Zimit is a software company. We develop software for the professional services industry such as consulting companies and engineering firms. It’s specifically for forecasting, quoting, and scheduling with people. I’m one of the co-founders.

What challenge were you trying to address with CodeIT?

We’re a software shop. We have a lot of development work. Cost is a big driver. We’re looking for quality offshore at a good price.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our application requires a full blow audit trail with every transaction that the system has. The team has developed a very simple UX on an iPad where you can point, click, and go back in time to see all these transactions live. It’s very effective from a UX perspective.

The technologies that we use are mainly Angular on the frontend and Node on the backend. We’re an Angular-Node shop.

What is the team dynamic?

They provide us with a team that we manage. They’re an integral part of our software development team. The number of projects is continuous. Every month there’s new modules and new functionality. They also provide support for our customers. They’re just part of the company. All the work is in Ukraine. The number of team members is by request. I give them ample time for what I need. I interview and select the people I need. We give ourselves time to select the best.

How did you come to work with CodeIT?

We looked at multiple countries and multiple companies and ended up with CodeIT after talking to about 20 firms. They were a personal reference. Another software startup, a friend of mine, was using them. That primarily pushed my decision. We had ticked all the boxes of good candidates and good resumes. We interviewed a bunch of other technical folks and their management. CodeIT met the criteria.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I rate all the team members, including the offshore team, on productivity, the amount of rework, and bugs. We’re all developers. We all come up with bugs. Some are more prone than others. So, we do track that. We don’t do it to reprimand, but to guide and ensure a better quality of code.

How did CodeIT perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re an international bunch with various languages. There is a slight language barrier, but their English is acceptable and improving over time. Time is not an issue. They practically work U.S. hours. We use video chat, Google Hangouts and Slack. The integration was straightforward. They’re humble guys and are hardworking. It’s been a very good experience.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The management team is very easy to work with. Whatever we need, they’re here. We’re in constant communication. They have very good resources, are humble, hard-working, have effective management, and are easy to work with. It makes less of a headache for me.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Anytime I saw an issue, they addressed it. There were communication issues, language issues, and written communication issues in the beginning, but they were addressed. The U.S. time zone was an issue early on and they addressed it, as well. These are generic offshore issues.

Do you have any advice for potential customers working with CodeIT?

Plan. If you just jump at them with your resource needs, I am not sure how they would respond. Maybe bigger firms have a bigger bench to respond. If you’re patient and you give them a horizon and you plan, you’re going to get a very good result. Just dropping, “I need ten people tomorrow,” that would be challenging.

I had a small coding job I needed completed.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They initially did the small coding job for me, and now every time I need work done, I just ask them to do it. It's progressed to where they've probably done six or seven websites for us, from scratch.

As we're an e-commerce company, 95% of our products are sold through distribution, but we also sell directly through our website for the do-it-yourselfers. CodeIT did everything with our site. I just gave them a color scheme, and they took it from there. They used Prototype on the backend.

What is the team dynamic?

I deal with Sergey [Manager Operations, CodeIT], as he speaks English and then translates it to the rest of the team. They also have a designer and different specialists depending on what the needs are for the job at hand.

About 10 years ago, I requested a small, coding job on Elance. They bid on it and they did it quickly and affordably.

To be frank, it looks cool and I like it.

How did CodeIT perform from a project management standpoint?

They are very responsive in terms of contact, apparently working around U.S. hours. They’re always available on Skype, and there are no language barriers. Our project to-do list is shared on Google Drive, and I check the items off as they do them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve never thrown anything at them that they didn’t know how to do. Many companies use canned website packages, but when I need custom work done, they can do it and they do a good job.

I was the CTO of SST.Net, a small mobile operator.

What challenge were you trying to address with CodeIT?

We needed a system for controlling the distribution of our SIM cards and other API-connected things. We needed a partner outside of Sweden, where having a couple of developers can be a bit costly.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had a bunch of APIs from different systems and I was working out a strategy for different system delivery partners. Someone had to bring this out to users via an ordering system. If, say, we sold 50 SIM cards to a company, they needed to activate those, and we needed to automate the process.

CodeIT helped us develop a web ordering system connected to many other systems, mostly regarding the SIM card distribution and activation on the network for cellular traffic. The main technologies used were PHP and MySQL. We used other technologies and let CodeIT suggest appropriate ones for our challenges. We eventually landed on a Linux environment with open-source languages.

What is the team dynamic?

I’ve been in contact with at least 10 people in total. Our team was always made up of around five people for a medium-sized project, from project manager to technical lead, business analyst, and testers. We had daily communication and mostly used Skype. There was a rapid development curve for multiple ongoing projects, including the ordering system.

How did you come to work with CodeIT?

I’ve worked with different outsourcing companies in India, Russia, and Bulgaria. This was my third or fourth outsourcing project, so I reached out to a couple of different types of programming firms for help with these system challenges. I was specifically looking for a long-term partner to outsource programming tasks to.

CodeIT had an understanding of the meaning behind our projects, and their biggest plus was that they were not afraid of telling me what they thought was the best technology or of discussing possible changes.

Sometimes, I have a basic thought of how I want to do things, but I hired CodeIT because they came with a lot of ideas on how to do things differently and with valid arguments on why their ideas could be better. They know how to set their minds on a project’s end-goal, its vision, and business model as opposed to just delivering the programming in a text file.

The cost of the initial project was around $100,000.

The initial project was to get things going and it took six months—it was very quick development. We worked with CodeIT for another 3½ years, as long as I was there. I believe they still have some work with that company.

We started as a virtual operator with zero SIM cards sold, and when I left, a large number had been sold—we couldn’t have done it without CodeIT. We could’ve chosen another outsourcing partner, but our strategy always needed an ordering system; CodeIT came through and delivered it.

We started virtual operator phone subscriptions on the set date thanks to them, going from the idea of starting a virtual operator in Sweden in October 2012 to launching the first subscription in April 2013.

How did CodeIT perform from a project management standpoint?

CodeIT has a good outsourcing system that includes a project management, business analysis, and testing structures. If we want to run an outsourcing project in a controlled and structured way, they have everything set. They also have a wide range of offerings, but on the technologies they prefer, they are very skilled.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have deep knowledge in the technologies they work with and it always feels like we can always bring in someone from CodeIT who gets the whole picture. They also have very skilled people on the lead tech positions. One person, in particular, is a superstar in coding, while also thinking about security and workflows. Overall, it was a smooth trip.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They have some programmers who are not very fluent in English. However, this is very specific and compared to other countries around Europe, CodeIT isn’t bad. Sweden, Denmark, and Finland have a bit of an advantage around the English language, and it’s something I mentioned to CodeIT as an improvement. They could send their people to courses, but 80% of them are as fluent as I am.

There are also some laws in Ukraine which affect contracts. There were some things we didn’t understand, from a Swedish standpoint, but it was never a problem. There are different ideas on how to conduct business in terms of paperwork.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Be thorough in the early stages on how to set goals of the projects, as well as of the company as a whole, so that they can do their magic. CodeIT should also be allowed to be creative and not strictly ordered. They have business analysts and testers, so clients should use those as well.

With the validated AI proof of concept in place, their team joined the project by setting up a data warehouse and building data collection pipelines to automate data intake. They then developed and trained the AI model and delivered a fully functional software solution with all the required features.

The iterative approach helped achieve the needed result in small steps with minor adjustments. Firstly, they released the pilot version of the software in one business unit for testing in a real-life environment. After successful testing, they released the full software and integrated it with the existing ERP. They also provided training to our team, ensuring a smooth and seamless transition.

Using AI, the solution forecasts demand based on historical data, seasonal trends, and external variables. Real-time insights are enabled through custom-built data-sharing pipelines.

I am the CMO of a marketing agency, in this case I am also the Produc Owner for the trading platform. Our partner has made a request to develop a platform that he wants to use as a tool for his students. In the long term, he is considering bringing the product to the global market. Initially our request looked quite simple: we need a trading platform with the fastest possible data updates and the ability to buy and sell assets. An important point was the possibility of finding a company with representatives in our own country. 

The main requirements for the finished product were: Stock monitoring, dashboards, stock information analytics, stock market insights, real time data, order control, forecasts using a special algorithm. According to our expectations, our expertise and knowledge of the requirements were enough to start work immediately, but in the process of negotiations we came to the conclusion that it would be better to additionally use the services of a business analyst and revise the scope of work. 

As a result, we came to the conclusion that 4 people would be enough to realize the project in time, which we were fully satisfied with. The development process went smoothly. All our wishes were taken into account and implemented gradually. A CodeIT representative was almost always in touch and provided information about all key stages of the work. Every issue that arose in the process was solved and we jointly selected the optimal solution that suited our budget. 

At the end we got the desired result: graphs that show the latest changes as quickly as possible. The current solution allows us to receive new data every 0.4 ms. Thanks to the integration with the price provider, we receive quotes for up to 50 assets. All of this is powered by Bigdata storage. The trading process is organized in real time with a transaction speed of 0.1 ms. 

The platform meets our expectations and also works comfortably on web and mobile versions. Now the product is used as an exclusive part of the training process and is used by the customer and his team for personal bidding.

The platform is actively utilized by new team members and students. Processes allow for quick response and keep assets under control at all times.

Thanks to quality management, communication with the team was not a problem, and the need for overtime only a couple times. Otherwise, the team was always in touch during business hours, and the responsible manager was available for any questions.
