What challenge were you trying to address with Byteridge?

Cricket is a popular sport in India, and there’s a festival for it called the “Indian Premier League.” It’s a two-month cricket season, and, during this time, we saw the engagement for our flagship game (Teen Patti Gold) go down. We wanted to build a cricket betting feature inside our game, and we went to Byteridge because we didn’t have web developers in-house, just full-stack game developers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Byteridge developed a cricket betting app for us, and our team provided backend support. We onboarded one of their engineers as a contractor, and he worked from our office, handling all frontend web development using the Vue.js tech stack.

The mobile app we already have in place opens a web link to the platform made with Byteridge. It’s basically a cricket feature that opens in mobile browsers.

We only worked with a software engineer.

How did you come to work with Byteridge?

Their founder had worked with one of our directors at another company. I interviewed three firms in total and picked Byteridge because they were passionate about what we were planning to do. We come from a mobile gaming development background, and passion matters to us. They asked the right questions regarding what we were trying to do and what challenges we thought they could help us with.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Byteridge in late February or early-March 2019, and we’ve launched the platform. It was bound by a hard deadline, given that the cricket season starts in April.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We saw an engagement spike during cricket matches due to this feature. We have a top-end payer section, and some of our payers really enjoy the feature. We’ve gotten direct calls from those users, stating this.

Byteridge’s developer was very helpful, and I don’t think we could’ve done it without him. We went through multiple iterations, and the first one didn’t perform well during user testing. It’s a complex feature that allows users to follow multiple matches simultaneously. We found that it was too complex, so we had to further simplify being able to switch between different bets and matches. Byteridge was able to execute those changes.

How did Byteridge perform from a project management standpoint?

Their developer worked as a contractor for us. It all went really well, and I have no complaints in terms of time management or timekeeping. I could call someone from their office in case I had any issues.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I enjoyed the fact that I could interview the resource before hiring them; they were very cooperative. This wasn’t possible with some of the other firms we’ve worked with, who made us sign a contract and pay them before introducing us to someone. Additionally, Byteridge understood what the nature of the project was, and that it only required one programmer.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. This was “one programmer, one project,” thing for me. If I had worked with them on multiple projects, I may have identified something.

Clients should be upfront with them about project expectations regarding deadlines and other variables.

What challenge were you trying to address with Byteridge?

We wanted to expose people to our new brand name. We wanted to create a mobile app to communicate with our customers. Our vision was to create audio-visual pop-ups that can be seen through scans of our brand logo to market our pipes.

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we discussed our vision for the software and basic architecture with their CEO. Then, they developed our mobile app's front- and backend. They developed our backend using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies. It was a challenge for us was to translate our logo onto different mediums. They designed the logo to pair with the app so plumbers could easily access our audiovisual advertisements and product line. They helped us launch the app in January 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Byteridge delivered on time with everything they promised—with no significant issues. The feedback was positive, and the app made us a technological leader in the plumbing industry in India. Once the application was live, our products sold out quickly. Our demand has grown so much and we had to double our production. We had to shut down the app as we couldn't keep up with the demand. After we reach a certain stage, we’ll launch the app again with CRM features. We are planning to work with Byteridge on this further development as well.

How did Byteridge perform from a project management standpoint?

We had one or two meeting during the initial stages of development to address a few questions. After that, we used email to communicate. It was my first experience with app development, and Byteridge made sure everything went smoothly. Their IT team reported quickly to us with updates or issues.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understood our requirements and vision really well. They delivered on time and exactly the way we wanted it. The CEO was hands-on and available for communication.

I'm the CEO of an Artificial Intelligence start-up which caters largely to 3D content development industry. It is incorporated an year ago. We are working on a patented product which has implications to augmented and virtual reality applications, as well as ones for 3D printing, video conferencing, and virtual meetings.

The app was initially developed by someone else, but we had some problems with that person, so we came to Byteridge for the rescue. They were able to help me with it, and it's currently up-and-running.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a client application exclusively for Android. We wanted to show our investors what the product was all about, so we needed to develop an Android client for it. Our algorithm is currently running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). It’s still in the prototype stage.

We are working with a team of three developers. Their engagement began with understanding our requirements and identified the issues in the current application. They have come up with the solution to fix issues to run the application.

How did you come to work with Byteridge?

I was searching for best application development companies and got to know about Byteridge through one of my friend. I'm happy with them and will continue the collaboration. They are good at writing the best quality code and follow the best practices in the industry to develop best applications. I found interest in their work in Analytics, AI/ML and IoT space.

We have invested around $30K-$50K so far on their services. We have still few additional features to add to the current application, where we are taking help from Byteridge.

The app created by our previous developer wasn't functional. Byteridge fixed it; it’s up-and-running now.

I was in constant contact with one of their members—the head of Business Development. Documentation and project kick-off were smooth and fast.

There were some problems from my previous technology partner, so they weren't able to meet my deadlines. My server specialist had to work with their resource, which led to some changes in the process. They're generally good with deadlines. They have taken care of the project management and delivered the product.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're a friendly team. I wasn't well-versed with the Android technologies being used. I considered myself a layman in that area, but they found time to explain the things I didn’t understand, using my own terms.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Initially, there were communication challenges due to my partner based out of different time zone but they figured out and understood the requirement very fast. They are open and go the extra mile to solve issues and complete the work. They are flexible and acted as an extended team to help me build the best product in the market. They are a small team of developers and I advise them to increase the team size to cater more customers in future.

We're an internet of things (IoT) development company. We started out with some home automation products and we're currently the only licensee of a popular IoT solution in our market.

Our solutions allow users to control their appliances from anywhere in the world, using voice and touch. We have integrations with all the voice assistants available, including Google Assistant, Smart Voice Assistant, and Siri. We have Android and iOS apps available, but we’re focusing on promoting the Android version at the moment. I'm the COO.

What challenge were you trying to address with Byteridge?

We wanted to develop an Android app for the smart-home solution we were building. The app needed to interact with our device and communicate both ways.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Byteridge developed our Android application. The project was divided into three parts, the first one consisting of UX design. After that was signed off, we developed some of the features in the app, including appliance control and the ability to trigger multiple appliances in one go. There are five to six USB features that were part of the development. The second signoff was done recently and all the features were incorporated.

After that, we needed to make integrations between the app and our device. This part is currently ongoing. The app itself will be used for device control. We plan to build an iOS app in the future if we require it, but it doesn’t make commercial sense for us to have an iOS app right now.

What is the team composition?

Their business development manager was our main point of contact. The project execution was done by a designer and a principal developer.

How did you come to work with Byteridge?

We tried working with a few freelancers for the development of the Android part, given that we were clear in terms of requirements. It didn’t go as planned, so we started looking for a vendor and Byteridge was operating in the same tech park as us. I found out that they provided Android app development, so we contacted them. Vinayak (CEO, Byteridge) and their business development manager visited us and we found that they understood our requirements and could meet our timelines.

The total cost was around $60,000.

We started working with Byteridge in February 2017. The project was completed in May of that year.

The app is not yet on the Play Store, but it should be launched within one or two weeks after all the integrations have been done.

We had one main point of contact. Everything was streamlined and we didn’t miss out any communications. Timelines were also adhered to, except for during the second phase, which had a day or two delay due to some features being shifted.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I can't compare them with other developers, given that we haven’t used too many other providers. With respect to Byteridge, the project was handled smoothly, it was completed in time, and was delivered to our expectations. We have modified some features in the middle of the project, without a cost escalation, and the work was completed in time.

What challenge were you trying to address with Byteridge?

We launched our app in March 2016 with a vendor that we didn’t find satisfactory. However, we were in a rush to get a solution to market. After a few months, we were unhappy with the app and wanted new third-party experts to clean it up for Android and iOS.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They did an initial advisory review to critique the previous firm’s coding; we used their assessment to evaluate the team’s approach. They brainstormed coding improvements immediately, which convinced us to initiate the engagement.

The team’s frontend updates became a near-relaunch because they re-wrote the app after it was already in the market. That process only lasted a few months.

Concurrently, we had another related web project that involved backend improvements using JavaScript. However, that was not part of our main mobile app project.

They were engaged throughout the process, which they executed methodically with email and Excel. The team performed the necessary advisory role that I needed at a time when we were trying to build a top-of-the-line product in the Indian market.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’d use them again happily because they bailed me out at a time when I needed to be bailed out. The scope could have turned into an overwhelming project, but they executed it professionally and strategically.

There are new technologies that we placed into our roadmap for future development. Currently, they don’t have the capability to handle these cutting-edge tools. I’ll work with them again when they acquire those skills.

Foyr develops cutting-edge technologies around visualization in the real estate sector, including home and office interiors. I’m the founder.

What challenge were you trying to address with Byteridge?

We wanted to develop a mobile application. We have a lot of 3D visualization tech people who developed our core framework, but we didn’t have generic application developers for Android or web. We partnered with Byteridge to use their skills on the app development side.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Byteridge developed the rest of the applications after our team did the 3D side. The process began with them understanding our business requirements. In this case, we had a product idea in mind, which we explained to them. They presented a wireframe for the user experience [UX] and we iterated on that. They developed the screens and worked with us for the whole application.

The web application was a collaborative effort and the tech work was done by both teams together. Byteridge’s role was on the main stack which is MongoDB and AngularJS on the web, and Node.js on the backend. We also had a version that was developed on C# and .NET. They worked with us on the main stack as well as the Microsoft stack on the web side. On the mobile app, we primarily used Android and Java.

What is the team dynamic?

I initially spoke with the founder and CEO, Vinayak, and the CTO [chief technology officer], Ujwal. We also had a team leader, Arun [Senior Developer, Byteridge] and 2 or 3 other people. Arun was our main point of contact. Our business product managers worked with Byteridge directly.

How did you come to work with Byteridge?

I found them through friends. I’m from Microsoft and Vinayak also comes from Microsoft. At that time, India had a lot of companies who do service work, but we were looking for someone who could do cutting-edge product development. There are not too many companies that fit that. Byteridge had done a lot of work in the product development space which is what I found interesting. For example, they had done very good work for a taxi company. They’ve done some cool things which is what made us look at them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent 5,000 Rupees per month [$18,000 USD]. We have spent close to $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in January or February 2015 and continued for almost 2 years. We ended this relationship in the first quarter of 2017, and are just starting to work with them again now on another product.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We really loved the app. As a company, we’ve changed our business strategy, so the app is no longer available, but it was really great. We had achieved 10,000 app downloads in the first 1.5 months, which I consider good traction. It was a joint effort and while we had a proprietary technology that was helpful, they did a great job.

The team was wonderful. They were very forthcoming. We worked long hours and they didn’t have a problem with that. They always considered themselves as part of our team which was great.

How did Byteridge perform from a project management standpoint?

We had bits and pieces of different engagements. For half the project, the project management was done by us as the product owner so it was more like staff augmentation. For other parts, they did the project management. Overall, they were confident and forthcoming. Of course, there were challenges in the beginning, but the communication was very open. The top management was very flexible and it was a good experience overall.

They have very good experience in product development. Their code is really good quality. The top management is very approachable.

They have a relatively small team. If a project has a large scale, that could be a challenge for them.
