Cozy delivered what they promised within the timeline we set at the beginning of the project. We enjoyed the process from the kickoff call to the delivery of the final design to the follow-up once we implemented the design on our website. We appreciated all of the work that went into creating three options with the flexibility to combine elements from one design to another. We ended up with a design we were very happy with, and we are currently implementing it into the rest of our Service pages.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cozy Design, Inc.?

As a small team, art direction is not one of our areas of expertise. Therefore, we enlisted the help of Cozy Design, Inc. to not only assist us with the wireframe but also provide their artistic eye and direction.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

With the help of Cozy Design, Inc., we transformed our mid-fidelity mock-ups into high-fidelity mock-ups through their expertise in UI and UX. 

The first step was having a discovery call with one of the team members. From there, we completed an onboarding survey. We then had two kick-off meetings with the Cozy Design, Inc. team about the project. 

It was a three-week engagement, so we had a weekly status email, and at the end, they provided a drop of the materials, including a Loom recording describing the handoff. We had a final handoff call to finalize the transfer of files and ensure that all the design was to our liking. 

While they didn't assist us in developing user personas, they did aid us in optimizing the UX for said personas.

We shared our brand guidelines with them, which included details on colors, typography, and mid-fidelity wireframes. However, they took the initiative to further improve and refine these elements as part of their engagement with us.

We've been utilizing Figma for our internal operations, and it has provided us with all the necessary tools. Additionally, we have a functional Webflow page that has been successfully integrated.

The quality of their work was excellent, and we only had to make a few minor changes. Cozy Design, Inc. fully grasped the task and provided a workable solution for our intended implementation.

We have one main creation flow in our product, and the UI structure and some of the design metaphors they have added to that were transformative and impactful.

The team from Cozy Design, Inc. did an excellent job and adhered to the agreed-upon fixed price. The timeline was what we expected, and there were regular updates throughout the process. 

To manage this project, we utilized Figma's commenting feature and relied on email for project coordination.

I'm very impressed with the high quality of the design. There was very little back and forth needed to get to a design we were happy with.

The project was brief, but Cozy Design, Inc. did an excellent job with it. There isn't room for improvement in any area.

Cozy Design, Inc. give their clients an onboarding survey. They are attempting to capture the essence you aim to convey through your project. When completing the onboarding survey, it is important to be honest and thoughtful. Consider your unique project and the ideal user who will utilize the product. Immerse yourself in the persona's mindset and dedicate ample time.

We used Cozy to create our logo and a small brand kit.

We worked with Cozy to help us create a logo. As a brand-new business, we only had a name and needed visuals. The team provided us with mood boards to give us an idea of their concepts. Then, they shared 6–8 logo concepts. Their resources also shared branding assets on things like shirts and cups so we could see how the logos would look in situ. 

We went through a couple of rounds of feedback, but we chose on the spot since we were a decisive group. Once we selected a logo, Cozy provided all the logo files and a small brand guide, which included colors, typography, and usage guidelines. That way, we could take the logo ourselves and run with it.

We worked with three people from Cozy, including Lee (Founder & CEO) and Leanna (Design Director).

As Lee's long-time friend and business partner, I worked with him in many capacities. As a result, I knew the quality of his work. We came straight to him for this project since we knew they’d do a great job.

The project lasted from July–August 2022. It took around 45 days at most.

We had a logo to use as soon as we needed to use it. Cozy delivered high-quality work. We asked for a fast turnaround time, and they achieved it for us. On top of that, we loved the logo; we were happy with it. They took our feedback on the logo’s color, but they hit the nail on the head in terms of the logo’s design.

How did Cozy Design, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Cozy was on top of the project. They delivered earlier than they originally communicated to us. Overall, their project management was spot on, and the project moved truly quickly — this was exactly what we needed. To communicate, we mainly used Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their work quality was incredible. The team provided extensive mood boards before we got into the logo concepts. As a result, we understood what we were going to get, helping us center on who we wanted to be since the logo was an extension of ourselves and a reflection of our brand.

No, there weren’t any. They gave us exactly what we needed based on budget, timing, and quality. Overall, we had a successful and quick project.

I’m the director of product at Glovebox, an insurance technology company working to improve the customer experience of shopping for, using, and managing insurance policies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Cozy Design, Inc.?

When I first joined Glovebox, we had some technology built out. We were working with paying customers and insurance agencies that were purchasing our software, but we had major holes in our platform. We originally launched our product as a mobile app with some backend technology to connect it to carriers so that they could see users’ insurance policy information and documents. However, we didn’t have a formal platform facing those insurance companies, and our product had functionality gaps because of that, so we hired Cozy to help us work those issues out.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cozy has been instrumental in helping us figure out major pieces of functionality for our platform. They’re in charge of the UX design using Figma, so they’re essentially our design team and collaborate with our development team to develop those features.

Now, we have a consumer-facing app, a B2B web portal, and an internal administration panel. The app itself is both for iOS and Android, and it has a responsive web version as well. It is a very complex platform that touches on a lot of different areas.

The way our workflow works is as follows: I’m in charge of prioritizing projects and tasks, and I provide Cozy with a brief of the requirements for each of those projects and tasks. Then, they work with our development team to come up with a solution for the UX side of things.

As for the specific projects we’ve worked on, I have two great examples. For one project, we redesigned our consumer-facing app and relaunched it. Before Cozy joined the project, we had another vendor working on the redesign, but we weren’t happy with the outcome. Once we brought Cozy, they redesigned the app within two months.

For the second project, Cozy has been working with us on a wide-ranging update across our platform. This update will allow us to handle not only personal insurance policies but also commercial policies.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with two main people from Cozy: Leanna (Design Director) and Meng (Designer). Lee (Founder & CEO) has also been participating in the project, weighing in and helping out with strategic decisions. Additionally, we’ve worked with Abigail (Producer), who assists with logistics and schedules meetings, and a couple of other people who get in and out of the projects as needed, including Katie (Designer) and a new project manager.

How did you come to work with Cozy Design, Inc.?

We weren’t happy with the results we were getting from our previous design agency, so we decided to look around and ask for recommendations. A friend of mine who also has a UX design background recommended Cozy.

We also talked with a couple of other design agencies, but Cozy seemed to be the best fit for what we were looking for. They had done design work for banking and financial clients with complex UX, as well as some UI design for laboratory software. Therefore, they seemed to be comfortable with diving into an industry where they didn’t have domain knowledge and learning what needed to be known in order to deliver a good design solution.

How much have you invested with them?

A few months after signing a contract with Cozy, we increased our monthly spending with them because we needed more capacity. Now, we pay around $12,000 per month. In total, we’ve spent around $150,000.

We started working together around October 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app redesign has been very well received. We had around 35,000 users updating their app within the first week of launch, so we’re very happy with the outcome of that project.

Overall, Cozy has been awesome to work with. I believe they didn’t have prior insurance domain knowledge, so we’ve been teaching them a lot about insurance. As a result, they’ve been solving UX problems and coming up with innovative approaches to how the information should be presented to agents, customers, and business partners.

How did Cozy Design, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m very happy with Cozy’s project management, and we haven’t had any issues with budget management so far. They’ve kept a very reactive role in the project, where I tell them what we need to work on next. Still, they’re eager to start pinpointing opportunities for us to build towards, as we want to evolve our engagement into a more design-led approach. Additionally, they’re very good at giving us visibility into what they’re working on and when we will deliver.

We usually communicate via Slack, and we have a 30–45-minute weekly call to sync up on standing projects. Throughout our engagement, we’ve used different project management tools. Initially, we used ClickUp, and we’re now experimenting with Monday. Still, we’ve been able to keep projects managed by using Figma and communicating regularly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I value Cozy’s ability to come into an industry where they don’t have a lot of background knowledge, grasp the knowledge we’ve provided them, and turn around a solution that matches and dovetails with our needs. They don’t just focus on UX design, but on top of that, they understand the importance of UX within a broader organizational context, which is really powerful.

I really appreciate the fact that Cozy is very eager to do more than provide design deliverables. They want to get ahead of our product roadmap and start figuring out how to solve now some of the problems on the horizon. Additionally, they’re very responsive and flexible. For example, we suddenly came up with branding guidelines, and Cozy was on top of updating any designs they had already done to meet those guidelines.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Once we start working on parallel projects and having them work on more than one project at the same time, it would be nice to see Cozy stick with a project management system to track everything. So far, they’ve been great at providing us with estimates and as much information as needed, and we haven’t required a project management tool because we work on a project at a time. Still, as our workload increases, we will need to start using a project management tool.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you can do it, give them broad access to your data and the freedom for them to explore and figure out the most impactful design projects for you instead of just telling them what to do. I feel like we haven’t used Cozy to their maximum potential due to how our company is structured, but they would work best if they take the lead instead of just following instructions.

The project was quite straightforward. Cozy created the designs on Figma, and we developed them on Webflow. From there, we used Markup to provide comments and feedback. Then, we were good to go and pushed it live on Webflow. 

The website was a one-pager annual report. It had content and links so users could easily find information and click on things they needed to read in the report. It was designed to be consumed as simply and quickly as possible.

Working with Lee was a breeze; he was so fun to work with because he was clear and straightforward. We got everything that we wanted from the project. All the processes were well laid out, and the issues were resolved right away. 

Moreover, the team was flexible in discussing the project’s scope and any curveballs that came our way. Overall, working with them was easy.

Cozy met our deadlines and stayed on budget. We mainly communicated over emails; we didn’t use any other project management tool.

We needed to rebuild our outdated product platform from the ground up. We turned to Cozy Design to help us with the design, layout, and workflows.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided Cozy Design with video diagrams that covered the depth and breadth of the product itself. They were also given some demos of our existing product platform along with other supporting documentation. They then went into creating basic screen layouts with new fonts and color schemes. Their team also did some baseline user testing on the early design via wireframes.

Cozy Design was good at spending more time where needed but also putting in additional effort to help us stay on track with our timelines. We had a client advisory group that participated in the process and provided feedback along the way, and they found that the general quality of the team’s work was there.

They performed very well on this front. Abigail was great at keeping us on track and keeping us informed. We had multiple recurring meetings with them every week to review the design and provide feedback. It was all very organized. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

What stood out about Cozy Design was their ability to think outside the box. We went into the project with a very narrow view of how we could redo the designs, but they helped us step outside of our comfort zone and think of the bigger picture. Working with the team really opened our minds to different possibilities. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Some of the tools they used, such as the ones for video conferencing and design sharing, were not very user-friendly or accessible through iOS or Android. We had to work around that a little bit, but I wouldn’t say that it was a shortcoming on Cozy Design’s part. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Keep in close contact with Cozy Design. Establish a good working relationship with them because they really will become part of your team even though they’re just a consulting group or outsourced designers. If you can do this, you’ll have a greater opportunity for success.

We hired Cozy Design to help us with some Adobe Photoshop work for a set of graphics that we were open sourcing in a Figma plugin.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Cozy Design did two streams of work around the same body of assets. The team helped us superimpose graphics into photographs, and they made templates in Adobe Photoshop and Figma. The work they did for us was a combination of graphic design, photography, and production — then all of their work could be seen on what our internal team had built. In total, they completed around 30 images for us. Since this was an open-source project, the images they produced became free assets for the design community.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We looked at the image downloads of Cozy Design’s work to see their impact on our engagement. Overall, we were very pleased that the design community told us that our content was valuable and that our templates were very helpful. On top of that, their work was shared 40,500 times.

How did Cozy Design, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management process was incredibly exceptional, and their contract process was easy. When we called them, we’d often walk them through our files and set a schedule for their outputs. One time, there was a holiday in the middle of our schedule milestones and they were able to accommodate that. As a result, everything was delivered on time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most special thing about working with them was their name because we really felt like we were working with a friend. We had a very respectful partnership, and they made it easy for us to talk to them. More importantly, they looked out for us and made helpful suggestions — they didn't just simply take orders from us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I guess it would be a cheap shot to say that they should’ve done things right the first time since we had a set of changes that we had planned for. On top of that, those changes we implemented made our project really great. Overall, there was nothing that they could improve.

For any project outsourcing, make sure that you’ll hire a company with the technical skills and creative competence that are required to do the job you want them to do. On top of that, look at their portfolio. If you’re considering hiring Cozy Design, be clear about what you’re asking for and ask to see some examples of their work.
