I needed someone to help me with my computer-related problems, like backing up my files, cybersecurity, and cloud management.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I initially hired Cyber Unit to fix my computer during a seminar. Omer (CEO) sent his team and they solved my problem while I was still on the event. Since then, I signed up for their monthly maintenance. 

I also encountered issues with my email, and even though it was 8 p.m., Omer got on the phone with me and moved my email to a different server. From then on, they protect my email and make sure my web browser stops me from clicking malicious links and websites. My computer can’t be compromised since I have my client's data. 

Additionally, Cyber Unit set me up in the cloud, which allows me to interact with my clients remotely. They also provide dark web monitoring, which protects me from all threats. 

Every month, I receive a notification to see what their team is doing.

I’ve been working with Omer even before he started Cyber Unit, and he’s my point of contact. I also work with his whole team, because whoever is available takes care of the support call.

I met Omar at a networking group.

We started working together in the first quarter of 2013, and the partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I've gotten tenfold back of whatever I've invested in Cyber Unit. I can rely on them during emergencies at any time of the day, which is important for me because I can’t do business without my computer. 

I also like Omer’s attitude. One time, I had to set up a new internet system, and Omer visited my home. When he came in, he took off his shoes to show respect. I felt his genuine care for me as a client. He was so kind and he even said hello to my parents. He and his teammates are very personable.

Incidentally, to be able to deal with my clients remotely revolutionized my practice. When the COVID-19 pandemic happened, my practice was fine because I was already virtual since 2018 — and that was Omer’s idea.

As a CPA, I have so many regulatory requirements, but because of Cyber Unit, I can sleep peacefully at night knowing my digital presence is secure. This allowed me to expand. If it wasn't for Omer and his team, I’d have so many problems. 

How did Cyber Unit perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very responsive — as soon as I send a request, someone will respond with a timeline of when they can resolve my problem. If their group is able to, sometimes it even gets resolved immediately. 

They have other clients, and I understand I'm not going to get instantaneous service. However, they're really good at giving timelines and they also ask for my availability. For example, yesterday, my computer needed to be defragged. I told them my laptop's going to be free between 1 p.m.–2 p.m.  They confirmed the schedule, and they remoted during my free time and fixed the problem.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Cyber Unit’s whole team is genuine. I've gotten to know quite a few of their team members, and they're just great to talk to. I think that's really important, because it builds trust.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have no complaints, and if there was something that I wasn't happy with, I would just tell them because I have that deep relationship with them. I've always been happy with our partnership.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

With my practice, the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC) has a requirement that everything has to be in Canada. For example, I can’t have my servers outside of our country. Omer is really great at sourcing things in Canada, which allows me to meet my regulatory requirements. My advice is to listen to what Omer says, he will understand your problem.

Cyber Unit tracks and monitors our computer and mobile environments and blocks potential threats. They scan emails and prevent phishing.

I also refer Cyber Unit to my clients. The team has taken care of monitoring the websites I've designed to check everything is in order. If needed, they create security plans that suit the customer’s needs  — implementing a VPN, for example.

My main point of contact is Omer (Co-Founder & CEO). When I have specific problems, I talk with other team members.

I have a digital marketing agency that I transferred from Brazil to Vancouver. When I started working in Canada, I did networking groups to meet different people. I met Omer in one of these meetings and that’s when we started our business journey.

I spend around $500 yearly on two plans. One is for my personal computers and phones, and the other is for our business’ whole team.

We started our engagement in January 2018, and it’s ongoing.

The way we measure the impact is by not having to deal with security problems. It is a huge problem when a company gets hacked, so having a security company working for your business is a smart move. 

How did Cyber Unit perform from a project management standpoint?

We use a ticket system to report when we have a problem, but we can also call them directly if needed; they’re always willing to help.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When our business builds a website for a client, we want to make sure the security is in place, otherwise, we could deliver a faulty product and the client could blame us for it. Using Cyber Unit gives me a lot of peace of mind. They take care of everything and also add value to our company. 

I had used big antivirus software before that only delivers reports and has automated processes running through the computers. However, with Cyber Unit, clients can actually talk to a person who will notify them quickly of potential security breaches and give them solutions. The team has a sensitive and personal approach to their work. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have anything for them to improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Security companies can monitor all that happens on computers, so it’s sometimes a sensitive topic for customers. However, If you do some research on Google, you’ll find out how vulnerable online security is nowadays. That’s enough reason to go with Cyber Unit and trust them.

We were hacked one time before we knew about cybersecurity and almost lost $100,000. We were lucky our bank caught it.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cyber Unit has set up all of our email and mobile security. They also check the deep web just in case someone is trying to hack us again. They give me a monthly report, catch a lot of emails, and warn me about which ones are safe and which aren’t. They let me know when I have to update my iPhone, iPad, and more. We have salespeople and all of their emails are also secured.

They just really keep an eye on my security. I let them diagnose everything since I’m not tech-savvy. We just let the professionals do what they know. We basically trust them to do whatever they say because we’ve been very nervous since we had the hack, which was my fault for opening an attachment.

What is the team composition?

I go directly to my main point of contact. He then might pass my request on to one of his coworkers to give me a call. They go to my computer and fix whatever the issue is. I'm able to text them on WhatsApp and just ask what I should do when something comes up.

I knew them before because I worked with their previous company. I wanted to build my second website, so a friend of mine recommended them. That’s how I met Cyber Unit.

We’ve spent a few thousands of dollars since we started. We get charged if we need something, but we’re probably spending $1,500 or more a year.

We started working with Cyber Unit three years ago, in 2018. We have an ongoing partnership.

I know that if I have an issue and I’m nervous about something, it only takes a second to call them and they’ll answer right away. Their service is very good. They have a proactive approach; they’re the ones to tell us what we need. They take care of everything, and I don’t have to worry anymore.

We haven’t had any issues. If we need something, it gets done. If I email their main line, somebody calls me within a few minutes.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Cyber Unit is just a competent company. They can get into my machine whenever they want, and I trust them. They think about what we need and if they say we need something, we listen.

They’re the only company that we’ve worked with in this type of business. We had antivirus software installed before, and we took for granted that it was covering our security until we got into this trouble and went into more expense.

I really don’t know. We're happy with everything that we’ve received. So far, so good.

Listen to what they say and do it. If you’re somebody who really doesn’t know much about internet security or about what’s lurking behind Instagram, emails, and so on, leave it to somebody who knows. This isn’t our world — it’s their world, and that’s why we’re happy with Cyber Unit.

We’re a digital agency that does web design, SEO, and PPC. We started off locally. However, we’ve grown, and we now work with businesses all over.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cyber Unit?

We initially engaged with Cyber Unit because one of our four servers was hacked.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cyber Unit found a backdoor that was sending mass emails — around 500 per minute — and patched it. Within a week and a half, everything was up and running again.

Currently, Cyber Unit sends a monthly report and monitors and handles everything that has to do with our server, including our dark web and spam. They’re constantly updating our servers to ensure they work better for us. They also help us with website and email migrations for our clients from cPanel to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.

They monitor our day-to-day activities, like our company’s email, and they make sure that our employees aren’t clicking any malicious links. Aside from the server and the monitoring of our computers, we also get a report with information about hack attempts and other aspects of it. They help anytime one of our clients needs support or is hacked. For example, one of my client’s websites went down, and iWeb said it was lost. However, Cyber Unit was able to restore it. 

What is the team composition?

I think Cyber Unit’s team has 8–9 people, and they’re hiring two more. However, I work with at least 3–4 people.

How did you come to work with Cyber Unit?

Before Cyber Unit, we met with four other local companies and hired 2–3, but they couldn’t get the job done. There were still spam emails being sent. I joined a Business Network International (BNI) breakfast meeting and met Cyber Unit there.

We talked about my situation and how I had some issues no one else could figure out. He engaged, and we met as a team. We tested the waters and haven’t turned back since. Their team fixed my problem and was the most affordable solution, which was how we knew that we could work together.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested around $60,000–$70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in early January 2018, and the partnership is ongoing. We don’t pay a monthly agreement. However, they always help us whenever we need them. For instance, I referred them last week to help someone migrating all of their emails to Google Workspace.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Because this industry is new and too technical for me, I’m not entirely sure what the original server issue was. We were just talking about passwords and the dark web, and Cyber Unit figured out one of my major passwords, which was really intriguing to me.

Also, I had around 110 websites on our server that were entrusted to us. When the server got hacked, we panicked. I don’t know what Cyber Unit did, but they fixed it. I’ve never had an issue since — they’re experts with servers.

In addition to that, I really like Cyber Unit’s onboarding process because they treat our customers like their own. They’re easy to work with and safe. Although I’m not a technical person, they make it easy for me and help me with everything. If there’s a problem, Cyber Unit has a solution.

How did Cyber Unit perform from a project management standpoint?

Cyber Unit works remotely, which makes it easy — they can just tap in. We just download a bit of script on our computer, they link them, and then they take it away from there.

They have a support ticketing system. However, we’ve become pretty close over the last few years. I just send them a text, and they assign a case for me within 30 minutes. They have an automatic response system, but you get a call back regarding your request right away.

The team’s project management is pretty good. They use Zoho for project and organizational management. . We communicate through Google Meet but mainly email. I prefer email because I can track everything that I spend to cover myself — I prefer to have everything in writing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Cyber Unit is the perfect solution for IT and cyber services. They will not try just to sell you something if they can’t find a solution. They will tell you straight up that they’ll either work with you or find someone else who can help you out. A lot of other companies would just say yes to taking the job and then figure out a way to help you — I’ve seen that in the past.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Cyber Unit monitors and looks after my phone, emails, computers, and everything else. However, it would be nice if I could say whether I want my part-timer linked to it or not. I’d rather have just my full-time staff monitored instead of contractors.

Any advice for potential customers?

Just tell Cyber Unit where your pain points are and trust them. They’re never going to do anything malicious. Their business is successful because of companies like ours that trust their services.
