Please describe your company and your position there.

Insulwise Energy & Comfort Solutions is a building science based company that specializes in improving the energy efficiency, comfort, and interior air quality of homes. We do these things primarily by performing air sealing, insulation, and duct sealing measures on the homes that we work in. I am the CEO.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Build in Motion, and what were your goals?

We hired Build in Motion to build us customized sales software. The goals were to have an easily usable platform that would allow our sales staff to go into homes, create detailed sales quotes on the spot, show customers pictures from the software, and then have that software upload the contracts to the cloud.

We then needed for those contracts to be able to be pulled down from the cloud to our office admin team. Lastly, the software needed to automatically update any changes that were made to the contracts on both the admin and sales staff side.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I interviewed several software developers.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

They first created a user interface. From there they created all of the backend functions over the course of several months. Once we had the basic functionality down we then downloaded it to our various teams here, tested it out, and then ironed the few small bugs that we encountered. All in all it was a very well planned and organized process. Alan at Build in Motion is very easy to work with.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

Essentially just one, Alan. I'm sure there were other people involved with the project, but Alan was the main one. He is one of the owners at Build in Motion.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

As soon as our sales staff had the software on their computers the time that it took them to create customized, highly detailed contracts for our customers dropped dramatically. This allowed them to spend more time building the relationship with the customers, as opposed to creating the contracts by hand.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

We communicated mostly through emails and sometimes by phone. The project took a bit longer than I'd expected, but this was created during 2020 and Build in Motion had a lot of unexpected issues pop up with existing customers due to Covid. It was a very easy back and forth in terms of the functionality that we wanted, changes that we requested, and their ability to process those changes.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

How easy they were to work with. They were excellent at taking your requests and building out intuitive processes and solutions. They were very bright people with exceptional communication skills all around.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No, Build in Motion is top notch.

I'm the owner and educational strategist for Action Driven Education.

For what projects/services did your company hire Build in Motion, and what were your goals?

ADE hired Build in Motion to develop Accomods, our web app designed to empower general and special education teachers with the ability to select and implement appropriate supports for children with special needs.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Build In Motion was willing to take the time to truly understand my business as well as the vision we had for our project. Alan was then able to use laymen's terms to walk me through the process from conception through each stage of production. I also appreciated that we started with an interactive mockup of the app that showed me exactly how it would look and work!

We started with a mockup of the project that help to make the vision real while also permitting simple revisions that saved time in the end. Build In Motion then began working on the backend of the system that holds the data and the linkages necessary to make the frontend work.

We wanted a super user-friendly frontend for our customers/users and Alan more than exceeded our expectations. The user interface is clean, crisp, and very user-friendly.

The ongoing portion of our work is critical as we continue to improve and evolve. Build In Motion is able to make this happen without any loss of service for our customers and without changing the way things work!

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We worked primarily with Alan on development and Caryn as our project manager.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Build In Motion hit the nail on the head with the deliverables. We did experience some lag in production but since we started our work right when COVID hit I can't say if this was normal or just a pandemic hiccup that we experienced.

Midway through the project, we started using tools that helped to keep things moving forward (I don't know what they are called). Alan shared an edit board that showed each step of the process. I was able to add notes and insight that guided the project.

I was probably a little more 'hands-on' than most so this helped to satisfy my need to be involved.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was and am most impressed with Alan's ability to develop a very nice interface for our customers. To this day the most common comment from our users is how easy Accomods is to use! Alan saw this importance from the beginning and over-delivered on even our wildest dreams in this area.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

As I mentioned, we experienced some production bumps where things weren't going as quickly as I had hoped (who wouldn't be excited to see their dream become a reality) but the bumps happened when COVID hit so I know the Build In Motion team was suddenly very busy making changes for all of their customers to support them through their pivots so I understood.
