Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of Angel Arms of Hope, a children’s education nonprofit. We aim to elevate the educational standards of children’s homes within Kenya by providing learning materials, personable solutions, practical in-home tutoring, and applying best sanitation practices. With COVID-19 closing most schools, we had the opportunity to refurbish some of the learning ages within the home.

Apart from children’s education, we provide sustainable solutions like a chicken farm project and small scale hydroponics in each home so they can have access to protein and plant and grow crops. We hope to provide a good education and cultivate a better living with these sustainable solutions.

What challenge were you trying to address with Compwiz Creations?

We wanted someone to develop a website for us. We initially had a limited WordPress website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a custom website that goes beyond the features of a WordPress site. The homes we visit don’t usually get a lot of traffic, so one of the website features is a Google Maps integration where we can link the location of the homes. Donors can easily locate them and provide them with the support they need through this functionality. 

One of the reasons we needed a website was to create awareness of what we do.

They developed the homepage, which talks about who we are. The website includes various sections like a request to view reports of homes, video and photo documentation, and an area for our blogs and donations. There is also a section called “fresh eyes” where non-group members can share their documented experiences.

What is the team composition?

I worked primarily with Mitch (Director & Co-Founder) and interacted with one other person as well.

How did you come to work with Compwiz Creations?

Our previous WordPress site wasn’t sufficient, so I reached out to a friend who is also our developer. He referred me to Mitch. After a few years, I decided to contact him, and I was so impressed. We gave them a probation period, and we’ve been happy working with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested less than $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together in August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve interacted with a few people and asked for their opinion. It’s a very easy and user-friendly website. Users aren’t wasting their time finding the right information.   

The design of the site is really excellent. If users don’t have a strong internet connection, it might take longer for things to load, but if there’s a great connection, it’s perfect.

How did Compwiz Creations perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re excellent. Any time we came across a bug, we’d call them, and they were very responsive. If we couldn’t reach them by phone call, they gave us an email where we could send our concerns. They’re efficient, and their communication is really good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Most web developers I’ve worked with are rigid. Their team is friendly. They have a good work ethic and deliver when they say they will.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There are times we explained something to Mitch, and maybe he’d misunderstand our point of view. If we interacted with more people, there might’ve been more opportunities for them to understand our vision.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Meet the deadlines on your side. They work really fast. It’d be good to have all your things in order before you interact with them. Asking them what they need before they start the project is an essential question everyone should ask.

What challenge were you trying to address with Compwiz Creations?

We needed help with web development for one of our clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Compwiz Creations did the coding for a client’s web app. They used PHP for the frontend, Laravel on the backend, and MySQL for the database.

They delivered the MVP and incorporated feedback. They also hosted the completed solution.

What is the team composition?

There were two people that I was in contact with, and there were others on the backend.

How did you come to work with Compwiz Creations?

They were recommended by a friend of mine as a very good team.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project took place from July–August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their quality is good. They’re responsive. Whenever we detected an issue, Compwiz Creations was keen to correct it. 

The team was also very clear on expressing what could and couldn’t be done. They’re good partners to have. We’ll continue to partner with them to support the product as it’s being rolled out into the market.

How did Compwiz Creations perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is good. They tracked the project on Asana. I’m able to provide comments. We have visibility to what’s going on.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their price is reasonable and they’re very straightforward about what can and can’t be done. Also, they’re innovative in terms of what’s trending.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could have a better platform for testing. Otherwise, I’m happy with their work.

Be clear on expectations. Do thorough testing so they can address any bugs before you go live.

What challenge were you trying to address with Compwiz Creations?

I was looking for someone to build my website and develop any applications necessary for my practice.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Compwiz Creations built my website from scratch. They also developed an online storage and application for me to carry out my audit work. Rather than having a manual system, the online system is much more efficient. I can collaborate and use it with my staff.

What is the team composition?

I was mainly dealing with one person but from what I understand, there was a team of two or three working on the project. I had a project leader who I was dealing with directly, and he dealt with the other people on the team.

How did you come to work with Compwiz Creations?

I came across them through a reference. I was looking and asking around, and someone I knew through work gave me a reference. With them having the technical expertise, I felt they were the right people to build the tools that I need for my work.

How much have you invested in them?

I have spent around $6,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work started in December 2018 and concluded in June 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The quality of their work is excellent. I have not had any problems because they deliver. Compwiz Creations is very skilled, and the quality of work is both high and exactly what we’re looking for. It’s had a positive impact on my business and has increased efficiency. 

The website is very good, and it enhances the brand image. It is a relatively new business and as it is growing, I’m spending more time marketing it. The website is really helping with that, so it has definitely had a positive impact.

How did Compwiz Creations perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication is very good in the sense that at the start of the project, they gave me a lot of time to explain what I needed and all the specs. Once the work started, we had frequent communication to make sure that we were on the right track. 

The team always goes out of their way if changes are needed, and they will cater you. They keep a good line of communication right up until the end and that is what really gets the project done well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I think their strongest point is the technical skills and knowledge. Their experience is very good so they are able to deliver, and they exceed expectations. Even from a design point of view, their designs are very good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing specific. From my personal experience, I am pretty happy. I would just say to keep going the same way. They have a satisfied customer in me, and I just want them to keep it up as far as my projects go.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Give them as much clarity in what the company wants them to do. If you don’t clarify things as much as possible and give them details, then you limit their delivery to you.

Their work was superb. They’re good at what they do. The logo came out well.

They were excellent. Whatever timeframe they promise, they handle the job within it. Communication is good between our teams. When they were doing the logo for us, there were numerous meetings about choosing the colors and they stayed engaged with everything that they’re doing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They engaged us every step of the way and we felt we were part of the whole process. The end result reflected what we wanted for the company.
