time zone for better overlap. They stick to our timelines, but are always honest if notice any unexpected roadblocks and possible slippage in timelines. They are transparent, and they reach out to us for guidance whenever the need arises.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their honesty and integrity stand out. They don't try to play politics, and the cultural aspects are really good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

From a technical standpoint, they're really good, but they can still work on their processes. If we get stuck in those processes, the development slows down. They can adapt as requirements change, but we would like to see more concrete pathways when anything goes wrong.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Hire them. They're good at what they do, especially with Qlik. They become subject matter experts in a very short time, and they will offer high-quality deliverables.
