One was a Flutter development project, and the other was a React Native development project. For these projects, we first provided them with documentation before they started development. These apps will be available for both iOS and Android.

For one of these apps, Leanware has been in charge of the development only. For the other app, they've been both in charge of the UI/UX design and the development.

Leanware has done a tremendous job of being flexible and thorough. They follow airtight processes and generate quality code. They’ve been a good partner.

Leanware's strong suit is the quality of their work, which is tremendous. They've done a wonderful job and have been honest. Those are the two takeaways from our engagement. I feel those are harder to find these days with various partners.

For one of our projects, Leanware had to take over an existing, unstable, and non-production-ready app. Their team has helped us turn that app into a very stable and solid product that I'm very happy to showcase.

How did Leanware perform from a project management standpoint?

Leanware has met deadlines and kept their promises. They're careful about what they say. We mostly communicate via Slack and have regular meetings.

I’m the founder and CEO of a project management and collaboration hub for couples and professional wedding planners during the planning process.

What challenge were you trying to address with Leanware?
We hired Leanware to help us with web design, UX design, engineering, and development. The team handled coding tasks and took the lead on everything from design to implementation from a technical standpoint. Our main goal was to have a team to help us design and implement our vision for the platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?
We started the engagement by explaining our product’s concept and walking Leanware through the intricacies of the wedding industry. Our team helped them get more acquainted with our vision. Carlos (CEO) went to our location to do this in person. From there, we had Zoom meetings with the rest of the team to show them some visual concepts.
 
After that, we created a prioritization framework for organizing the sprints. They took the lead in bringing a project management system into our process. Their resources set up a system for organizing and tracking the progress of the project. Then, we dove into designs and branding. Since we were a startup, Leanware assisted us with some of our initial branding needs, such as our logo and color scheme. We then shifted from the design phase to the actual product development.
 
At present, Leanware is developing the web app for us, and we may expand it to a mobile version. For key technologies, they use ClickUp and Figma. In terms of features, they’re working on the three core elements of the wedding planning process, namely the to-do list, the budget, and the guest list. There are a number of other features that we’ll develop after these.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re in the pre-launch stage right now, but we’ve been able to reach our MVP state in just six months, which is a speedy timeframe. Overall, Leanware exceeded our expectations. They’re intentional, aware, and effective in their implementation. They bring new ideas to the table and help us come up with new solutions to complex problems. Our experience has been extremely positive.

Leanware has been highly communicative about timeframes and expectations. Andrea has been organized and insightful in her involvement in the project management process. She’s added a lot of structure to the process and has been a great leader throughout the project. The Leanware team as a whole has also been a  positive addition to our company. We had the pleasure of partnering with Leanware to bring to life two major projects, along with a number of small fixes and delightful enhancements throughout our applications. 

Project 1: Employee Management — Previously, the process of creating new accounts for our customers' employees, granting appropriate permissions, and linking them to different entities within their accounts was a manual undertaking. Thanks to Leanware's expertise, a new page was integrated into our back office product, empowering our customers to efficiently manage their employees on their own terms. 

Project 2: Chat — Our mobile app enabled customers to engage in seamless communication with both each other and their own customers. However, replicating this functionality in our back office product presented challenges, as it required a tailored solution tied to a React Native library. 

Through their ingenuity, Leanware developed a custom chat and messaging React library from scratch, seamlessly integrated with our design system and existing bespoke solution. Throughout both projects, Leanware demonstrated exceptional capabilities in:

The success of these projects was primarily driven by output-focused goals. The key measurement of progress and accomplishment revolved around the completion status of each project. We evaluated their success based on whether the objectives were achieved and if the projects were delivered within reasonable timelines.

Leanware's project management approach was highly effective and collaborative. We adopted SCRUM methodology with week-long sprints, and our regular check-ins 3x a week ensured excellent communication and alignment throughout the engagement. One of the standout aspects of Leanware's performance was their consistent ability to deliver items on time. 

Their dedication and efficiency in meeting the sprint goals were commendable, allowing us to maintain a steady pace of progress. Leanware's responsiveness to our evolving needs was exemplary. Even when we encountered the need for sudden changes or hard pivots mid-sprint, they demonstrated remarkable adaptability and support. 

Their willingness to go the extra mile to accommodate our requirements was truly appreciated, and it made the entire collaboration feel like one cohesive team working towards shared objectives.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What impressed us the most about Leanware was how swiftly they onboarded and adapted to our unique implementations and requirements. Despite receiving incomplete product descriptions, they asked the right questions to fill in the gaps, and quickly caught on to our undocumented code patterns and styles without getting caught up in minor details. 

Their adaptability allowed us to feel at ease when introducing them to a new project, and not stress over the normal communication frustrations that appear when working with a third party.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Leanware could have done differently?

We were thoroughly satisfied with Leanware's performance and the overall collaboration. There were no specific areas for improvement or things they could have done differently.

I’m a director at  2Moon Capital LLC, an algorithmic trading startup.

What challenge were you trying to address with Leanware?

We didn’t have any software developers in-house, so we wanted an outside firm to partner with for software development services. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Leanware provides software development services for us. The team is helping us develop an automated trading platform. Initially, we met with their team, including the architects, and discussed the product requirements. Leanware created a preliminary design based on AWS’ cloud functionalities. We approved the design, and the team started the initial development. 

Since then, the scope has grown. We’ve had many cycles with Leanware in an iterative development process. The team constantly builds new features, changes features, and creates different components. In the first iteration, the team built the backend without a frontend piece. Currently, Leanware is building the platform’s frontend. They also maintain and evolve the existing platform. 

Our platform is primarily built using Python. Leanware has helped us build a code development pipeline in AWS using third-party components like GitHub. They also use Selenium, which enables us to interact with web pages and get data automatically without web browsing. 

The platform is designed for us to enact a trading strategy that generates input for the automated trading engine in AWS. Some key features include the ability to open trades, monitor them, and close them automatically based on inputs determined by the strategy, which comes from an external system. 

What is the team composition?

Initially, we worked with two senior backend developers, two junior backend developers, a software architect, and a project manager. Over time, we’ve worked with six developers. Currently, we work with five developers from Leanware, including a couple of frontend developers. 

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Leandro (Backend Developer) has been involved in the project from the beginning, even though the staffing has changed. He’s taken ownership of the planning and leadership of the team. I interact with Leandro daily and have seen how he’s grown, starting as a junior or medium-level developer and stepping into a senior role, which has been very helpful. 

How did you come to work with Leanware?

We found them through a referral from our internal team; a couple of teammates had worked with Leanware at another company.

We’ve spent just over $500,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around February 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We have a very good relationship and working process with Leanware. We work in very quick sprints where we try to build, break, and fix things fast and evolve quickly, and Leanware has been very accommodating with that way of working. 

Our company is still in startup mode, and we haven’t launched the platform into production, so we don’t have solid metrics on the engagement’s impact yet. The most significant success we’ve accomplished with Leanware is having a functional automated trading platform that we continue to evolve.

Moreover, we enjoy working with Leanware’s team. Although none of their developers had previous experience building a trading platform, they’ve been able to understand the concept and business logic over time despite the challenges.

How did Leanware perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been accommodating in helping us iterate very quickly in sprints. The product is unlike anything they’ve built before, so we’re learning from trying things and redoing them together, adjusting our processes as we go. 

Additionally, Leanware has been very flexible in adapting to our way of working. For example, Leanware initially provided a dedicated project manager. Then, we determined we should handle the project management, and Leanware accommodated us. Now, we have direct contact with the developers, who feel like in-house teammates. 

Leanware is very organized, providing reports on the hours they’ve worked. We communicate through phone calls three times a week to discuss the project’s progress. We also use Slack almost every day to communicate. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Leanware’s ability to adapt to our methodology is their biggest strength. Many software development firms are very rigid in how they work with clients. Our company is very unique in that we’re still figuring out how to work. Therefore, having a flexible partner that can change direction quickly has been very helpful. Leanware doesn’t only develop quality products; they’ve become a part of our organization. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We haven’t had any major complaints about their work in a long time. The most significant issue we’ve had has been when the junior developers need more guidance when they start, but that’s to be expected. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’ve gotten to know Leanware’s director personally, and they approach their clients similarly. The team is very open and doesn’t leave anything off the table. Therefore, I recommend treating Leanware as a true partner; be open about your business goals. An engagement with Leanware isn’t just about developing software but about them understanding the business side of your company — and they’re very good at that.

I’m the head of product at Groundlight, a Computer Vision-oriented startup.

What challenge were you trying to address with Leanware?

We’ve hired Leanware to augment our full stack development capabilities because we didn’t have enough internal front- and backend developers.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially brought Leanware in on a trial basis to start with frontend work and implement features. After that, we decided to bring in a backend developer. Our product is a Computer Vision API, and Leanware has been adding features to that base product. The system is a management system for creating and tracking the improvement of detectors over time as they train on new image data provided by human labelers.

A person can create a detector and send images against it to get immediate answers; Leanware is building the UI, which presents the images to users. They’re also involved with our labeling teams; we send them reports on their performance, and they send back responses to those reports. Those responses are then integrated into the overall flow of the product.

The technology stack includes React Native on the frontend and Django on the backend. Leanware helps us choose tools to use for long-term efficiency.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Leanware has been able to unblock our frontend product development effort completely. We’ve gone from doing a small amount of frontend work to being able to launch substantial work every 2–3 weeks. They push us to be productive and move more quickly in defining and expanding the product. They also help us get more feedback in a timely manner. 

From a quality perspective, they’ve been performing very well; we put them through our review process, and we’ve been happy with the work, so we’ve been letting them work more independently. 

How did Leanware perform from a project management standpoint?

We’ve been happy with their ability to deliver work on a healthy cadence. The work is open-ended, so it’s difficult to say they’re staying on budget and within a deadline, but we’ve been happy with them. We communicate primarily through Slack and use Jira for project management. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Leanware is curious and dedicated to learning about our process. They also offer proactive suggestions, which we appreciate. We started this process looking for an outsourcing partner and feel like we’ve ended up with so much more. We respect their input; they’re a smaller consultancy, but they take ownership of everything, and their senior developers are always around to support us. 

They’re extremely proactive about keeping the code quality up, and Leanware is transparent when things aren’t going in a way they are satisfied with. We know they care about our product and are committed to its success. Leanware’s priority is supplying value. We trust their judgment because they are extremely reliable. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’ve struggled a little to integrate their design team on a part-time basis. Our product is not what they’re used to working on, so we need to give Leanware more visibility and greater ownership in the process to make that process more effective. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be open with them because they are extremely capable and have experience with many domains relevant to industrial automation. They are sensitive to everyone’s needs, and if you work with them to make a plan, you’ll do well. As an organization, they have the right machinery to grow into a more sophisticated partnership rather than a fixed scope.

I’m the manager of dental engagement at Docbraces. We’re a network of orthodontic clinics across Canada and parts of the US. I assist our treatment coordinators and clinics, engage with their dental community, and help them with their patient conversion to get them to start orthodontic treatments.

What challenge were you trying to address with Leanware?

We wanted to develop a software tool to help our clinics create contracts for the patients’ orthodontic treatments. The tool also needed to create a product that our clinics could use as a presentation of treatment and payment options to work with the patient and find the option that could work best for them.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Leanware has designed and developed a web application for us. First, we had a discovery phase where we shared our current tool and our vision for what we wanted. We also shared the parameters the application needed to have. 

For the UI/UX design, Leanware recommended some features and functions to make development easier and the final app more straightforward for users. We already had our user personas. Leanware guided us on the best way to make the app secure and user-friendly. When they did the initial design, they sent us Figma files and Loom videos for us to approve before coding. 

From there, Leanware built the application in sprints. During development, they presented us with the app for feedback and testing. We provided live feedback, and Leanware made adjustments and improvements throughout the development stage. 

Currently, Leanware is developing a new version of the app based on our clinics’ feedback. They also provide maintenance for the app. 

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with Carlos (CEO), Andrea (Product Manager), and Jarvy (Co-Founder). Additionally, 5–7 other members of Leanware’s team also work on our project.

The initial development lasted from July–August 2022, and our last update was in January 2023. Our engagement with Leanware is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The tool Leanware produced has increased our visibility to multiple clinics simultaneously, helping us save person-hours and our clinic team members save time. Patients who can't come to our offices can now sign contracts digitally, which has been a huge help. We can collect patient information more securely thanks to Leanware's work. 

Our internal team also likes how user-friendly the app is — it's straightforward. Our teammates were used to a complicated Excel spreadsheet, so they've found the web app much simpler, especially for new staff members. The app makes everything easy to follow and hard to make a mistake. Overall, we really like the app's flow and its look and feel. 

Moreover, Leanware is very responsive to our feedback and any bugs that arise. We've been so happy with Leanware's work that we've chosen to continue our relationship with them and have them build the app's next version. 

How did Leanware perform from a project management standpoint?

They're excellent at project management. The team hasn't only stayed within our budget but also included extra tasks and requirements while maintaining the same deadlines and costs. 

We have direct communication with them through Slack and email, and they're very responsive and always follow through on their promises. For example, I sent them a message about a spelling error this morning, and they fixed it within a minute. 

During development, we held twice-weekly Google Meet or Zoom meetings with the team to review the status. Leanware is very open and transparent and always looks to us for clarification.

Leanware's biggest strengths are their dedication and affordable fees.

I can't think of anything for Leanware to improve; they've been amazing.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of Elephant CPA. We’re a Cloud-based practice management software solution for small to medium size accounting firms across the United States.

What challenge were you trying to address with Leanware?

Another company created our MVP, but we felt like we needed to move on from them to a new development team to scale the business. We wanted to get some experience working with a team that had built in this industry and had experience working with other companies similar to ours.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Leanware has developed some custom software for us and made improvements to our existing solutions. They're heavily focused on security, which is our main concern when it comes to our clients and the sensitive information that we're passing back and forth through the software. They installed all our endpoints and some cybersecurity checkpoints to make sure that everything is secure on the front- and backend.

Any time we need some type of changes on the software itself for an update or refresh, they’ll create a mock-up on Figma to show us what the end result would look like. Their development team will then work on the architecture of it, and they will put it into production after it's been tested heavily.

The feedback from our customers has been outstanding. One of Leanware’s best abilities is that if there's ever a firestorm, they're always quick to put it out, so the measurability from a comfort standpoint is pretty high.

Overall, Leanware has done a phenomenal job, and we enjoy the results that they're giving us. We’re really excited to see where we take the product from here and how Leanware can help us.

Leanware has performed well in terms of project management. They work on an agile basis and deliver on a bi-weekly schedule. We meet with them three times per week to keep everything transparent.

First, we discussed with Leanware’s team the software we wanted to develop. They didn’t require us to have a well-defined scope, and they understood our ideas quickly. They translated our description into use cases and stories and estimated the project’s cost.

After that, Leanware has proceeded to develop the app in two phases. They’re using Python, DynamoDB, and AWS Lambda to build the software, and it’s hosted in AWS. It has a microservices-based architecture.

How did Leanware perform from a project management standpoint?

Leanware is very good at project management; they’ve been very organized. We have weekly status meetings where they update us on their progress. We communicate through Slack.

Carlos is very experienced, and he has quickly understood our business problem. He has a good grasp of the project both from a technological and business perspective.

They can use tools and technologies to help their customers track the project’s completion.

Be open, collaborative, and engaged in the project. Talk to their developers regularly.
