The requirement is to build a SaaS app for managing smart infrastructure in hospitality industry. The app is for property owners and staff of different property types to manage smart devices like smart locks in the property. The app helps the property staff with single pane of glass view of the property infrastructure enabling them with the visibility into the infrastructure and to proactively handle issues. 

The key deliverables of the project are below:

Build the core product features in an iterative model - the product managment team validating the product with the prospects, and the development team implementing the changes based on the feedback received.

Promotion of the MVP to production and deploy the product on AWS platform. The production version should be of enterprise grade quality.

First customer onboarding & support

Ensure the onboarding of the first customer on the product ensuring quicker time to joy with no business disruption. Actively support the customer with initial set of issues in the product.

Incremental update to the product

Expand the product features rapidly and upgrade production version with new features. The upgrades should be seamless and efficient with no business disruption to the existing customers.

Byteridge team did a great job in managing the project with industry standard tools and practices. The project was executed based on agile development methodology. Most of the deliveries are done on time and the team was quick enough to mitigate any risks to the delivery schedule.

Additional resources were always made available in short notice and senior resources supported the team with technical assistance as required keeping impact on deliveries minimal in unforeseen events.

Attitude of the team members, the sense of ownership & accountability they show is incredible. It truly shows the culture of the company to ensure that the customers are served well. Their focus on continuous improvement and openness to critical feedback is impressive. Any feedback provided on the process or people was always immediately taken up and followed till it is closed.

Another point to mention is the flexibility of resource allocation at short notice. The team is very dependable and hence as a customer my focus never got distracted by resource issues.

Byteridge supported us with flexible payment schedules to ensure our delivery milestones are not impacted. This is not typical in the industry, and for startups like ours, this is helpful. And such actions show the commitment of Byteridge to support the technology and services industry in every way possible in their limits.

I’m the CEO of Færdin, a travel guide startup that creates audio guides for travelers. We started in Norway, but our goal is to expand internationally.

We wanted to build a beautiful mobile application that was easy to use. We also wanted it to be accessible to blind and visually impaired people — we hired Byteridge to help us develop it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve done the first round of app development which is for our MVP of a native iOS version. The first phase was spent working on the UX design. Byteridge worked according to our design criteria and developed the app. They have included a feature that plays a guide whenever users come to a point of interest in their travels, or a dramatized guide for specific places. It informs them about services, activities, or places to eat whether they’re traveling by car, ship, bus, or train. The team has delivered all these as part of the MVP design, which they worked on for the span of three weeks.

We’re now developing the Android version with them. There are also another couple of software parts that we plan to develop soon.

What is the team composition?

The bulk of the workload is done by a very clever UX designer. We are also working with a project manager and a scrum master. 

For the implementation, we had a team of one backend developer, a junior frontend developer, as well as a senior frontend developer. We also worked with some of the tech leads of the company, which I had a lot of pleasure interacting with on different topics that came up where I wanted an in-depth discussion.

A member of our development team knew the owner of Byteridge. We wanted to work with a small company rather than a larger one since we’re a startup, so they were a good match for us.

We started working together in October 2020 and our work is still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve only tested the app with a fairly small group of people that I know well — it hasn’t been an open test yet. However, friends and acquaintances who have seen the app are impressed by it, and their feedback has been very good. 

This positive response also has led to starting a collaboration with one of the larger hotel chains in Norway. We’ll deliver an audio guide for some of their experiences like a canal boat trip. 

How did Byteridge perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira and have daily scrum meetings over Microsoft Teams. In addition, we use Adobe XP for the design process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re disciplined and flexible. They always show up and are willing to come with their management team and tech specialists when needed. It’s been great working with them on a personal level. When working with software developers, I always work very hands-on myself. They’re professional in how they do the development. I’ve also been extremely happy with the architecture and coding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

When creating an offer, I always ask for more details to understand the insights better. They deliver, but they could have done it in the first round instead of the second or third rounds. Nevertheless, this doesn’t pull down my overall view of the company and its people.

Get to know every person on the team. I have personally interviewed every single person that worked on the project. Understand their background, CV, and strengths on both the personal and professional level. If possible, engage closely with them daily.

The project was delivered on time and with the expected quality. We received great feedback from our client.

We set clear milestones in the beginning and Byteridge met every deadline. They provide weekly updates to go over plans for the following week and have proven themselves highly capable. They also supplied regular timesheets for my approval.

Byteridge delivers high value and their integrity is commendable. They bring transparency to the table with what they can and cannot do. And the best of all is the flexibility in working with them. The team and developers are directly approachable and they’re great at meeting deadlines.

The most common issue for an outsourced product development company is to find the right talent. There are times that the engineers required are not readily available since they are deployed on other projects. But overall we had a great experience with them.
